I remember seeing the trailer for this as a kid and not being allowed to see the movie. I soon forgot about it and just now found the trailer again at 31 years old. I think I'm going to finally watch it. I mean, I waited almost 2 decades, I don't think my parents will mind lmao.

I don't see why critics hate this movie. It's such a funny movie, especially since it has the comedic talents of Edward Norton, Danny DeVito and the late, never to be replaced Robin Williams.

Seriously, its *wonderful* for his image. You watch this movie and American History X back to back, and you get an amazing view of the range of Norton's acting ability.

When I was a teenager we had all the names of the characters as our gamertags on Xbox live. Only a few people got the joke. Williams is just freaking amazing. Such a cult classic.

I remember seeing this movie on VHS and missing it in theaters. I always saw billboard ads for it around the city but never really knew what it was, but I think the reason this film did so terribly is because it was poorly marketed.

I thought this was absolutely hysterical in middle school....still one of my all time favorites, 25+ years!! "My step dad's not mean, he's just adjusting..."😂😂😂

Danny DeVito is a fucking genius.

Man, two of my favorite actors (Edward Norton (The Incredible Hulk, Fight Club, Birdman, etc) and Robin Williams (Robots, Jumanji, Being Human, etc)) in a movie about two children's show actors in the most craziest escapade of their lives! In my opinion, I think "Death To Smoochy" was the best + awesome black comedy movie that I have ever seen in my life! 🤘😎🤟😁😉👍

They should have let Robin Williams really push the envelope to make this an even darker comedy but they held him back for some reason. Perhaps not to overshadow Edward Norton.

"I'm Rainbow Fucking Randolph" LMAO I just saw this the other night, and boy what a bizarre black comedy about show business. All the actors are casted and directed superbly by Danny DeVito. Robin Williams steals the show with his manic, crazed personality you just can't take your eyes off him. I highly Recommend, Thumbs Up :)

While movies like this aren’t my thing, Rainbow Randolph singing his theme and later yelling, “WASSUP!” has been living rent-free in my head ever since 2001. I also love how horrified Smoochy looks when he gets the gun. X-D

The script & the costume are two different things, which I mention bc you seem to be completely unaware of that! This clip doesn't do the movie justice. When I first saw the film, I liked it, felt the vitriol against this film was unfair. After a re-watch, it has only strengthened my intial response. Not as dark as The King Of Comedy, (a movie more grounded in reality), which also bombed at the Box Office and only recently has been re-evaluated. Smoochy is STILL very dark, just with a more colorful visual style. Smoochy did not fail because it is a bad movie. It is not. The performances are strong, the script often witty, and the direction by Danny Devito is stylish. No. The reason Smoochy failed is two fold: dark satires are a hard sell (and were especially a hard sell when the movie was released) AND most movie goers were not prepared to see Robin Williams stretch to play a vile, crude, character. Later with the double whammy of One Hour Photo and Insomnia, critics would grudgingly admit Williams was more than a comic. Edward Norton plays the good guy with a heart of gold convincingly. (ironic, given the reports of his real life on set behavior) A fine cast, including; Catherine Keener, John Stewart, (though that haircut was atrocious), and Devito, play various allies and villains. Even watching the second time, it made me laugh more than a few times. Visually, it looks great.

Interesting! They made robin look like the main character and he really isn’t. I’d say he’s probably second to Ed Norton. Regardless, this movie is so so so underrated. I feel like it came out in the wrong time period

Robin Williams best movie IMO. This movie wouldn't have been made in today's day and age though, due to political correctness. You need a dark sense of humor to understand it.
