Creating a great photo is all about timing. The decisive moment is when the time of day is right, your composition is good, and you press the shutter button when the action is just right.
In this episode, Mark Wallace walks us through the process of planning and executing the decisive moment. Mark uses real examples from his time in Zambia and Paris, France.

Great video. Something caught my attention that may be a useful topic for a future video. When you captured a landscape with the sun low, the color balance wasn’t what your eye was seeing. You adjusted the color or white balance. Maybe a video about how Auto WB can be deceived in the golden hour to give the image bland color and where to set WB?

Thanks, Mariano. I planned to be in South America all year, so it's just a bit of a longer stop in BA than expected. Argentina is terrific, so it's a pretty good place to be during all of this chaos.

Mark, I like you work, however have to point at Henri Cartier-Bresson. His work was totally dependent on "The Decisive Moment" and that was the title of one of his books. (born August 22, 1908 in Chanteloup-en-Brie, France and passed August 3, 2004, in Céreste, France) [wiki:] French humanist photographer considered a master of candid photography, and an early user of 35 mm film. He pioneered the genre of street photography, and viewed photography as capturing a decisive moment. Cartier-Bresson was one of the founding members of Magnum Photos in 1947.

Yep. All of the tips in this video are from his writings and interviews. I posted some of those quotes in response to other comments on this video.

Im not a big fan of knowing the precise settings of a photograph but i wonder how the sunset scene was taken so sharp... with f stop if im not wrong nearing 20s...

I don't really know what it was. The Leica M doesn't record aperture data in EXIF (because there are no electronics in the lenses). But I usually shoot around f/8 with my 35mm lens. I'm almost certain is was f/8.

I used a Leica 35mm f/2 SUMMICRON-M Aspherical lens. It's incredibly sharp across the board. Leica glass is amazing. www.adorama.com/lc352mub.html?KBID=65140

This is the difference between a professional photographer and an amateur.
