I have followed Bonds VERY closely from 1990 until his retirement. Yes he was EXTREMELY arrogant/cocky. He was not publicly friendly. He was not kind to all media. Yet, I have never seen such talent, EVER. To me, Barry Bonds was the greatest player that I had ever seen since. He was a HOF player if he would have retired in 94. It is also inaccurate that he "blew up" in 99-00. Since I followed him up close I saw his physical progression. Year after year he was getting bigger. I really noticed it between 93-96 and already looked really menacing. Did his upper body get bigger in 99-00? yes but it was not a 1988 Bonds to a 1999 Bonds. There was a natural progression. If he used substances that made him grow or become stronger I do not know but, when Bonds hit HR's against Gagne, Randy Johnson, and whoever was placed infront of him, no one can say with a straight face that he hit those thanks to steroids. The fact that he is not in the HOF is simply the writers revenge. It has nothing to do with his talent. It is hatred and hypocrisy.

@joan.oviedo7ace3
@joan.oviedo7ace3 Год назад
@@mikechartowich1482 On the contrary, it shows that his physical growth was slow. It is completely natural for players in ANY sport to build muscle. Let me put it even simpler, compare the rookie card or ANY player (even a pitcher) football, basketball, baseball with a card/picture near their retirement and you will clearly see that they are all significantly bigger and stronger. to name a few recent inductees check Bagwell, Piazza, and Biggio. Bonds was not just awesome hitting, he was ridiculous running and on defense. He was a freak and in the era that (as far as it is known) most players were using something it is hypocritical to try to damage his legacy.

Why? Yes without steroids bonds is still a hall of fame player. The issue I have is he isn't a top 5 player without the steroids. Binds never once hit more then 49 hr without steroids. Then when he is 37 he hits 73 out of nowhere. Sorry but steroids made way to much of an impact on his power numbers not to penalize him. Like.i said he was good.enougj to be in the HOf without steroids but taking them took.him to new lengths and therefore clouds out the player he was and would've been without them. One key factor in the HOF is intergraty and bonds lost all he had
@scott783
@scott783 Год назад
Bonds is a 1st ballot hall of famer. Even if the steroids added an extra 100 home runs to his total, take them away and he’s still at 662. And what everyone forgets , he was hitting against pitchers who were also on steroids and PED’s and growth hormone. Put an asterisk next to the guys who played between 1988-2007, call it the steroid era, and put these guys in the hall of fame that deserve to be there. And stop talking about this nonsense

Okay so then where do we draw the line? If you want these guys in the HOF then you also want PEDs legalized otherwise you would object to them being in the Hall. So again, if we are allowing cheating now, where do we draw the line? Think about that guys. You’re opening Pandora’s box. That’s probably why baseball hasn’t done it yet because if they let them in the HOF they are indirectly saying PED use is okay you’ll still get in. So then what about all the records that were set naturally? Will there be asterisks next to the PED records? And what about young kids that want to play? Is the message we want is use steroids or you have zero chance? What a mess.

Bonds should be in. Period. If "everyone" was using is some fashion, was it really an advantage? Second, I always suspected that the first players to get on steroids during that era were the pitchers. Remember, before the HR kings there were the freak strikeout, high-heat pitchers like Rob Dibble. I always suspected him of being on something before any other player. To the point of Pudge losing 40 pounds... This is not as far-fetched as this dude makes it out to be. I did it myself. In 2004, when I was 36 years old, I went from nearly 240 pounds to about 182 in about 5 and a half months by eating nothing but soups and salads, cutting out alcohol and sodas, and walking about 4 miles every day. So for an athlete like Pudge to claim he did the same is not as stretch. You can suspect he was on the juice and probably be right, but that doesn't mean that his story isn't real either. In my case, in case you are wondering if I got weaker by the "rapid" weight loss, the answer is no. I was able to walk those 4 miles at a decent pace (in little over an hour) and I used to do over 1,000 ab crunches and still work a regular 8-hour job.

I agreed with your views before but you made some great new points here I hadn't thought of. I don't think the writers should make the decisions about the Hall because if they were offended by someone like Bonds,Albert Belle, Shilling or possibly Delgado had HOF careers, they keep them out. Which is childish. It's about what they did on the field. And what Rose did playing harder than anyone should trump what he did (betting not throwing a game) when his playing days were over.

Guys, let's end the debate about Bonds and everybody else who is not in the HOF but has the credentials to be there. Another facility needs to be erected. Call it the Hall of Shame. Put in there a bust of every player who should be in the HOF but disgraced themselves in some way that prevented them from being inducted. Each bust should have its head hanging down, the lighting in the room should be dimmed and the ceiling should have a mural of dark clouds painted on it. This way these great athlete's accomplishments on the field are finally recognized but, in a way, so that their shame and the disgrace they brought to the game is recognized as well.

You can't hold a player accountable for what the game allowed. For some reason, when it comes to wrestling, I don't really care, but there is supposed to be integrity in professional sports. The whole era is a wash and it's impossible to pick and choose whose achievements are valid. Baseball became wrestling in the sense that it was no longer a professional sport, and it was only a form of entertainment. No integrity, no respect, and without respect, your achievements are only ego-based numbers.

Barry Bonds was a Hall of Famer by the fifth year in the league where he probably was still with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The sheer nature of the controversy itself has ruined the appeal of the game for me. Outside of the times I’ve lived in San Francisco and St. Louis and near Baltimore, where the stadium experience and the job offered free tickets, I’m never going to a game, I’m never following sports media on baseball and MLB further disappears.

Gentleman, I have seen alot of commentary on this issue over the years, this by far is the best segment there has been, you might as well shut the Hall of Fame down if Bonds is not in it. If all the writers that vote watch this how could you not vote him in. Its simple are his stats valid.. yes. Was he ever suspended by baseball .. no. Thats all you can go by period. The only aspect I think missed in your segment is he was not a media or writers darling , it became personal and not based on his resume. Saw Bonds play live alot and he is the only player that the venders stopped in their tracks to watch him hit, and the sound it made when he did…. Vote him in…. Be well fellas
