I have had those for 1 1/2 years now and I think they are great, the only thing I changed was the laces (since the ones they come with are too elastic and you can't really tighten them that much), and then after some time, I also changed the bearings. That is it. The weels have lasted until now and I have skated a lot. I really like them.

I myself got into skating 2 months ago, i bought the MF500 and just love them for the price. I knew i could do a bit of ice skating so i had some confidence starting out, and now after these 2 months i’m just obsessed and skating everyday ripping trough town. But what i wanted to say is that decathlon made some inexpensive high quality boot that is getting allot of people into inline in a propper way. One problem on the 500 is the buckle wich is updated on the 900 so oxelo is actually also improving on their previous design wich is great to see. So ya in conclusion, the MF line from oxelo is solid and i love that you have gone ahead and bought a pair to showcase. -Mark from the Netherlands.

Good review. I bought the MF500 to learn on as I’ve never skated before and wanted something that wasn’t too expensive. If I learn to actually skate and upgrade, I think I’d change to a dedicated skate brand so that I can source replacement parts.
@knightsljx

the flaws of the skate are true, but that's putting aside who these skates are good for. They are actually fantastic beginner skates, Decathlon shouldn't even sell other models with this series of skates. You get a supportive solid hard shell with heel brake option for beginners to learn on. and then it will carry the beginner well into the advance stages, whether they want to do slides or slalom. by then you would have extracted all the value from the wheels and liner, but you can reuse the frames and especially the shell for a very long time, given the standard mounting distances. It would be very easy to swap between disciplines without having to buy a new skate. want to do slide/slalom, get a Seba frame, marathon? get a 4x/5x large wheel frame. Which address one of the biggest PITAS when changing skates, breaking them in. All that for a low low entry price point

It looks like the same bolts that Flying Eagle uses for connecting the frame to the boot. They are thicker which is good for strength and support but as you said, could be difficult to replace if you can't find one. I think Flying Eagle sells replacement bolts for their frames.

I think all the downsides mentioned in video are something to be expected in a skates for 1/2 price of other big brands and all in all looks like a good value for money, particularly for recreational skaters who don't want to brake the bank. I like the look of the 900, it's something I'll probably try out in the future. I'm a big fan of the MF500, for the price, its a brilliant skate, imho. The cuff! It's weird right? You'd expect to be able to adjust it, but Oxelo say the bolt is there purely to allow you to replace it if damaged. Ankle pain is quite common with these and I also feel it's due to the liner. Oxelo will also soon be stocking replacement parts of these skates.

For me as my daily drivers these work great for urban skating in my area as there are some rougher areas that my old skates couldn’t handle that these breeze over. I like how stable they feel and even though they are a little less controllable than maybe a 4 wheeled blade it’s still plenty good enough for skating on bike paths and roads

Only real "but" I found on my MF500 is that, in my size and smaller (I'm a eu38) there's no option to mount a 195mm frame, which you in fact can in bigger sizes. So, if you have a normal size, you have a 100€ skate which can wear a speed frame 😎

