Punch-Out!! is a 1987 boxing video game developed and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). Part of the Punch-Out!! series, it is an adaptation of the arcade video games Punch-Out!! and Super Punch-Out!!.
This is the Mr Dream version. I honestly thought this was the original version and they added Mike Tyson as a special edition later on, but that was not the case.

@@14spokenwords It would have been cool if for the 1990 remake where they swap Tyson for Mr Dream, they put in famous opponents that Tyson beat down in the mid to late 80s. Would have been a nice touch. I always thought that you're almost playing AS Tyson in this. Like Mac is a white version of Tyson lol. Tyson started his professional career at 17 and Mac is 17, Mac is from New York and so is Tyson, both had REALLY good trainers (I think Doc Louis is a reference to someone on Muhammad Ali's team or something?), no one had any real expectations for Tyson when he started, the scouting reports on him weren't too impressive.

The NES version of Punch-Out!! almost feels a puzzle game disguised as a boxing game, and it has a shockingly large amount of depth to it once you take a look at the various strategies that speedrunners use. Easily one of the greatest NES game of all time.

Just last week I asked my best friend since kindergarten "do you remember when you beat King Hippo?" I was sleeping over at his house (maybe 13 years old) we were struggling through the game. I passed out and he kept on playing. His father was a janitor at a local school and did 4:00am clean up at a strip mall next door on the weekends, which we helped with. I can never forget how excited he was, in the morning dark, picking up garbage, explaining how he beat King Hippo. THAT was gaming!!

Man all of us that were kids in the 80’s, smh it was hard as hell to beat a lot of these “NES” games. Kids these days and ones that were born in the time frame of when the internet was a thing to look up stuff.. those kids be like “ oh hell yeah it was hard” and trying to claim as if there in are era. We didn’t have the opportunity to look up codes and etc. we had to rely on kids who had the Nintendo magazines or the kids who’s parents allowed to call the 1-800 number for help and tricks on games.. I remember you were the shit, top dawg if you beat certain games. It was a beautiful time if you were a kid in the 80’s.. God I wish we could go back sometimes.. I think it’s kinda stupid they took off iron Mike from the game I know why but still isn’t the same.. this guy especially in are era it be like who the hell is Mr.Dream that game wouldn’t have been as badass as it was it was “Mike Tyson” that had that title that who you bragged about beating..

Mike Tyson's Punch Out is like a life long beat , meaning it took me years till I finally told myself when I was like 15 or 16 years old told myself Mike is going down tonight I don't care how long it takes and a few grueling hours later he was done but I could get to him and sometimes come close but could never beat him, until that night, it's like it all of a sudden dawned on me that I just had to put all the strats together and make it happen 💪😉

I find it weird when people says they "struggle" with a game, because the only times that I feel struggle when playing a videogame is when I don't like them or I'm burned out, which is the point of "stop playing, it's not worth it".
@nikoladedovic4853
@nikoladedovic4853 Год назад
@@dimwarlock Struggle in the context of the above comment means they had a tough time getting though the game. That doesn't automatically mean they were burned out or didn't like the game. Just that they didn't progress much as they hoped for (maybe for the difficult or something else). The example being for me is Battletoads, it was a struggle to get through the game, not because of anything else, but just for the difficulty. 2 tricks for Bald bull rematch. 1. After a knockdown he always does the taunt that gives you a star. 2. Dodge the first bull rush and he will do a shorter on in the first 2 rounds. The shorter one has a slight pause before the throws his punch. 2 tricks for Mr. Sandman. 1. When he starts throwing his hooks, throw a head shot. He will dodge it and immediately throw a hook. If he blocks your head shot, he's about to do his special uppercut move. 2. After the first knockdown, he goes back to throwing hooks. After all other knockdowns, he does his special uppercut move.

And if he blocks it, he will immediately throw another hook, you quickly dodge it, and follow up with a few left/right combos Also, if you punch him in the face when he shuffles his hands, it’s usually a star too.

This is genuinely one of the most skill-intensive and genuinely difficult NES games. You have to have good reactions and execution to complete it. There are many random elements that bait you into anticipation, as well. And the first 90 seconds of Tyson/Mr Dream is a total nightmare that really tests how well you can react, since those punches have zero room for error. Knowing that makes those blindfolded runs so much more ridiculous to watch.

Bayou Billy is probably the hardest game I played as a kid.

It's up there for me. One of the few NES games I've played and never beaten legit (no save states, etc.)

@Ryu it's not on topic here, but the beard is at its best right now. Perfect length.

I agree! The game is really difficult . You have to have good reaction time, and a lot of time to learn everyones techniques and dodging times. I’ve spend a lot of time on this game through out the years.

I'm sure you're in my head Ryu, I was just wondering yesterday if you'd played Punch-Out!

I love the facial expressions of all the opponents you face in punch out.

The 2nd Don Flamenco - Do 2 right punches, then 2 left punches, and repeat until he's KO'd. Mr. Dream - At the beginning: his body flashes before he throws an uppercut. Dodge and punch as soon as you see the flash.

Mr Sandman is the one opponent that with any lag he’s impossible as his special moves are almost immediate one after the other

There are a couple of things that Ryu got wrong in this video, but I can never be mad about someone playing a game that I love such as Punch Out. Keep up with the good content man.

He was wrong about Von Kaiser right? He was thinking about Don Flamenco where he said you can hit him forever if u alternate punches, he also missed that u can punch him in the face for a star when he twitches and when u use the star in the middle of a combo it's an automatic KO

15:14 There is another tell in the audience for that bull charge there is a guy in the left that will nod when you need to throw the punch and this also works for the rematch with piston honda

Rambo and faxanadu were the two games that really pissed me off as a kid. Finally went back and beat blaster master as an adult. That one is a gem.

Is Gradius III debunkable? I loved that game back in the day and enjoyed seeing you play it some. But, yeah, tough as nails on the highest difficulty. Bullet hell before it was a thing.

I was the first to beat Tyson in my neighborhood and school, but another kid in school, Wayne, beat me on actually beating Macho Man as we knew the 007 code but not a code for helping get to Macho Man. We didn't view things in the context of "full game runs", so I don't really know if I ever beat the game with no cheats, though I doubt it. I'd doubt Wayne ever did either. Basically, "I beat Tyson" vs "yeah, but I beat Macho Man" were the only categories.
