You just became my favorite game reviewer. Looking forward to see more reviews for you! Really appreciate the effort you put in these videos.

You sum up the game excellently and your critique is sound. I really enjoyed playing this for the first time earlier this month I think it will become a go to filler/ social game for our meet ups. Good idea to reduce the number of cards in higher player count games I think I'll try that, it does become paralysing for the forensic scientist with so much information on the table.

Very high quality video. You're the only one who successfully explained how this game works to me among some other reviewers I checked, great review

Hi Jon, nice review. A few nit picks based on the copy I received from the Kickstarter, the printed rules state that you can interrupt people during their 30 second talk if you are making an accusation. Also the printed rules suggest reducing the number of cards dealt to each player for an easier game or increasing the number for a harder game. I don' t know if non Kickstarter editions have different rules, but if not then the house rules you suggest are actual rules.

Clan McLAN yeah, I agree. It is stated in the Kickstarter AND the Kickstarter rules. I've played many games with 10+ players with 4 cards. With more people it is the witness' job to attract attention to the murderer (without drawing attention to themselves.)

the extension UNDERCOVER ALLIES offers new roles (Protective Detail, Lab Technician and Inside Man) for games up to 14 players, also 1x "Location of Crime" tile and 7x "Scene" tiles, also 90 "Clue" cards and 54 "Means" cards. Love this game in any role. Great video, really good review

Wow, man. pretty neat playthrough/review! just got my copy. I'll play it tomorrow with friends that are not tabletop gamers at all. Watching from Dublin, Ireland. cheers!

hey, it's that guy again who recently left the embarrassingly long compliment. so, full disclosure, I am a manager of a library in addition to my game addiction. In my rural east coast area there was recently a large convention for anime, gaming, sci-fi and fantasy, and I held a tabletop panel, in which I plugged you, the Dice Tower, and the Game Boy geek as being some of the best. I mentioned rahdo runs through it too. Keep it up :-) hope I got you hit 3,000 subscribers soon!

15:00 Your Negative #2 is incorrect. Accusations can literally happen at any time, INCLUDING during someone else's Presentation. (Source: Rulebook section 2a-II, the orange text) "The players are not allowed to interrupt or disturb the player making their Presentation, EXCEPT to make an attempt to 'Solve the Crime'."

Doesn't the rulebook note that alternatively you can add or subtract cards to make the game easier or harder?

Thanks for the review. In the English translation, there are some words missing. The last sentence in the paragraph Solving the Crime (P.4) should be: Important: If you do not make an attempt to solve the crime before the last player finishes their third and final Presentation, you will lose your chance to do so. Use it. Don't lost it.

Well done review. While I lurve social deduction games, I still liked this review. Also, maybe the reason they don't hive down the amount of evidence and murder weapon cards is some even tiles naturally hive down these cards.

I just ordered this game after a DiceTower Video, thanks for present your opinion. Maybe we will try it on Sylvester with 11 people (to prevent playing Werewolf again ^^) I think using 80 Cards is part of the fun :D Who said that solving a crime is easy? If you are confused by the cards and hints, play the social aspect of the game and try to read the people. The rule I had read said 3 cards each player is the 'easy' mode for the investigators. Does it matter which card is a weapon and which card is the evedence? As a forensic Scientist I would use the tools that creat the better story in investigators imagination. Thanks for your Review and rules. Did you mention the phases in which all people can freely discuss (all the time except in the presentation-phase). The 30s for each Player is just a tool, to get everybody to talk. Sometime the murder/werewolf or a shy person does not talk much. At that moment you could and have to talk without getting interrupted. Maybe I will add a houserule: The person who is presenting stands up to do the presentation (to make theire presentation-phase stronger). At that moment you are only allowed to interrupt if want to use your 'Solve the case'-chance. I like the option to put the Gamemaster/Ghost/Forensic-Scientist to a random player, but your hint to chose before starting to play is also an option and should be a static variant to this game.

how would you compare this to Mysterium?
@JonGetsGames
@JonGetsGames 7 лет назад
They both have a collective deduction discussion mind set, but obviously having a traitor mechanism makes Deception: Murder in Hong Kong feel pretty different. The puzzles seem more complicated and interesting Mysterium as well since there are so many of them compared to just 3 in Deception.
@aaronbarker5713
@aaronbarker5713 6 лет назад
I've seen this tagged as a mysterium killer. In my opinion it's more of an apples and oranges comparison. Both games are great and have thier correct time to break them out.

+Brian Benedict I didn't realize this until after I'd posted it and people mentioned it. My current process for choosing games to review is I do the ones I've played (usually) recently and enough times to have a good opinion of it. Sometime they will be more mainstream, and sometimes I guess they will be OOP by the time I get to them, sorry :(
