@@_CrimsonBladewhen i found out who the final boss was i was so pissed it wasn’t Godwyn. However, the more I think about it it 1.) would not make sense and kind of make the whole night of the black knives thing pointless and 2.) the final boss we did get is so so badass and contextualizes the battle of Aeonia which was always one of my favorite parts of the lore.

@@maiawhz6541 I was honestly expecting Miquella to be trying to revive godwyn with an eclipse, similar to castle sol. it would also make sense why we had to kill radahn because it would put the stars back in motion allowing for an eclipse to happen. I honestly thought it would be a very similar battle to what we got, just miquella on the back of Godwyn instead of Radahn.

@@ironiccaesar178 The erdtree knight theme is, oddly enough, the common theme of all Erdtree servants and defenders. The Death Knights, as we can learn, are Godwyn's personal guards. That is, they are the same Erdtree warriors

Walks a death knights lair and immediately tries to summon. Death Knight opens with an array of lightning attacks then flashsteps into my face and pastes me against the fog wall. Well, they were aptly named.

They should have had a special boss that was the strongest Death Knight riding the Strongest Deathrite Bird, Nameless King style. (basically 1st phase is normal Deathrite Bird with Death Knight throwing lightning and occasionally hitting down with Longhaft Axe) 2nd phase is normal Death Knight fight. (full healthbars each phase)

@@frozen_potato6957 It's so funny when people complained about base game bosses reappearing in the DLC, too. There are four tree spirits in it for example, but they're much less tanky than the late base game ones and they're pretty spaced out.

At first, when I saw the moveset of this boss, I thought Miyazaki was crazy, then I remembered that Rellana exists. I finally beat the Death Knight on the 9th try using Dryleaf's Art, I've never made poise breaks so easily. For now, the Death Knight is my favorite boss along with the Divine Beast

These guys are SO MUCH FUN to fight. The theme makes you feel like you're fighting something mythical yet sinister, something dark hiding in the shadows as it looks back at you with a bony smile ready to literally suck the life out of you.

I wish Godwyn could have been the final boss, in the base game Miquella was trying to revive his soul and the DLC also coincidentally happens to have him revive another demigod... except the one he revives never had anything implying a connection with Miquella ever before.

I do wish Godwyn did get some more love, and him being the final boss instead of Radahn would’ve been cooler. I know his soul is dead, but Miquella showed effort to try and miracle-work his way to reviving him in some capacity. I think it would be cool for Godwyn to come back into existence by Miquella essentially Frankensteining Mohg’s Body, Radahns Soul, and The Mending Rune of the Death Prince together to recreate him. Also, from a thematic standpoint, it would’ve been a lot more interesting. I envision Resurrected Godwyn not being really perfect. Appearing to still be afflicted with death blight in some capacity, giving him a darker, more threatening appearance. Combine that with Miquella being a very bright and divine-looking figure, and the visual character dynamic would be spectacular. As for lore and the Battle of Aeonian, you could rephrase it as Miquella wanting Radahn and only Radahn since he personally see’s him as the perfect body and soul to stitch Godwyn back together with, given his strength and devotion.

I think it may simply be the case that we had misunderstood which Demigod Miquella was fixated upon this whole time... still, if the defiling death that others had suffered led to them landing up in the shadow realm, it would make sense for Godwyn's murdered soul to be there... his influence certainly is, but we still see no sign of his consciousness, could Destined Death have truly erased it utterly?

No one can tell me that the DLC takes place in the land of the dead, and a "Godwyn the Golden, First of the Dead" final boss wasn't scrapped for the sake of what we got

@@MoreLoreThenThereSeems It's a world with magic trees and divine space monsters, if Fromsoft can come up with a way to randomly revive Radahn without retconning anything by inventing some random rite, it's not too much of a stretch for them to do the same with Godwyn given there were already attempts to revive him in the base game whether it's Fia trying to bring about an age of Duskborn or Miquella using the eclipse. Miquella also had more to do with Godwyn in the base game, as there are statues of him at the Haligtree and the entire mission at Castle Sol seems to be Miquella's design. It would also bring Godwyn's parallels to Baldur from Norse mythology full circle, since Baldur was resurrected after all the fighting was over. Godwyn's also the only demigod mentioned that we didn't meet in the basegame besides Miquella, and usually Fromsoft saves those sort of characters for DLC content (Artoias in DS1, Ludwig in BB), this doesn't always happen (Tomoe in Sekiro), but it still has some precedent. I can understand the change in direction Fromsoft took, I'm not saying it's bad or anything, it just looks like there are a lot of indicators that Radahn might not have always been the first choice for the DLC's final boss given the prevelence of death related themes in the Land of Shadow. There are interesting implications of Miquella choosing Radahn to revive as a consort over Godwyn that I won't get into, like whether the location of the Mohgwyn Palace under Caelid is a coincidence or Miquella used all the blood that pooled down from that battle to empower himself (see Lord of Bloods Exultation), so it's not like this makes the lore boring, it just seems like a strange plot twist given the context of the DLC

