I think not only Duke, but many of these leading NCI-designated research hospitals are not practicing always legitimately in their treatment of patients, and yes, certainly, too as it relates to research trials. The trials themselves are exploitative to both animals and humans because they are described as experimental. There are thousands of these trials in progress annually. Apparently, Duke doesn't really properly analyze their applicants--not only their faculty, but also the patients to be utilized in the study groups. That's careless, and further indicates a certain laxness.
