A very informative review. It surprised me to learn that men can suffer from post natal depression too. I knew a guy with bipolar. Sadly he committed suicide. The macho iron man doll could do with a barbie friend.
I think it's interesting that there seems to be a bias amongst many mental health professionals in regard to their patients' gender. Many times f.e. when a male and a female patient show very similiar, virtually the same symptoms, the male gets diagnosed as suffering from NPD, while the females gets diagnosed as suffering from BPD or HPD. I do understand, that personality disorders aren't "pure" in most cases, combinations of 2 or more PDs are far more prevalent, but people shouldn't be diagnosed depending on their gender, when it comes to the decision which one of their PDs is the most pronounced.
I have been diagnosed with G.A.D, OCD, anxiety, and MDD. I also have borderline personality disorder, which is something i actively work on every single day to keep in check. Btw Doc, is it common for people, maybe especially women, to calm their BPD with age? In my teens to mid-20s, I had very little control of it, with little insight. Now, at 38, im MUCH more in control and naturally calmer, with a lot of insight. It could be almost impossible for people to know i suffer from it. It's not even something that affects my life much at all. unless someone says something racist or homophobic , and i can pop off, but it's more of a superpower in that case 😊
@Catlily5 it would be awesome if Dr. Das made a video about how personality disorders age in both men and women. Especially for those who actively chose to work on it.
