weirdly, i only learned about this game from looking up “magical hat flying turbo adventure” (which i somehow managed to get an imported copy of way back in the day) & learning it was a game based on an anime which didn’t get licensed outside of japan - instead, they took the same game & re-skinned it to create decap attack

The soundtrack of the final boss in this game is epic.

A variation of this was called “Magical Flying Hat Turbo Adventure” in Japan, great game!

You guys are like older brothers who grew out of sibling rivalry of Games and just enjoy spending time with one another. I love it.

A very underrated gem for sure. You guys gotta finish this. It's truly awesome.

You guys should try out MediEvil for the ps1 or the remake that's coming up. It's not perfect, but it's a great game with a spooky theme.

Best thing that came out of Decap Attack was a long running comic strip included in the UK Sonic the Hedgehog comics.

I remember my uncle had this game back in the early 90s, and I played it a little bit. I was young though, like 8 or 9 at the time. I don't think I played it again until the 2000s, after emulators were a thing, and then I beat it more recently on the Ultimate Genesis Collection on PS3. Fun game though.

I'm looking to my Decap Attack cartridge right now. One tip: if you bounce down on the top of the bouncing poles you recover life

The music in this by Hiroto Kanno is amazing! Hiroto Kanno also did BattleMania/TroubleShooter, one of my favorite games of all time, has an amazing soundtrack.

Something fun for you guys to search about: Decap Attack is an edit of a completly different japanese game, like Super Mario Bros. 2. The game as other comments pointed out is Magical Flying Hat Turbo Adventure, and that's probably why some of the graphics blend, they were probably changed on an editor, outside of gameplay and not tested enough. Also, there's a weird connection with other games. Magical Flying Hat Turbo Adventure is kind of a sequel do "Psycho Fox" on Master System, which has some relation to Kid Kool. BTW, the "head" is some kind of bird used as a weapon originally On an unrelated note, Beetlejuice on GameBoy is pretty fun, some very creative ideas

Not only it was my favorite Genesis game (after Psycho Fox on the SMS) but you can find an animation I did for the grumps on my channel plus many other high-quality cartoons.

There is a very similar game to this in master system called psycho fox, it's amazing the gameplay is very similar but more cartoony

Fun fact-in Japan this game was a sequel to the game Kid Kool, a game that the ‘nerd reviewed a long while back. In Japan, Kid Kool was a completely different game that starred a famous Japanese child actor. The Japanese game that became Decap Attack wasn’t too different, except you died in one hit and the game originally had a scoring system that was nixed for whatever reason. Interestingly enough, Kid Kool was also improved, reskinned, and released on the Sega Master System as a game called Psycho Fox which featured several gameplay improvements and 4 different playable characters. So yeah, Kid Kool was subjected to a bad case of “Doki Doki Panic-itis”

Good horror themed game to play for Monster Movie Madness

You regenerate your health by jumping on that big ass red pole perfectly vertical. And you can hover by tapping the jump button in mid-air rapidly. Mike had that figured out but didn't realise it. You guys did okay for a first attempt.

We need a part 2 of this game!

Damn this was nostalgic for me, I owned this game as a kid and I remember it being cool but difficult. Especially the totem pole stage drove me crazy :D

God, I used to play the absolute hell out of this as a kid! One of my favorites of all time, though I never managed to beat it. Mike needs to beat this on a stream, seriously!

This game was very similar to Psycho Fox on the Master System. A forgotten gem, that.

I used to play the japanese version (based on a underground anime), it was harder because there is no health, your health is the thing equivalent to the skull that you throw here and if you get caught while throwing you die in one hit. It's a good game that only requires a little practice, we can tell that James was having fun.

This game happens to be #4 of my Top 10 Favorite Sega Genesis games to play on Halloween. :D

Wow, an obscure genesis game that I actually played and enjoyed as a kid and remember enjoying. I think I even rented this one twice.

Ahhh, I used to complete this game over and over when I was young because it had a great ending! Really loved this game!

I loved this game as a kid. I could get to the last boss but I never could beat him though.

The fun thing is that the mega drive version of the game was actually completely different, it was called "Magical Hat no Buttobi Tābo! Daibōken". They changed literally everything (art, plot, music and level design) when they ported it to the genesis. You should try the original too :'D

Resembles by many features Psycho Fox for Sega Master System. Look at the jump platform, the slugging controls, the movements of the character over the edges...

This was a childhood favorite. I think it's actually his intestines shooting out... not that it makes the game any less weird. Also I seem to recall using the freeze potion on 3-1 but it's been almost 30 years since I played it so I could be mistaken 😮😥

I think this was the third game I ever played on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis). First was Sonic the Hedgehog, second was Road Rash, third was Decap Attack.

This is a great game.. Played it all the time. It was a long process to beat. But worth it. Kid chameleon and decap attack were my 2 favorite platformers for the genesis. Highly recommend! Thanks guys.

I couldn't agree more with regards to the clouds and platforming. Apart from that it is a rather surprisingly fun game.

DeCap Attack, Psycho Fox, and Kid Kool are all waaaaayyyy too similar in gameplay styles to be a coincidence! I swear it was one guy shopping the same game around with three different coats of paint.
