This should be applicable to future versions. To upgrade Debian from a terminal: sudo apt update -y sudo apt dist-upgrade -y cd /opt/google/cros-containers/bin sudo ./upgrade_container DEBIAN_BOOKWORM sudo systemctl disable lightdm Reboot Linux. System control (systemctl) is a systemd command that can be used to set and check the status of the system greeter: sudo systemctl disable lightdm sudo systemctl enable lightdm sudo systemctl status lightdm As always, it's good practice to backup the Linux system before doing a major update of any kind. To verify that the version you are interested in is available, view the script with the following command: cat upgrade_container | less Questions are welcome and encouraged. Hi Ruth! I am pretty new to Linux in general, but my Chromebook got its final update, and this has helped me avoid upgrading! I mainly use it for homework (Cybersecurity) and Firefox ESR is so slow that it freezes while i am working on projects in my school's 360 environment, videos are choppy and slow etc...could you recommend any fixes or other browsers I could try? Much appreciated!

To add, I have already done the Bookworm upgrade and added the env prefix to the apps you recommended.

My two recommendations would be to try running the browser without the desktop, or download the video and watch it on your computer. You can also try lowering the resolution of the video. There are many variations on running a browser outside of the desktop, don't be afraid to experiment. When using sommelier, you can try hitting the ChromeOS fullscreen key. From the terminal, without starting the desktop: firefox firefox-esr sommelier firefox sommelier -X --scale=1.2 --glamor firefox sommelier --help You can create a script to run a browser only. Here's an example: sudo nano /usr/bin/gof sommelier -X --scale=0.75 --glamor firefox Ctrl-O, Enter, and Ctrl-X to save the file and exit nano. sudo chmod +x /usr/bin/gof gof An easy way to shutdown the desktop, without shutting down Linux: killall Xephyr Microsoft Edge may work better with 360. Microsoft Edge is now available on Linux. Download for Linux (.deb) | Linux (.rpm) www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge/download?form=MA13FJ There's also Chromium which is De-Googled Chrome: sudo apt install chromium Another option is the Surf browser, this is a very lightweight browser: sudo apt install surf surf start.duckduckgo.com surf file:/// surf --help man surf You may also be interested in reviews of other browsers: itslinuxfoss.com/top-8-lightweight-web-browsers-linux/ You may also be interested in downloading videos: itsfoss.com/download-youtube-linux/

First, install Linux: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4bKeaVw_eqc.html Second, install the desktop: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ea6xKZD41hI.html

hi, I have an old 2-core 4GB ram laptop in which I downloaded cros flex, do you recommend to upgrade to Bookworm or will that consume too much of the resources?

I see your point. This is only an opinion, I believe you would be better off running Debian 12 Bookworm without ChromeOS. If you are able to boot from USB, you can run Debian live as a test. You do not need to delete Chrome Flex to run Debian 12. Debian Live Installs: cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current-live/amd64/iso-hybrid/ You can install and run Debian on an external SD card or USB stick. You would never need to delete Chrome Flex. When running Debian 12, you can create a 4GB swap partition to expand RAM.
