President Biden not only was sick, but stood outside in Atlanta heat and greeted his supporters individually when he arrived, I wish he would have gone inside to rest and hydrate for a couple of hours before the debate. No matter, he still has my respect, support and vote.

Honestly… It was hard to watch Libby. I should have stopped watching after 10 minutes and screaming at the TV every time T would lye (my husband was saying « He can’t hear You » 😂😂😂 but I wanted to lift M. B. But it did not work….Darn!!! I was upset after the debate. Watched analysis on different Chanels Canadians and Americans. It was like watching a horror movie except this was real. Oh! Dear!!! CNN was sold to a Trumper last year. That could have colored their moderating. Just like the local news stations around Washington DC, VA, and Maryland. Even though all three areas are VERY Blue, all the news stations owned by Sinclair definitely lean to the right. I never hear them say anything good about President Biden, and I look! Trying to find the least red one of the local stations to watch. TBH I usually give up after a while and go watch “Bones” re-runs.

The moment the debate started, I could feel the intensity of Biden’s anxiousness. When I heard his hoarse voice, my heart sank. There was no way he could match Trump’s energy. I also was surprised that Trump kept his emotions in check. However, I did believe Trump avoided questions or answered questions vaguely. I pray for a Biden physical health and political health recovery 🙏🏼
This debate didn't showcase Biden the way I would have liked, however, I will vote for Joe Biden regardless. As you said above in your comment - "he is a hell of a President." I'll take him any day over the former president!!
For me Biden did well. He should not and will never lower himself to Trump. People confuse being a bully as a powerful person. Do not forget Biden stutters all his life which is a most difficult to control.
I thought he did well but I think the moderators were horrible and one-sided because they didn't make Trump stuck to the questions asked and just let him do whatever! Made me so angry! I also think the questions asked really wasn't anything that the answers to would make me decide who to vote for even if I was undecided.
CNN gave Trump a worldwide Campaign Rally. The least the moderators could've done was repeated the questions 3 or 4 times when Trump kept refusing to answer them. Biden may not be the best orator in the world but he is a hella decent man and a damn good president. I look at a man's actions and Biden's actions have been honorable, decisive and has kept America solvent.
After fifteen minutes I had to leave, I couldn't watch. I'm most angry with Biden's handlers.... why let him debate when he is ill and exhausted?? I don't choose any president by their performance as a speaker. I listen to the things they say and look at their character as a person. President Biden did not feel well, sound great or even look great. Perhaps he should not have debated under those conditions, but being the person he is he pushed forward anyway. Bottom line he didn't present well. However, he is a very good president and he has done a lot for many people. I am a 74 year old senior. I do NOT like these types of debates. What can you really get across in 2 minutes per question? Biden was trying to speak too fast to get his ideas out there and he ended up causing anxiety for himself and began stuttering. He needed to slow down so he could articulate and prevent his stuttering which is what he did at the State of The Union Address where he was great. The ex-president is a compulsive liar and he brazenly continued his lies. I do think President Biden was stunned by the outright lies Trump told which were really things Biden had done. I will vote for President Biden again and I have faith that if he feels he cannot finish the job he will step aside for Kamala Harris to become the President. I'm positive the ex-president would never do that willingly!

Check out Keith Obermann's commentary on it. He is a strong source as he has previously moderated Democratic primary debates. If you aren't familiar with him he is quite brilliant. He really laid into CNN for not calling TRUMP out on ALL HIS LIES. I COULDN'T WATCH. TOO PAINFUL AND HAVING TO LISTEN TO TRUMP - could not.

People are overreacting to Bidens' debate performance. He wasn't at his best, but at least his answers contained substance and facts. I think the time limits made it hard to control his speech impediment. He needs to simplify his message and cut out all the statistics and number of his accomplishments. Trump answered with lies to almost every question or deflected from answering the question at all.
Biden also spent half the time fact checking Trump - which was not his job to do ... vote blue up and down and then let history take care of itself thereafter

Originally, I was not going to watch the debate, but I did and till the end. It was not as gory as I expected. Watching President Biden walk on stage and the weakness and coarseness in his throat was disappointing. He gained a little strength mid way, but there were a ton of missed opportunities and so many unsaid important facts where he could have struck points w undecided voters. He should have rested and been in top physical shape to how his strength. Any thing negative, does not change my mind. Trump behaved himself for trump though he was rude. CNN has definitely moved to the far right ! I was disgusted that Jake Tapper and Dana Bash failed to fact check Trump’s torrent of lies ! I had to turn it off after 40 minutes but went to MSNBC . Joy Reid was devastated and the panel were feeling so disappointed. Lots of pundits depressed , saying maybe they should replace Joe. I was so sad after I heard these comments ! I can’t watch Trump spew so many lies. He makes my skin crawl !
Exactly it was a debate between Biden and Trump. Not the moderators job to challenge the lies just to keep the debate focused. The rules did not allow for fact checking by the moderators

Had a flash a day and a half ago that Biden’s voice was going to be off and that he didn’t have much juice and Trump was going to be lying and bold and the monitors wouldn’t be fact checking. Watched 3 mins and had a dejavu and listened to P.G. Wodehouse story to lighten my mood and calm my heart.

