I love a bit of nautical horror. Death Ship, Ghost Ship, Virus and my personal favorite... Deep Rising. Even when the movie is ultra cheesy, the isolation and hopelessness of being stuck on a creepy ship in the middle of the ocean is very unsettling.

Good point. It's the same kind of isolation that makes space horror excel, even when the movies aren't that great.

no Ghost Ship was not a remake of any movie, some think it was a "remake" of the 1952 movie of the same name but it's not, and it's not related to Death Ship either,. they don't even have the same story.

I have never seen Death Ship the whole way through, but it has the distinction of being the first ever horror scene that terrified me when I was 6. My parents were changing channels and we came upon the scene with the woman in the shower and the blood coming down and the floor opening up. Freaked me out. The other scene to do the same thing was from The Unseen with Barbara Bach when the woman gets pulled down into the basement.

I first saw this on one of the pay channels way back in the 80s. I loved it and tried to catch it any time it was on. Back then the cable companies used to give you a guide that listed the movie schedules for the entire month, so I could plan out when to watch them. In the late 90s, a local channel was playing various movies late at night on the weekends and they showed this a few times. One of those times, they screwed up and aired it uncut. It still had commercial breaks, but they left in the swearing and nudity. I guess they probably got some complaints about it because they never did that again. :)

You won't believe this, but that scene with Mrs Morgan's death was something I saw on TV when I was a kid in the 80s. I saw them watching the film (I looked up the scene just now) and then one of the little girl turns around and screams. I saw it up to the sea burial and didn't see it before or after that scene. This memory haunted me and I have been looking for what movie this came from and why she turned into a zombie (or so I remembered it like this). So nice to see that this is the movie. Now I only got to find one more movie, of a murderous dog (german shepherd?) that psychotically killed guerilla fighters in a jungle. Then I can rest.

4:24 - Rust itself does not cause tetanus, and while it does have the ability to harbour anaerobic bacteria, tetanus infection normally requires a puncture wound to deliver/introduce endospores into a suitable environment for growth. This could be via a rusty nail, or a not-rusty nail, or a tooth, or a even a thorn (in the unlikely event that the virus survive son this floating ship at all). This barefoot girl is taking a risk of skin abrasion and injury, definitely, and atopic dermatitis, maybe, but not from the rust itself: iron oxide is not known as a skin irritant, and is seen as being so widely benign that it is commonly used as a colouring additive in make-up and other skin products.

It was an old freighter the movie crew found docked in Louisiana. It wasn't seaworthy but they found a captain willing to pilot it to get footage until it broke down only after a few hours which is why they try faking movement by moving cameras past it sitting still in the Gulf of Mexico The ship was originally named The Maurice K and scrapped after filming. Great video, Cecil; as always. If I may: do you consider "Gattaca" a "Good Bad Flick"? I ask because I watched it recently on HDNet, and I was disappointed to learn that it was a box office dud. I find this perplexing considering that this film is a classic with a now-loyal cult following. "Gattaca" had a great cast, a beautiful score, stellar cinematography and art design, and a razor-sharp script penned by a first-time director who did an exemplary job at his first movie.
