It legit frustrates me that more people don’t dump for the dub and get the reactors to react to that instead of the sub. Rarely do I say this about anime but the dub is superior, it has a great cast and Light and Ls VAs are standouts.
@x0x0skiller2 Same bro. People have grown to be too biased towards subs and just vote for sub mindlessly. Death note is literally one of the few instances where the dub is legitimately the better version but reacts still watch the sub cuz of mindless bots who vote for that version instead. It's very annoying.
@novisla2922 That's not a good question since no matter what type of justification I give there will always be someone who would disagree and provide a completely subjective response as to why the dub is actually not better since when it comes to voice acting it is extremely hard to put into works why a dub like in this case is better than its sub counter part. It's not easy to describe and no matter what description is provided there will always be a subjective counterpoint. To be clear tho, I have no issue with people liking the sub over the dub. My problem is with people that just automatically say the sub is better across the board for every single anime regardless of the dub's quality.
He had so much potential and promise, and he ended up only making it to his mood twenties. Could have been a great police chief like his dad, a championship winning tennis player, even the new L, and instead he's dead.
And what would have stopped him from forcing everyone to bow to him, literally worship him multiple times a day, or to stop him from forcing world leaders to use nuclear weapons in order to continue his cleansing?
I was so happy with this ending!! Seeing Light being desperate and being caught was so satisfying! I loved watching you guys enjoy this show! Also, Matsuda being the one to shoot Light was so great
I hate seeing Light lose. He stopped wars and dropped the crime rate to 70% percent. The only reason why Light started killing fbi agents and tried to kill L was because they were trying to catch him they should have left him alone.
I prefer the manga ending. It's basically the same, but with the difference that Light doesn't run away. While he's calling out for all the people who could help him, he finally comes to Ryuk. He asks for Ryuk to save him, and it seems that he agrees. When he pulls out his Death Note, people start to freak, except for Near, and try to stop him. Light brags that they can't stop Ryuk and they will all die and then when Ryuk tells him that the only person that will die will be Light. Realizing that he's going to die, Light spends his last moments trying to deny his inevitable death. I prefer that version as it truly makes Light pathetic in his end. He loses completely. The anime gives him a bit more dignity. Both are good, but I prefer the manga ending.
A friend of mine thought Light's breakdown was out of character but I didn't think so. He'd had serious freakouts earlier in the series like when L first approached him personally.
Oh, yeah. it was definitely been shown at other times in the anime that Light is very proud and childish to the point that he can't bear and contain his despair + anger when he loses at something. He also can't help but rub his victory on people faces. He's the kind of guy who NEEDS to have one last laugh in his enemies' faces, he wants to have the satisfaction of having his victory recognized. Ironically this was also something that turned against him in the end (since that "Near, I won" was a confession that eliminated any small chance of Light's team still believing his lies after he was exposed) On top of all this, one of the main points of this ending is to tear Light away from the fantasy he created of being a god. As much as Light hates to admit it the reality is that he is not a god, he is human like everyone else (one who made terrible choices in his life and is now afraid of dying or having to face the consequences of his crimes in jail).
The thing with the second part is that they rushed it and nobody knows why. In the manga, the second part is even longer than the first part and just as good and well detailed so we could understand Near's actions and investigation. Also there's a one shot manga from the same author where Ryuk comes back again to the human world and let another human to use his Death Note. The one shot is pretty good and short, try to give it a shot!
This is correct except the 2nd half was 50 chapters whereas the 1st was 58 chapters. They're way closer length-wise than in the anime, but L's part was still longer.
@@jessetheanimenerd3304did that not happen in the manga? I think that arc is worth it just for the episode where the businessman gets caught. And Light gets his memories back

It’s interesting because the rules of the notebook don’t apply to the Shinigami…if you noticed whenever THEY write a name the person dies instantly, no waiting 40 seconds. And they don’t necessarily need to see human faces since tons of Shinigami exist within their own realm and can write names from there.
I loved Light/Kira as the protag but I agree that he was a menace and had to go lol. I am glad Matsuda stepped up at the end, too. This was a wild show and I rank it as one of my top 10 of all time. Great reaction!
Light died in the middle of the stairs cool symbolism that DeathNote user can neither goes to heaven nor hell and yes, Japan police equipped with small caliber pistol, that's why Light didn't die right away after being shot multiple times
this rule is the biggest troll in the story, since nobody goes to heaven or hell, all go to MU (nothingness), cause there is no hell or heaven in the deathnote universe
@@Rafaela_S. The Shinigami mentioned that only the human notebook users are stuck in MU world. Indicating there is the existence of heaven, hell and MU(nothingness). I wonder if the MU world is actually the Shinigami realm itself.
@@CelestialTrailblazerIn the Middle of the Episode there are 2 rules: "All humans will, without exception, eventually die." and "After they die, the place they go is MU (nothingness)" these rules stand togather meaning everyone dies and than goes to MU, therefore nobody goes to heaven or hell, therefore we can asume heaven or hell do not exist.
