“There's a difference in the morality [of today]. I don't want to be embarrassed when I go to see something on the screen. I don't want to listen to foul language, watch a lot of violence or see something immoral. I prefer stories with sensitivity and family values; films that strive to lift you up to a higher place in life. Those types of films are few and far between today. As a result, I seldom go to the movies.” - Debra Paget… watch my Howard Hughes video next “Howard Hughes k!IIed by the elites? Whoa! 🤯 Great observation of Debra Paget and Priscilla Presley. Priscilla REALLY did look like her. Maybe Priscilla was Debra's replacement. 👀 Nonetheless, the similarities between Debra and Brooke Shields are BEYOND disturbing! 😢 I'm grateful Miss Paget is STILL with us. She's a fighter. ❤
Hey Karine ! Please look up the names of celebrities before u post! I do enjoy ur videos but u always mispronounce names ! Debra's last name is pronounced Pa( the first syllable is pronounced with a short A as in apple and the second syllable is pronounced jet. U put the emphasis on the last syllable instead of the first!
That snake dance is my favorite! Debra was so beautiful. I'm glad she decided to protect her peace and leave Hollywood. She and Priscilla do look like twins!
Yes, her AND Ms. Yvonne de Carlo knocked me out as a very young kid when these flicks were released. But so did Ms. Loren. Ms Taylor. Ms. Dorothy Dandridge- remember her name! And so many others who had projected a certain level of class and a style. And all were RAGING BEAUTIES .Sadly, it's not so prevalent these days.....
The fact this woman ate my grandmother's incredible cooking is mind-blogging to me! According to my grandmother's obituary, she cooked for Debra Paget during one of her iconic films. My grandmother was the best cook that ever lived. She also cooked for heart surgeon Byron Printzmetal.
So Debra Paget in the bare skin but sparkly number is giving Britney Spears in Toxic and Megan in Cobra. There is even a Cobra in Debra’s scene as well when she do her dance. I am convince these industry creative just go into the archives and just recreate them and we think it’s new!
Honestly, I respect Debra's decision to walk away from Hollywood. All throughout her career, her personal integrity and values never drifted far from her. She NEVER would have gotten involved or sold herself to today's Hollyweird.
I mean, Hollywood back then was certainly no better imo. If anything it was way worse, especially when it came to the exploitation of women and children.
Wouldn't surprise me. Aside from the sexy video for Beautiful Liar by Beyonce' and Shakira, I think about Baby Boy. Baby Boy by Beyonce' and Sean Paul. Think about the sultry dance in the sand Beyonce' had done. Definitely looks INSPIRED. Debra Paget should be acknowledged more. She was a lovely siren. 💐 ❤
Belles on the Toes (1952 ) which is the sequel to Cheaper By The Dozen (1950) that's my favorite movie with her. I just didn't know much about her. Thank you Karine🌷💕
💐💐💐 the resemblance with Priscilla Presley is striking!! What a dancer and natural beauty!! Those glass contacts, ugh, its lucky that her eyes werent damaged!! The name Debra needs a resurrgence with a new generation of baby girls. It was very popular in the 1950s & early 60s, and if thats your name (like me), it dates you😂
That would be nice if that name came back. You don't hear people naming their girls Debra anymore ...😢😢😢 I was born in the late 60s and my older brother named me Debra
Yikes, at least the male actor had the decency to think it was creepy that his love interest in the film was so young. I’m glad we’re finally getting better about not s*xualizing and exploiting minors. 🤮
I loved seeing Debra Paget in film. She's beautiful. Even in the Roger Corman films and DeMille's COMMANDMENTS, she shines.......We may not find another like her today..........
❤ At least her momma was with her the whole time, she got to keep her innocence unlike ALL of the other actresses. I personally don't mind the films she allowed her to be in. I will say that I think her mom maybe had a lot to do with the type of movies she was cast in too.
That snake dancing costume is AMAZING, STUNNING!.I'm truly surprised it's not copied more often. I just pray that something super toxic, painful wasn't used to keep it in place. Something like Elmer's or Gorilla Glue😳😱🥺😢
That was beautiful and I hope that it is in the Smithsonian or some fashion HOF because that was a masterpiece!! Or, like when that one movie studio went out of business and they let people buy costumes and things from the movies they made. I hope it didn't suffer the fate this one dress did. I forgot the movie it was in, but it was beautiful, but stored in a room with a leaky roof and it dripped on the dress and eroded away 1/2 the dress away.
This was my thoughts..she KNEW what they were capable of and was not letting them destroy her baby girls life with their nonsense. Quote on quote..her religious beliefs..she allowed them to do some things to please them but to not let them exploit her child to EVERYTHING hollyweird do.
I do think it’s kinda funny she objects to today’s film’s morals or presumably lack thereof but she herself danced seductively and mostly nude in one of her films. I’m not shaming her for doing that but it certainly seems a bit hypocritical when I’m guessing she faced the same sort of criticism in her time.