Hi there what about the aggressive oxelo one's is good or bad for beginners
@kamilciura7953
@kamilciura7953 3 года назад
Hi Ricardo! Nice review. I would like to comment on 255 mm frames. From my point of view (and not only mine, I know Powerslide "AM" freeskaters who share the same opinion) 243 mm frame for 3x110 setup works for people with smaller feet, i.e. size EU41 and below. But for bigger sizes, if you want to do urban skating, the skate becomes too wobbly in kind of "over-steering" way. It is a matter of preference, of course, but over the years I've settled for 255 mm frames for 3x110 setup. As there is no low-profile one for Trinity mounting, I simply use 255 mm 3x125 mm frame with 110 mm wheels. Works great. It is also worth to note that Rollerblade uses 255 mm 3x110 frame in their urban skates. I'm size EU42,5 and ditched 243 mm frames long time ago... Not only for 3 wheeled setup, but for 4x80 too. I have 4x80 setup with low profile, 255 mm frame taken off from big size Twister Edges. I don't do cone slalom and thus far, over all these years, I have not felt like the skates are lacking in agility, like ever. Added stability is great as longer frames give you much better base for push, making it super easy to skate faster. IMO 243 mm for 4x80 setup has became widespread because it makes the most sense when you consider that a lot of people start freestyle slalom on hardboots, because they are way more affordable than dedicated carbon boot models. It is also serviceable for freeskating, even though longer frames do give certain benefits (higher speed, better stability on landings and slides). So it's a "hit two birds with one stone" scenario for companies. As for 3x110 in triskates - I know that Powerslide has chosen this length to give skaters the wheelbase they are the most familiar with, as 3x110 is positioned as a big wheel alternative to 4x80 setup. But the most ridiculous of all is FR Skates approach, they use 230mm frames for 3x110 in several of their models. Who is this for? People who like to spin in circles on flat ground? Any higher speed and you'll get massive "shimmy" effect on those. On a side note, that shock absorber is still better than one found in RB 80 line of skates, which are super popular at the moment! ;) Overall, while I usually do not recommend Oxelo skates, I say that having a good shell and decent frame is already more than what you may find in "budget" freeskating offerings from major brands. Pricing got crazy these days! So if the skate fits and someone is on a tight budget but just want to go out and roll, it's not a bad choice and stock liner and wheels will last some time - upgrading them down the line is a viable option.
@Bavmorda
@Bavmorda 3 года назад
Agreed to everything. I'm an EU 38 (usually 231mm frames with 4x76mm) and haven't come back from my current 255mm frames. I guess FR goes with 231 because they're mostly slalom oriented?
@kenmastersmaster
@kenmastersmaster 3 года назад
What's crazy about skate prices these days? They cost exactly the same as 5 or 10 years ago.... Also rollerblade offers 243 and 255 for 4x80 from sizes 11 and up
@kamilciura7953
@kamilciura7953 3 года назад
@@kenmastersmaster Nah, even if you take inflation in to account, current prices are higher - you are most often getting lower quality for the equivalent value. I know about Rollerblade offering 255 mm in large sizes (in fact, I own and use one of such frames myself). Powerslide started to use 273mm (4x90) frames on large sizes of Next 80 for example. What I am saying is that even for someone who wears EU41 boot, 243 mm long frame is hardly optimal for urban skating unless somoene is doing freestyle slalom in the same setup.

Really good review Lino, I was just thinking while watching it, okay so it's a pretty good skate for the money except for the wheels and the liner, but.. when you add the cost of those, it becomes a more expensive option, and then you said exactly that lol.. I guess you could skate those wheels til they're just worn out before you buy new ones, but if you're gonna need a better liner also.. I think this skate is a decent option for those who are new to skating it's a good entry level skate that won't break the bank, and you could develop your skating skills, maybe buy the next level up in time. I started out on skates that were nowhere as good as that (fixed, riveted frames, soft boot, really BAD wheels) and they were around the same price. These are way better, good for a beginner.

@Bavmorda 3 года назад
You can change pretty much everything in these! I currently have my MF500 with a powerslide ufs 4x90 frame with adapters, Sifika liners, obviously new wheels and bearings after 2 years... And none of that I had to buy on the spot, I just kept updating when replacement was needed; you can't just add the upgrades' cost to the buying price if those upgrades aren't mandatory. The skates are pretty decent as they come, and they're easy to upgrade (instead of throwing them away and starting from scratch when you advance)
@Bavmorda
@Bavmorda 3 года назад
I mean, you'll eventually need to replace the wheels, as good or bad as they are; you can't just add the whole price of a new set to the price of the skates, when it's just something you'd need to do anyway, couple of months later or sooner.

As for the two pieces bolts, Decathlon opted for making them compatible with the rest of their adult skates instead of other freeskates. Which is a pain for regular skaters like us, but kinda makes sense for a beginner who will do maintenance on Decathlon, and for those who don't have any other skate store at hand. Sorry for the multiple comments, I just love my skates, and the truth is I don't know that I could have afforded any better product (that I would have needed to buy online without testing the fitting on my feet).

@@eastclintwood7153 Out of curiosity, have you heat-molded yours? I did mine, right after taking them out of the box. Never had a problem with heel lock in Next, in fact, it is the best fitting skate I've ever had. I'm size EU42.5, low instep, medium width feet and it was hard to find a shell that won't be oversized or cramp my toes. Using waxed hockey laces, I can skate my Next without a 45 degree buckle. I've replaced it with velcro strap, only to have it as a "backup plan" if laces tear during skating. No heel lift in this boot whatsoever for me. The only other skate to give me comparable experience was RB Fusion, but downsized shell with thinner liner. Funny that you mention FR Skates, because this is one of the skate types that gives me massive heel lift. My low instep and shell cut open wide do not get along. I cannot skate these comfortably even if I tighten the buckle as much as possible. There's way too much room. Goes to show that it is liner and shell combo that gives you a proper heel lock, not liner alone. One boot can work for some while it won't for others.
@eastclintwood7153
@eastclintwood7153 3 года назад
@@kamilciura7953 I ride the FR2 and the heal lock is far superior in comparison to the Next, the difference is night and day, at least for me. The store owner who sold many Next skates told me his customers complain about the heal lift and return the Next by a high number. It is very hard to step in the Next and a hassle to lace them up. The sad thing is that the front part of the skate fits my feet perfectly fine in length and width in size 42-43. I tried to put my FR liner (42) in the Next and that fixed the heal area for me but was a deterioration in the front part of the skate, way too tight in step and even more hassle to lace up. I don't know which skate to buy next because I don't want to look at the FR2 anymore, I now think they are ugly. Our relationship ends.