@@Rafaela_S. You are taking those rules out of context. Re-watch the episode where Light first meets Ryuk. He explains it and you'll get the context. The biggest caveat of using the notebook by humans is that they go to neither heaven or hell for eternity. Light Yagami was informed of this when he first met Ryuk. Ryuk informed Light of this rule specifically to warn him and to let him know the end consequences of humans using the notebook. In other words, if the said human did not use the notebook, then his fate or final destination would be either heaven or hell. So, in the context of Light using the notebook, he'll end up in this place called MU(Nothingness). Which is neither haven or hell.
@@CelestialTrailblazer These rules are pretty clear in that they do not just apply to death note users, but to every human. All Humans go to MU. Human Deathnote users are Human. Therefore Human deathnote users go to MU. So you can say there is a rule that states "Death note user can't go to hell or heaven" It's the same as if a mall has a rule that does not allow pets inside the mall and than there is a store inside the mall with a rule that does not allow dogs inside. The rule for the dogs is there, but even if it wouldn't change something, since dogs are pets and pets aren't allowed anyways. And the rule does not imply in context of the whole picture that other animals are allowed, just cause dogs are specifically mentioned, since the bigger rule outrules the smaller. So the deathnote users can't go to hell or heaven rule, does not imply that heaven or hell exist in the context of the whole picture, since the bigger rule (all humans go to MU) outrules the smaller. Or with smoking, if there is a rule for a whole trainstation that you are not allowed to smoke, the rule of a little store in the station that states "no smoking in this store" does not imply that you are allowed so smoke directly outside of the store (still in the station).
Loved watching this again with you guys! Also wasn’t feeling the second half as much but it’s not as rushed and more fleshed out in the manga which made it more enjoyable
I think that Light not informing Mikami that he had a piece of the Death Note (consequently leading Mikami to act when he thought Light couldn't) + being so sure that Mikami would continue with his obsessive routine regardless of any situation is where Light mess up at this ending that ultimately lead to his downfall (actually, if we consider the entire anime, the moment where Light condemned himself was in episode 2 when he killed that fake L, exposing his location and that he somehow could kill people without needing to be in the same place as them). And of course his arrogance and the way he underestimated Near and Mello + how he underestimated the possibility that something could get out of his control, helped even more in his downfall.
This would have been better if there's an episode 38 where criminals are coming back, some people are missing kira, and it's up to the viewers to answer whether Light is justified for killing criminals (well, he's not). I'm pretty sure they had it in the manga.
I thought it was weird that someone managed to write Ryuk's name in the notebook even though Ryuk said the closest anyone has gotten to writing his name was by 2 letters
In some ways, this ending was satisfying. In other ways, not so much. I feel like every move in this series has been backed up by logic. Every plan, every series of events had some form of logic behind it. But, this final plan from Near wasn't won by outsmarting anyone. Or some grand 5D chess move. It was luck. Coincidence. The idea that the ONE time Mikami directly disobeyed Light just so happened to be right before the huge climactic battle? I dunno. The fact that Light would've won if not for this one slip up is wild. Onto the positives though. I actually really liked Light as a Protagonist. He's just so unique in how far he's willing to go for his goals. He's willing to do dark things for his ambition without regret. But we also see moments where Light expresses his humanity. Like when he lost his memories for episodes 17-23. Or when he put aside the mission(symbolized by him dropping the pen) when his father died. The Light that cared for others was lost piece by piece until only Kira remained. In both a metaphorical and physical way, Light was a victim to the Death Note as well. And in his final moments, he saw who he was before all of this. Before he picked up the notebook. Millions of people were impacted by Kira, but he went out as Light Yagami. The manga goes into more detail after Light's parting and shows that Kira still has followers in the world even a year later. But I like that the anime essentially ends the story with Light. And the final shot is of the moon. How fitting.
I disagree with your first paragraph, because I think you're looking at things from the wrong angle, and that's the other way around : *if* Mikami hadn't disobeyed, then Near *wouldn't* have set up the showdown the way he did there. He'd have instead waited for (and/or helped create) one such future mistake. In fact, you'll notice that Near only moves when it's completely safe to do so - compared with Mello's reckless gambits, or L's measured risks (such as his "by the way I'm L" at university).
Mikami only disobeyed Light near the end as a direct result from Mello's actions, it wasn't luck. Mikami wouldn't have even had to do that if Light told him that he was capable of killing in emergency scenarios.
"It was sad, but I relished it". Viewers want Light to lose and enjoy the process of him losing, not the game ending. It's the same reason why Light seems almost depressed after L dies even though he enjoyed beating him. The game is over now.
I find both endings ( anime+ manga) satisfying. That final scene where Ryuk is writing Light's name on the notebook made me kinda sad. "I guess it's back to eternal boredom". What are you two going to react to after Death Note!?
