On Sunday 10th December 1989, a "Gala Day" was held at Windsor & Eton Riverside station, with various specials operating along the branch line to Staines. Among the motive power seen here, at Riverside and also Sunnymeads, are: Class 73 73106, "Black 5" 44932 (static display), Class 50 50007 "Sir Edward Elgar", London Transport 12 "Sarah Siddons", an unidentified Class 33/1, Class 101 dmu set L832 and various EMUs including the 4-SUB 4732 and 2-BIL 2090.

4SUBs were still in daily use on NSE in 1989 I would imagine?

No, the last of that stock was withdrawn in September 1983!

HAPs worked Reading-Waterloo and Bagshot lines until route was dominated by VEPs and sometimes CIGs. The VEPs occasionally took in the Windsor Riverside line too, but it was usually 455s. There was a preserved SUB, no. 4732.

Really good to see Nr. 12 Sarah Siddons in action - a very rare treat! But why keep the Black 5 in steam although it did no work?

Great open day. They wouldn't allow this nowadays, all the busy bodies would be telling everyone you are not allowed to take photos/H&S red tape everywhere. I expect that Riverside now looks like an overgrown garden like the rest of the rail network today.
