Debbie, I watch your youtube videos regularly. You’re very inspiring, and a great instructor. But this video of your gold medal GS runs was breathtaking! Wow, Debbie! Just amazing.
LOVE the "skating" exiting nearly EVERY gate. That just shows how well Deb understood what she needed to do to add speed in those days. I also used to race local high school/college races on 198cm Rossi S7s so I DO remember those days. I was fortunate enough to have had Debbie as my coach t a Steamboat Race Camp after getting back into competitive racing in 2015 and she was probably one of the reasons I won my NASTAR National Championship division that year and came in 13th Overall in the "Race of Champions". Wow!!!! It always amazes me how you guys were able to ski on long skinny skis! And it always blows my mind that you were allowed to race without helmets! I love watching your races.
It took a LOT of muscle to force them to turn. If I tried today to ski on my old racing skis ( DynamicVR17's) at my age- 69 - I'd probably make one run and be totally fried!
@@mailitedd185 One thing about the old skis - at least the good ones - is that you HAD to learn the basics and get them correct on a massive variety of conditions you would ski on. Having the old-ski techniques down pat, the transition to the techniques the new skis want was a piece of cake. The problem I see with too many instructors today is that they want to get you into carving before you learn and master all of the turn types you will need to get you out of trouble when you simply cannot carve. LOL - Most in that day didn't even bother with beanies. I think I skied in a headband left over from Summer tennis as long hair was in fashion in those days. LOL
@@jordsmords easier to get used to the feel of a helmet than it is relearning how to speak/move. Give your brain as good a chance of surviving a crash as possible.