@@GwendolynPorter-w6c oh come on, even if it’s flesh colored for all intents and purposes she appeared mostly nude. Be real. 😂 you’re wrong anyway, there is no flesh colored suit. It’s just the stuff they stuck onto her body. I can’t see any evidence of a flesh colored suit and even if she was wearing it it’s completely see through so a pointless distinction on your part.
@@GwendolynPorter-w6c lol I love how you just confidently made up the part about the flesh colored suit. *Asked about her skimpy dance costume in Lang’s THE INDIAN TOMB, she says it was stuck on with “a marvelous glue called UHU.” This amused me because I grew up with UHU and never appreciated its marvelousness fully until now. “In fact, we used to call it ‘the UHU movie’ because earrings were glued on, everything was glued on!”*
She was playing a seductress. So it was appropriate for that role. The most famous child seductress was Salome from the Bible. There is a movie about her and famous, classical paintings of her.
No but seriously I NEVER really cared that much about Hollywood or celebrities....but your channel...your content is different. It feels like a history lesson. I love the beauty bits at the end. Your voice, so soothing. Bravo Karine!!!
Elvis Presley was in love with Debra Paget and had plans to marry her. Debra and Elvis started out as friends and fell in love and remained friends even after they broke up
@@kathleendobens6648 no this was his first movie before he was drafted (before he even met Priscilla in Germany)... some say that's why he was so struck by Priscilla due to her resemblance
I grew up on the Ten Commandments & love it as well. "Joshua! Joshua!" (outside of Charleton Heston's epic lines, her's were the most memorable for me💗). Inexplicable why they cast her, of all people, in so many ethnic roles. I "check" on her periodically, and am so thankful she's still around 🙏 She's sadly one of the last. Her beauty sustained because she is pretty on the inside, obviously Cilla's has not 😈😉
I was very young when I saw Bird of Paradise. I don't remember anything else about the movie except Debra falling into the volcano. The image stayed with me.
In some southern states an older man at James Stewart’s age were allowed to marry a teenage girl with her parents permission. I know that was the law in Georgia
Have you considered the story of the stunning actress Francis Farmer? She was discovered when she was young and recognized for her beauty intelligence and natural acting skills 🙏 ❤🙏💚
I think the big age gap was so widely accepted back then and even now in certain countries because girls didn’t have the ability to build a life for themselves the way they do now. Plus, let’s be honest daughters are often used to a family’s advantage in many different ways, especially monetary.
Excellent Documentary…really enjoy listening to all their stories…Good for Debra she had a life after Hollywood…I’m glad she was Born Again nothing more important in this world 🕊️🕊️🕊️…Beautiful ♥️
I had seen a documentary that said miss Debra was totally unaffected by Elvis and did not like him thank you for clearing that up she seemed very well adjusted considering
@ClementineDaydream unaffected meaning not interested but glad you repeated what had already been explained here lol even though we all got it the first time 🤣
Debra's beauty is captivating she was stunningly beautiful, you can see the resemblance between Debra and Priscilla even as she aged, although Debra was more beautiful and sizzled sex appeal, she was a very talented actress, l have watched some of the movies she stared in with older men l love westerns but didn't realize how young she was in the film broken arrow wow 15 almost 16 years old l always though they made her look younger for the movie as it was before my time but l have watched it on TV a few times, l loved her in Love me Tender but in that movie she married Vince played by (Elvis) but fell in love with his brother, l am happy she walked away from Hollywood and found her faith 🙏🌷🌹🌷
In those days the age difference was not a big deal due to culture and tradition. According to scholars, in biblical days the average bride was about 13, and the groom was about 30. It was believed back then when a young lady started her period she was ready to wed and have babies. Now that there are laws in place and culture changed we see things quite differently. My very own grandmother got married at 16. To them this concept was customary, some even deemed as holy, not alarming like it is today.
Absolutely. Romeo and Juliet were 14. People had children at that age since they usually died by age 35. 35 was considered very old and the natural human lifespan. Modern medicine has greatly extended lifespans.
0:22 Soooo this is where Normani's Wild Side video inspo came from... Hey Karine 👋 I already know this is going to be great! For some reason i'm always drawn to the black and white thumbnails.
Debra Paget's story also tells the tale of how younger women and older men still have relationships and some entertainers have consequences, some do not. I really enjoy your videos, you are wise beyond your years Karine Alourde!
@@KarineAlourde🚬👴🏿🥃 IT TAKES MORE TO BE A NATIVE AMERICAN THAN HIGH CHEEKBONES , REAL NATIVE AMERICANS AND ASIANS FOR THAT MATTER HAD BEAUTIFUL ALMOND EYES AND REAL RED HEW AND YELLOW BIEG SKINS PAGET HAD AN UNUSUAL STONE FACE AS HER SISTERS HAD AND BUSTER KEATON HAD ALSO . THE GREAT ACTOR MARLON BRANDO WAS RIGHT WHEN WHEN HE SAID HOLLYWOOD SHOULD HIRE REAL NATIVE AMERICAN ACTRESSES FOR NATIVE AMERICAN PARTS .
