Debbie's Voice has got so much richer as she's aged and of course the Bands Equipment and sound has massively improved! I remember the 1979 concert Live and The band hit the Flattest note on Picture This that to this day makes me wince lol I saw them live about 10 years ago and The sound and Vocals were A MAZ ING! thanks for this Video!
How can this possibly be a 'vocal evolution' when the quality of the recordings and mixes varies so much , ranging from her miming to the studio version, to something that sounds like it was recorded in a toilet cubicle.
Surprised to see Blondie play New Zealand in 2010, on this channel BTW. Courtney Love said Blondie could only play giant cities of the US and the world, she could not sell out major venues, even with the hits. Perhaps the complex music, or her having Heart of Glass hit big when she was close to 30 years of age. The big issue was talent vs youth, her record company decided to invest in Madonna instead of Deborah H.
She did well here, They were big in Australia before anywhere else in the world, I was personally at that concert which was co headlined with the Pretenders :)
@@artbell259 they also came back a few years later which I went to with Cyndi Lauper, I have videos of that that aren't online. Debbie and Cyndi did a couple of duets.
@@daviescw That is cool to hear about, Cyndi had a stronger voice than Madonna and maybe better songs, I think Cyndi had a very very hard time playing her old hits. And keeping an upbeat energy, even in the mid 1990s she was applying blues to them, which is unfortunate for the purists out there. For Blondie to write 'Maria' really shows how A+ their skills are.
I wonder why she sang it in D sometimes and sometimes in E. It's quite a difference....I love the sound of her voice in E when she does the higher notes ....going into a bit of falsetto (like the record) it's bright and light. In D her voice is darker.
