-In 1982, a 33 year tradition began when NBC aired the first ever "Christmas In Washington" special from the National Building Museum in Washington, and featuring musical performances (anchored always by the US Naval Academy Glee Club) and always featuring remarks by the President and First Lady. The specials aired on NBC through the late 90s and on TNT afterwards until they ended following the 2014 program For many like myself they were an annual staple in that they just gave us good Christmas music and also a time when political feelings could be put on hold with a mutual recognition of the meaning of the season. Here is the first of those specials from 1982 featuring Dinah Shore, Debby Boone, Diahann Carroll, Ben Vereen and John Schneider with remarks by President and Mrs. Reagan.

I think the girl in the Atari commercial is the actress who played young Christina in the 1981 movie Mommie Dearest.

I never thought I would ever see this show, and here it is, complete with commercials. Thank you very much for posting it. Do you have the 1983 show with Andy Williams and the one from 1984 with Nell Carter, by any chance? Or the 1988 one with Jimmy Stewart? It was great to see the first show and it was a little different and a bit less polished than the ones that came after it. Much different opening and no herald trumpets. But very enjoyable.

Yes I have those shows. In fact the only one I'm lacking from the first decade is the 1989 show which remains maddeningly elusive in complete form and is the only one from 84-92 I missed taping myself (82 and 83 I found in later years). I won't be uploading new ones until the next Christmas season though when its more appropriate. Absolutely loved this every year when the opening with the Naval Academy Glee Club and the Herald Trumpets was always part of the season for me.

@@epaddon I'll look through my tapes. I may have the 1989 show on tape.

@@jonathan_nc If you do I'd be happy to work out a trade if it can be transferred to DVD or digital. My e-mail just add AOL.com to my user name. All of mine are on DVD. The 1985 one my version was deteriorating on a bad tape so I combined mine with a better quality version on YT that was missing sections so it's complete but in a patched together state.