My grandma was born in 1933 and whenever I'd show her younger pictures to my friends, everyone said she could have been a movie star. My grandma was modest and would just laugh it off.
Mine & my husband too. He recently passed away recently after a TBI and a broken neck after 360 in the hospital. We were married for 41 years since we were 17. The last time we had a coherent conversation was Easter Sunday. Divine intervention?
❤ Thank you for the in-depth information that you provide on the Actors whose experiences in the limelight are rarely known. Having the protection of her mother being there probably was necessary to protect her from being abused or molested by powerful, corrupt, or cruel individuals who could have ruined this naïve young girl if she didn’t have her mother’s protection and guidance. As for marrying Elvis Presley; she evidently dodged a big bullet since his life was plagued by scandal and rumors of substance abuse and marital infidelity. The best part of her story is in seeing this woman’s talents displayed in so many projects that enabled her to shine in spite of the obstacles, challenges, and stiff competition from other ⭐️ stars. Knowing when to walk away from the spotlight is probably one of the best things to happen to her too, giving her the chance to do something different to define herself as more than just an Actress. Here’s her well deserved praise 👏🏾and 🌷🌼🌹🌺flowers 💐 from a long time fan.
Thank you for this lovely profile of Debra Paget. As a girl, I always loved seeing her in movies, and sometimes on television. She was so beautiful and talented from head to toe. It’s so gratifying to know that she escaped the “dream factory” before they ruined her. Now I know that her soul is as beautiful as her body. It didn’t surprise me to hear that she was made to do unseemly things for a girl her age; for the studio, she was a property to be exploited. It reminded me of my aunt. In the late 20’s and early 30’s she was a student in the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Her classmates were Rosalind Russell, Ginger Rogers and Una Merkel. She was closest to Una Merkel. Ms. Merkel played character parts in her career and was often cast as the sidekick of Ginger Rogers. My aunt dropped out of the Academy before finishing to marry my uncle. He was a career Naval officer and was stationed in the Los Angeles area in the early 40’s. My aunt excitedly got in touch with her old friend to find out about her life and career. When she told her how impressed she was with her success and how great she looked, She replied, “I may look good on the outside, but I’m a mess on the inside.” It was then that my aunt learned about the “casting couch”and the toll it took on aspiring actresses. She was so glad she had made the decision not to go into the entertainment industry. I’m so thankful that God directed my aunt and Debra Paget to a more fulfilling life. GOD BLESS DEBRA!!! 🌹💐🪻🪷🌼🌸🌺🥰😇❤️
THANK You for doing deeper research and bringing forth better insight from the " Golden Era" Your videos keep getting more layered and interesting!!! Thank God this one held on to her sanity and left that Dark place. Growing up in Miami, so broke i depended on PBS, and watched masterpiece theater on Sunday nights religiously. I grew depressed from all the murder mystery shows, although although they had great actors. Inspector Morse, Poirot, Prime Suspect etc. It seemed to always revolve around the same theme. Uggh, you can understand my disdain now, because its so Hard to find wholesome shows with good messages. ❤
I remember her when I was a young kid and as I grew up I wondered where she went. Based on her self direction especially in the movie industry she was a very intelligent young lady. She survived and dodged some horrible paths and saved her life by not submitting to others destructive desires so evident in others lives. All the best to Debra and her family.
Wow Ms. Karine, I really appreciate how much effort you put into your videos. They are all so interesting. Thank you for all of your hard work and research.
I'm a big fan of Marilyn's but Debra was no less beautiful than her. A beautiful face is great, but true sensuality is the allure of soul and eyes.....they must capture.
I can imagine that being sexualized from such a young age, it would be even more uncomfortable for her to see young men having sexual impulses toward her. I can see how that could create a sense of guilt/shame, and just an icky feeling. Its almost like a form of grooming, but subtle. Its like the studios are using her beauty to groom the boys into lifelong customers, through their sexuality. Its exploitative of all sides. I’m glad Debra spoke on this, I’ve often thought how odd it must be for women to meet the boys/men that idolize them IRL. I’m so glad she got out of Hollywood.
🌺 she was fantastic in the 10 commandments. I am glad she had people to protect her even though she was exploited. I appreciate her courage to get out and follow the Lord.
Everyone also needs to remember that these people are a product of their time. What was culturally acceptable was much different 60+ years ago. We can't hold people from history to contemporary standards. The majority literally didn't have any other perspective but what was considered acceptable for their time.
Omg She’s so beautiful ❤ , Karine your voice is so beautiful & smooth…Is there anyway that you could do a video on this lady named Danielle Darrieux not sure if you had done her yet or anything
@@KarineAlourde Really well thank you. I love the old Hollywood starlets from the 1940s and so forth…Always was curious to know what happened to a lot of them and why things were the way it was in those days. I truly admire what you’re doing tho. Very nice.
