Are fireworks really as noisy as they seem? Join us on a fascinating journey as we explore the explosive sounds that light up our skies. In a recent parliamentary bill, the demand to reduce firework noise from 120 decibels to 90 decibels sparked my interest in delving deeper into this matter. But how does this measure up against the everyday sounds we encounter in our homes and streets across the UK?
In our latest video, we take on the challenge of comparing the bursts of fireworks to the buzz of a lawnmower, kettle, recycle bin, shotgun, power tools, and hairdryer. We'll uncover surprising truths about the noise levels that surround us daily.

Just subscribed to your channel. Fantastic video and points you made! I live in Montana, U.S., and while things have come a long way regarding the quality and increased noise levels of fireworks - namely shells and cakes - we're still subjected to report powder limits. There was a time where canister shells were on the chopping block because officials were complaining that the noise level exceeded what supposedly the legal amount of flash powder would produce. It took some convincing that the charge needed to break the shells was what amounted to the satisfying "boom", not necessarily any flash-based break charge, not to mention the complete subjectivity to their assessment! I do envy you blokes with these Gigant rockets among other aerial displays!! It's no wonder everyone (well, mostly everyone except the "whingers") loves loud fireworks over there. You have some excellent items available to the public, and I hope it continues that way!

Great video! Well needed one at that to! But should have included a test with microphone next to a firing low noise firework because thump that’s created from the launch powder is loud also. Roll on August sale 😂

Yes, in low noise multishot fireworks, it's not the effect that makes the sound, it's just the launch charge that makes a sound, which is needed to blast the effects out of the tubes into the sky, otherwise they'd merely flowerpot upwards and outward, like a mine effect just a few feet above the ground, and this naturally gets louder, with the bigger bore size of tubes within the firework. Nothing can be done about that.

Thanks for this video man!!! Have been searching for a video like this for years!!! Did something similar quite a while back and realised these fireworks are not loud, and still can't figure out what's being regulated hahaha and some of these politicians don't know their ar**hole from their elbow, let's get to 120db first ai, even in city centres and built up areas with greater reverb bouncing of walls makes no major difference in db. These regulators need to learn about about sound dispersion, humidity etc being the things that affect sound waves. AHH imagine an actual 120db firework...... Have a good one dude, thanks again 👍

What an interesting, and informative video Wayne. I think the main issue here, is the small minority of people, that misuse fireworks ( like the old saying goes....it only takes a couple of rotten apples, to spoil the barrel ) and although i know, you can leagally let off fireworks at any time of year, the times in the evening....very late at night, for example, that some choose to do it, can be a problem. The exception would be new year of course. And even when i do my displays, i always notify the neighbours, by printing out notes, going around, and telling them, the address, day, time, and to keep any pets indoors, during this time. Common courtesy, is all it takes! Now, i have to go and mow that lawn😂.

Another brilliant video wayne and it'll be a real shame if they reduce the decibels in fireworks to 90 decibels. As you know i put on a display for our community and it's paid for by mostly myself and a couple of mates and it's free. I'm going to ask people this year to donate some money for charity and it's entirely up to them if they want to donate some money. Love the dog and he'd get along nicely with our jem jems and bonny, which you've seen in my daft WhatsApp videos 😂😂😂😂. Have a great bank holiday pal and i look forward to seeing the next video pal.

I wonder if you lit the fireworks in the housing estate you mentioned or a built up terraced area what the results would be , even if you used 8 m safety fireworks .

As long as you don't go after 11pm out of season and be courteous to your neighbours, and preferably let them know you're having fireworks out of season, which might reduce complaints, and be reasonable about it, there's no reason why you can't have fireworks anytime of the year. In country areas, I can see why low noise fireworks might be more appropriate ie loud bangs and screeches inducing the risk of spooking farm animals sheep horses cattle etc being frightened with the noises, and in that sort of situation for a private or public display, I can see the reasoning behind this.

The permitted noise level for UK consumer fireworks is 120dB(A). What this complainant MP from Bradford West Yorkshire fails to realise that, even if you took all the whistles crackles and bangs out of UK consumer fireworks, you'd still get some sort of sound, because there is no such thing as a totally silent firework, there just isn't - launch thumps from fountain start mines shot tubes roman candles cakes barrages multishot roman batteries compound cakes and large single ignition boxes that get naturally louder the bigger the bore tube size, fizzing roaring and spluttering from fountains, fizzes from wheels, roars from bengal flames and phuts from strobes, and low noise bursts from rockets like pops / phuts, along with small launch / burst noises from low noise starburst cakes. If you use a lot of loud fireworks within a display, especially with flash reports and screeches as you get in 1.3g classification fireworks, it is advisable for firers doing the display to wear ear defenders or earplugs, and this is mentioned in the free downloadable guide, Giving Your Own Firework Display, and the requirement to wear suitable ppe while putting on a public or semi public fireworks display is often requested and par for the course for public display organisers in risk assessments provided by organisations councils and local authorities to hold such events. PS love the dog by the way it's so cute❤❤❤

Question: Does anyone know of a Bluetooth speaker that can match the 175 deciples of fireworks? I live in the US. The weeks surrounding July 4th there are fireworks every night for hours. I live in a semi rural area. I have horses and dogs that are absolutely terrified of the fireworks. Last year my horse fell and was seriously injured. My neighbors do not care that their fun is harmful to others. I've asked them to please tell me which nights they are doing fireworks so I can give sedative drugs to my animals. But they don't bother to tell me or stick to the day or times they said. (Last year they started 3 hours before dark). The vet says the drugs aren't safe for daily use.. trying to come up with ideas of how to manage and keep my animals safe. Back to my question, trying to find a speaker that I can use to drown out the fireworks, also going to try playing fireworks at low levels and increasing the next month to attempt to get the animals use to the noise.. I run fans, I bought earplugs for horses, and play loud music, I'll be hanging tarps on barn to block the firework flashes, I've put pool noodles on ceiling rafters to try to cushon so they don't split open their heads if they rear up. I've changed my work schedule for the next few months to accommodate the situation. If anyone knows of a Bluetooth speaker, I would appreciate it. I think that's my best option since my neighbors fun is more important that my families health and wellbeing. (My anxiety is already so bad dreading the possible injuries). 😖😖

You should send these videos to that stupid woman and the Government to prove just how ridiculous this proposed law is, i know of many everyday things that are louder than fireworks, as an experiment it would be interesting to see how loud a professional shell is at height as i bet even those don't register 120 db.
@BlueSteel331
@BlueSteel331 5 месяцев назад
If the law gets changed to 90db the manufacturers will have to also allow a 'safety margin,' which means fireworks will effectively be around 70db....if this happens it will have a serious detrimental effect on the entire firework retail industry, but no doubt this is exactly what the anti-firework mob's agenda is.