@@notjack2491 All I will say is that if Godwyn somehow could come back to being alive then MARIKA would have already done it. It wouldn't make sense for MARIKA to destroy the Elden Ring (See Rogier's Dialogues) because of losing another one of her family without trying to bring him back, or are you trying to tell that Miquella is just that better in everything he does that he can Revive people even when GOD couldn't. It even can be explained lorewise, Miquella tried to revive Godwyn to be his consort as you said via Eclipse at Castle Sol etc. but because he couldn't because his Souls is already dead and couldn't go to the Lands of Shadow, he instead chose Radahn even though he was not so willing because we see him clashing swords with Malenia (and many more instances that indicate it). Everything actually makes sense when you try to look at it in broader perspective. But yes I too would like to see Godwyn.

@@HatakeKakashi603 I'm not saying Miquella would of been successful or am I dismissing how difficult the ressurection would be, I'm saying Godwyn seemed like a more natural fit for the DLC than Radahn, and that I wouldn't be surprised if Radahn wasn't the original final boss at some point in early development for the expansion. That's it. Paired with the similarities to Baldur, who was killed before Ragnarok started, and revived after it ended, plus the Haligtree statues, it just seemed like a natural extension of Godwyn's story. He will technically be revived in the Duskborn ending, but still. Only thing Miquella ever really did successfully was slow down Malenia's rot a bit, charm his weird pedo brother, and make incantations for his dad-mom. The Haligtree failed to mature properly, his forces were repelled in Caelid, Malenia became a rot goddess despite everything, the eclipse never happened, none of his plans factor for the much more competent empyrean Ranni, the list goes on. He's not a mastermind, there's just no indication in the base game that he had eyes for Radahn. Their only connection is Malenia fighting Radahn to a standstill in Caelid without any context, meanwhile there are monuments made in the likeness of Godwyn at the Haligtree looking over the empyrean twins and he was very much loved by everyone, that's a stark contrast from a studio that prides itself on subtle details. I kinda take that as an indication that Fromsoft was leaning in the Godwyn direction initially, and for their own reasons after the game launched, decided to adopt a different approach and bring Radahn back instead. Which is fine, the lore is still interesting and it doesn't ruin the game or anything like that, it's just an objective observation.

@@notjack2491 There are number of things you are missing. In the duskborn ending it doesn't say he is reborn at least I don't remember it. Then there is Malenia and her whispering to Radahn in cinematics and lastly this part of a story could be written by George R.R. Martin as he did all the history and mythos for this game. Yes they could've change it themselves but who knows honestly. To me it also seems like Miquella wanted Godwyn but that b*tch Ranni destroyed not only Lands Between but also Miquella's plan by destroying Godwyn's soul. Also how dare you say Mohg is pedo when he was clearly enchanted by Miquella to kidnap him. My lord didn't do anything wrong and didn't deserve such a fate.

I was having so much fun fighting this boss untill I noiced that the grab attack completely heals the bastard.. Triggerd my Malenia PTSD hard so I decided to ironically Blasphemous Blade it to death with a summon cause Im not spending possible hours trying to dodge one single attack that will one shot me unless at full HP fuck that not going through that pain again lol

End bosses of catacombs... These dudes deserved better, as did their master. I know that two years may seem like a lot to us that are waiting for the product, but can be quite crunchy and little to those working with the deadlines (specially because marketing and so forth are accounted in the deadlines). I wonder though, if there were more time, if other storylines with these dudes taking more proeminence would be a thing.

These guys feel way too developed for side dungeons. I feel like they were gonna be way more important at some point. They have a full proper boss moveset and even a proper two phase song like most major bosses have. I’m convinced Godwyn got cut from this DLC at some point
