The Wiz is my childhood fav musical movie.💛 Deborah Cox - so awesome what her & her husband are doing to continue the legacy. When Diana sang “Believe in Yourself” I believed it then and Deborah gives it life all over again with her angelic vocals 🎶 Amazing!!
My favorite songstress The Deborah Cox , can sing anything, I’m interested in seeing this play. The voice the look she still got it after all theses years have gone by. Truly Amazing
I saw it too in the movies. I was six years old in 1978. It was so magical to see it as a child. I believe that why I have such a strong attachment to the Wiz.
The Wiz was awesome it was the firstr play my mom took me to see and Saturday I took my daughter to see Wiz her first play. We loved the whole cast💜👏👏👏
I just saw the show in DC last week, run don't walk to got tickets to touring if near you or wait and see on Broadway. Great voices, classic story, costumes. Awesome
I am so going to see this show! Who going to play Dorothy? She can sing and her voice is so powerful and beautiful still. She must have lived a good life. Love it !
Oh my God that was beautiful. I love Deborah Cox her voice is amazing I hope she gets a Tony for that rendition of Believe in Yourself. She made me cry too. I could her Whitney Houston through out just Outstanding.
I saw the original when I was a very little boy and my aunt took me....and I loved it. Stephanie Mills, extraordinary! Still is. I will say that the song that hits me more than the others is "Home"....as it has so much meaning for all of us, in some way, no matter where you're from or race, sexual orientation, etc. The film, which came out when I was, again, little, didn't do it for me....except for Lena Horne whom my parents talked about having grown up in MGM times and having grown up in E. Harlem which was then Italian Harlem. Anyway, I didn't like Diana Ross in that role. She was too old and it took away from the naivetè of that character who we all know as a teenager, no matter how much they rewrite the script to adapt to Ms. Ross's age. The TV version was awful though I loved the good witch (Orange is the New Black).....I am glad it is back and it is getting wonderful reviews and I so enjoyed Ms. Cox's version of the song which I already loved....as done by Ms. Horne.
Y’all didn’t even have to speak nor sing a thing smh all y’all had to do is sit there in all ur black excellence for 6 minutes lol and 31 seconds and I would’ve watched it! Queen Tamron smh Queen Diva Deborah smh YALL look divine! #SALUTE
Tamron reminded me of how pretty D Ross was when she did the Wiz. She was too old for such a vulnerable role but her voice was beautiful in the recordings. Now this new cast is bottom budget. The Wiz is this classic black Broadway show. That has all of these lovely babies in it as it heads back to broadway. But where are the stars? It has low Low budget or I just want to break even written all over this cast. They obviously didn’t want to pay anyone. Thee people aren’t good enough for the WIZ. Love the new logo. But this cast is just so ordinary. This is one of the most successful black theatre shows and you are missing the gold standard. You have people who could come and bring the stage down nightly but they are nonexistent in this production. You have good enough but not enormously talented people who are household names. I send my love to all on opening night but this has cotton candy written all over it, with corn dogs on a plate. Such a missed opportunity to really blow the roof off broadway. But it’s just okay. That’s my take. I want something amazing and different like when Whitney did cinderella. The sets, music arrangements, costumes, lighting, and stars with bankable names. They are all hardcore hardworking performers but not mega stars. This is the WIZ people!
Agreed. Deborah has a beautiful voice, and "Believe In Yourself" is a beautiful song, but that arrangement is horrible . I hope they use the arrangement that Dee Dee Bridgewater and Lena Horne had in the production.
@@blackbroadwayandbeyond you want her to sing it exactly as the original production, nearly 50 years ago? It's a NEW production. Nice to get a different spin. I think she's phenomenal but we can disagree.
@@ssinssg I guess you were a fan of Fergie's rendition of the national anthem, huh? That was a new arrangement of a well over 50 year song.😂 New shouldn't mean we give a free pass for something mediocre. Nevertheless, new productions can and SHOULD have updated arrangements, but that doesn't excuse the lackluster orchestrations or bare bones piano accompaniment. Maybe it was stripped down to fit for the tv show presentation, so the music can be excused, but Deborah Cox is a smart and talented singer who knows where to add embellishments and where to sing it straight. Her presentation of this song here and at various promo events since is just ok, in my opinion. I'm just used to Deborah being great. I know she's trying to make it her own, especially given that she has very limited stage time, but this version just wasn't making me want to spend any money to see the new production. Nichelle Lewis's performance WAS done with the original arrangements, but she still made it her own and sounded great. Oh, well. Hope you enjoy the show if you get a chance to see it.