Saw the best advice tonight: the media wants clicks for money, so they will be as inflammatory as possible. Don’t click on any articles about the debate, don’t feed the media monsters, and they will quickly move on to a different topic.

I hate to say this but I don't know if he's capable of that. Most people will come to a decision from what they saw tonight. They won't be interested in the whys or wherefores - whether he had a cold, or the mike was a bit dodgy; none of that matters. They will judge Biden by the optics of how he conducted himself during the debate. And it really upsets me to say this, but Biden's performance was catastrophic. And I could cry for him, but I can't lie for him.
I heard a blurb on the news early Thursday morning that Pres. Biden was nursing a terrible cold the past 3 days while at Camp David, and l got a not so good feeling when l heard that. My 'feeling' was correct as we saw, hence the raspy voice and him being possibly a bit zapped. I wished President Biden had announced to those hideous commemtators before he took his first question that he has a cold, and to please forgive him for his raspy voice. We as Democrats are so good at pearl clutching, hand wringing, and losing our collective minds over missteps. We must certainly acknowledge Biden’s weaknesses but we mustn’t get sucked into the abyss of despair because our own expectations may have been off the mark. We lose perspective and the larger picture under these circumstances because the stakes are so high. It’s understandable, of course, but we have to get a grip. - The rules of this debate were poorly conceived. CNN did not do themselves proud at all. No real fact checking. Time limits here did no one any favors. -Trump was given more time collectively, but he did not win the debate by any stretch of the imagination. Sadly, the immediate spin has been very deep disappointment about Biden and not nearly enough indignation about the lies. Trump may have started strong, but at no time did he answer questions, even under repeated responses opportunities. Lie after lie, insult after insult. The lies, lack of clarity, and the lack of linear thinking on Trump’s part kept Biden and the 2 moderators all off their game. This was not actually a debate - Biden was both attempting to answer the relevant questions and respond to the brain liquifying responses from Trump. Honestly, under the rules they set, it was impossible. We all seem to approach these things with Trump as if he’ll be compliant and logical, and we get confused every time he isn’t and he never is. - Trump started off giving a stronger performance. Remember that a performance is what it was. Biden started off weaker, sounded as sick as he was initially, but started to gain some momentum as he started to engage some of his own indignation. We MUST keep in mind that Trump is a malignant narcissist with completely disorganized thinking as well as cognitively seriously impaired. Therefore we have to approach him and Biden must approach him as if we and he were stable psychiatrists and not get emotionally hijacked by Trump. Stop treating him as if he’s a normal politician. He is neither. While at the beginning he was a bit more disciplined, he lost his mind and devolved into bizarre answers and hateful insults after 20-30 minutes. That is his limit for coherence, I think. And - as a malignant narcissist, an element of sadism reared its ugly head as he began to think he saw weakness. It caused him to become more cruel, something he actually enjoys. He wasn’t happy in this debate and the only pleasure he got was through deflection and cruelty. - Joe began clean up toward the end of the event and then attended viewing parties in Atlanta in various venues. He was sharp, stood tall, engaged with attendees, was enjoying himself, owned his performance with the caveat that one can’t debate lies or liars, and did not melt into a puddle of goo. That was an obvious sign of his strengths, and was good to see. -MSNBC showed a small focus group of R’s and I’s, and not one of them said they were going to vote for Trump under any circumstance. They were disappointed in the debate format and in Joe’s weak performance, but asserted that Joe is a good and decent man who cares about this country. 3 out of the 4 people implied they would be voting for Biden if these would be the 2 candidates. - We have got to be honest about ourselves and our expectations. We are behaving as if Joe should have been someone he is not and that isn’t fair to him. He was during the debate who he is. It’s us that are unreasonable, I think, when we expect him to do something no one can do - try to carry on logical discourse with a psychopath. None of us can do this well or easily. Any psychiatrist will attest to this. - I feel strongly that we have got to take a page from the R playbook: circle the wagons, focus on one main intension - winning - and quit the hand wringing now. Righteous indignation is a very important sentiment for us and we have got to embody that. Like I told someone else, we need to all collectively put on our big girl panties and get on with this. Fight and don’t lose sight of the realities of these 2 men. We know who they are and we know which one has given us the best economic picture and outlook in decades, who actually has enacted the most amazing policies and who does put us first. Debates are performances, and incumbents are notorious for failing first debates miserably. Hilary did, Obama did, both Bushes did, no exceptions. It’s a moment in time and a great opportunity to reset and charge forward! Sorry for the screed. The MSNBC commentators, whom I love, just really torqued me off for the vapors they were swooning from. When Lawrence O’Donnell and then Gavin Newsome brought some clarity to the situation, it seems that folks were a bit more able to be scraped off the ceiling. Thanks for letting me rant, Libby. I was out doing sports activities tonight and missed the debate. I viewed the commentaries from Meidas Touch, Steve Schmidt to name a couple and others and saw some highlights. Holy moly, Biden looked like he needed a rocking chair and a dog by his side. He did not look good or respond well is an understatement. How frustrating this all is. And I saw your vid on Roger Stone. Why is he not in jail? Oh yeah, something called presidential pardons. This is how the President lets all his co conspirators out of jail.
If the debate was a 7 AM it would have been completely different. 9 PM is where Trump is just waking up. Biden was dealing with Putin's nuclear war threats all day Thursday. (Not a coincidence.)