Sooooo Yeah.... Light lost Only because Mikami screwed Up big time (the only person he trusted willingly), and Near was inferior to L but Mello's contributions to the case were Super important... As a Kira supporter, Ur not meant to emphatize/sympathize with Light's methods.... But, you can support his ideals for what he perceives a New/Better world can be, AND accept that losses/sacrifices are necessary to accomplish that goal, While being amussed with his Genuis intellect and mainly his confrontations with L (still sad to see him gone every time, as well as Chief)... This is why, although Light Yagami was right, the moment he started killing those against him and perceived himself as a god (Kira) ... he was wrong Light explained it clearly in Ep2 anyways, he is just willing to commit to the idea because he has the Tool and Will to accomplish the vision, and at the end of the day He Got Results done (70% reduced crime rate globally), meantime most people are just glad about what happens while they get to put on an altruistic face... And like it or not... Light is an Amazing character that got you and everyone engaged in the story... But remember, every time U/anybody wish a person died or are indifferent towards someone's death because they did/were someone U disliked (kinda like ... Light) ... U were actually a Kira supporter, even if just for a moment... PS: Hopefully you consider reading the Minoru manga sequel (though short, a worthy sequel in my opinion, specially as a social experiment). Happy 2023 and looking forward to your next series. the first episode of Light as Kira paint it as a good thing "Kill criminals." His first one was a nutted who had children hostage at gunpoint. And the police were too scared and powerless to help. Kira saved those kids. Then, in the street a biker gang are going to force themselves upon a young woman. No police in sight and, with Japanese law, even knowing the mans name he'd get off with it. Japan favour the men over women in ALL things. If she went to the police, the cops would then ask him and the gang would all deny it. And the case would be swept away. Kira saved the woman and killed the attempted abuser. The moment he killed Lind L Taylor and was known, Light should of stopped for a month. Just go silent on it and track the investigation on his Dad's PC. Or start using suicide. The ICPO would be confused. L would then return and again, go radio silent. Keep their photos and names in the hidden compartment of the draw or set them up to die a month after L first appeared. Then when the TV announcement about the 1,500 fake agents was announced, Light just wouldnt even need to react. Just do his study, maybe have some music on and wouldnt need to kill the clerk. He could even watch the news and set them up to die weeks later with the piece in his wallet as he was doing in the show. Heck, go one further. When his room got bugged and he knew someone had been in there, have him ask the mother "did you or dad go in my room?" When she says no, go back to his room and look at the walls all curious and actually "look" for them and find one. Then he could confront his dad, feign anger over being accused which would get L's attention. "Would Kira be angry at his own father? No... the Kira I know would use them to his advantage. Whats your angle here Light Yagami?" After L died, you could tell the manga writer didnt want to do anymore. It was always L vs Kira. The whole Near and Mellow stuff was rubbish, the whole multiple fake Kira's, Misa being domesticated into a bimbo housewife, it was just so...uninspired. And they turned Light from "I'll kill a cop if he is investigating me" into "I'll sacrifice my father, i'll kill everyone i know, i'll beg a literal God of Death to kill them all"
I do feel sad for Light, but that’s karma for killing my boy L. When I find myself feeling sad for light I think of how he took joy in killing people, and how he smiled when L died, Light kind of had it coming :/
Don't know why but when light lost I felt something really sad Idk why I really got attached to light and i can't even express how i felt at last when light lost I know light was wrong but I really got attached to him till the ending which makes me sad everytime I remember this 😢😢
I know there were some people unhappy with the ending, but I think Light got exactly what he deserved. He became more and more confident to the point where he started to think himself untouchable. Light full of bullet holes and crying on the ground was so satisfying considering all the people he killed. I do prefer the manga ending however. Where he begs Ryuk to write the names down, Ryuk agrees, only to write down Light's name instead.
It just shows how pointless everything Light did was. So many deaths for "peace" that didnt last a full year after his death. So it would have ended either way.
@@saltyk9869 Agreed! Code Geass and Deathnote are similar in terms of the match of wits concept. Code Geass Anime English dub should be the next reaction series after completing Deathnote on this channel.
Have to say just one last time. Sincerely hoping you'll follow up with Death Parade. It's only 12 episodes and could probably be posted in double features.
His plan was far from perfect near could have won if he took the time to think of the possibility of a second notebook or maybe a fake notebook or even that mikami would have pieces of paper hidden away literally multiple scenarios he could have lost and he just wasn’t capable of thinking of them
whole show runied cause of near why did they even put a character that smart back into the show they knew light was gonna get caught like they couldve had atleast 2 seasons more of death note he just got caught way faster than he was supposed to the only reason i dont like death note that much it was such a good show seeing two smart guys competing when i saw L die I just Knew Light Was Gonna Die By that trader ryuk after everything made me cry my eyes out light was littrely one of the best villians in all of anime he was the protagonist and was supposed to win but it was his fate for him to die CAUSE OF NEARR to touch the death note blud had to let him get his hands on that death note ryuk knows he will never find someone like light every again so i know he was sad.