@@lBurrul cool, thanks! That's really helpful. I've been trying to decide between the 90 and 90 ES and 100 but I'm leaning towards 100. I've got size 44 Oxelos, so I think maybe a larger frame would be better.

Great review as always! Hopefully Decathlon will watch it and improve their Skates accordingly!
@kamilciura7953
@kamilciura7953 3 года назад
They won't. This is open mould contruction, a number of cheap brands is also using the same boot with different buckles and frames. For example: sklep.tempish.pl/kategoria/rolki-freeskate/rolki-tempish-s-r-pro No one will invest in improving a factory-owned mould. As for the other parts - Decathlon is trying to target low pricepoint with profit margin that still makes sense to them. So forget SHR urethane on wheels, for example. Or improved liner, for that matter.
@OnnoKaell
@OnnoKaell 3 года назад
@@kamilciura7953 I hear you , but using an open mold has nothing to do with improving the liner, the wheels and the hardware (screws, nuts & bolts)!
@kamilciura7953
@kamilciura7953 3 года назад
@@OnnoKaell yeah, but this would raise the price. As I've said, their tactics is to out-pricing competition while still making a decent profit on the skates. Liner is also facotry owned design, so improving it makes little sense business wise. Wheels and hardware upgrades would either meant they need to raise the price (losing the biggest advantage compared to mainline brands skates) or diminish their own profit.

if you lose the screw... you are screwed! (badumTSS) I'm not sure about the MF series, but i know that the Fit500 came with a special sized (and really low quality) axles. It was shorter than usual and evben shorter thatn the replacement axles from decathlon.

Super old I know, but you can easily get a screw like that in a hardware store or online. Don't need to buy a skating brand for simple screws.

Quick question about agressive inline skates: What do you think is the best choice for a beginner between the Roces M12 UFS or the Razors Cult all star. What is the right size for me considering I wear 11,5 or 12 shoes. Thanks

I'd go with my usual shoe size (I wear a 38 EU both on shoes and on this skates), but it's always a good idea to measure your feet and follow that measurement; we often wear the wrong shoe size all our lives without noticing, because shoes are more forgiving.

What liner would you consider putting in there/think would fit? I actually roll the Oxello MF500's as my first skate and rather than buying/upgrading the whole skate I was thinking of gradually improving parts. As you said the hard boot is very good, and for a beginner like myself, it gets scratched up. I know the MF900 and MF500 might be marginally different but do you think something like a myfit fatboy of a mysift SPC powerslide would fit in this boot?

@kriscoryn5202
@kriscoryn5202 3 года назад
doesn't matter 4 wheels are more stable so you make more speed 3 wheels are better for turning like tricks in streetskating (the middlewheel help there) but for beginner try on the boots if you can they have to fit perfect first to enjoy the skating long time thats the point where most people stop skating the hurt the feets with bad skateboots ? see ricardo's feet at 18:40

The Decathlon story is the same in all the markets in which they compete: good looking product at an unbeatable price. In my experience, the biggest trade-off is product longevity. It's not how good of a skate that 110€ buys you, but how long you want to skate for 110€. The plastic gets softer quicker, components start to degrade, and all the hardware will wear quick (think like screws constantly popping out of certain Xsjados).

I noticed the same thing with most of their products I have used. Cheap and great if you plan to replace them every other season. Not so great if you plan to keep them for more than that.

I've had a way worse experience with the quality of hardware from dedicated skate brands like Kaltik; I bought a frame from them, and their fancy bolts just melted at the slightest touch with my Allen key. The mf500 boots are keeping up with my mistreatment of them just fine after more than 2 years... And I'm the first one surprised by it, but these skates are a really solid product, and they even have details (like the metal piece where the frame bolts attach to the boot) that you still don't find on a lot of more expensive skates from dedicated brands
