As far as the video flow itself I liked how you sped up going through the boxes and paused for info about your process. Also love your family and how much everybody pitched in, obviously you did most of it but still having the kids do some is a great lesson for them. Way to go lady!
Our whole basement is filled stuff from over 30 years ago to present time. This is the perfect video for some motivation. My parents and I are going to clean the basement in a few days.
Over the last several months, I have been going through the stuff in my basement, but not steadily. I have gotten rid of a TON of stuff, but in the course of getting things out to sort through them, the basement looks more cluttered than ever! I am continuing to persevere, however. This past week was the "great paper declutter", which I am still working on, as I find random files and papers to put away. I just wish my progress was more immediately gratifying. Thank you for sharing your video. It helped give me the "kick in the pants" I needed for today, so I could make a little more progress.
That is a major undertaking! We are in the process of purging and decluttering a building we have out back that is actually like a mother in law suite. It's been a on going process. We had to put things out there bc we redid our garage and made it living space now my husband is halfway done with building a new building out back for storage and car equipment and yard equipment. So now I am in the process of going through EVERYTHING! I am labeling and switching out for new bins bc some are bent or broke. I do not have a problem getting rid of things. I am keeping bare minimum!
Early this summer, my boyfriend and I tackled our two storage places. Got rid of so much! It was such a nice feeling finally going through it and organizing it. With a big family, i can only imagine how out of hand things can get in your house!
I live in Australia and storage rooms are not usually built into our homes. The best we usually hope for is a good sized linen cupboard. That said I want a storage room - I'm making a list of stuff we own that could go in there ....then it struck me this is another area to keep tidy and sort out. Going forward i have hope to store heaps of the stuff we use, I like your big containers, a cupboard to keep kid's stuff in, and i'm planning some shelf units to use more vertical space with some smaller containers. Thanks for showing this room xox
We have started our konmari declutter journey... I told my husband it feels like the house is from the cartoons about to burst... Now that we are 1/4 of the way done it feels like it is letting its breath out... Thank you for all the inspiration...
Joanna, been following your decluttering videos for 18 months now and loved seeing the dent u made on this one. I'm so glad i found this because my study/craft room/ third bedroom has become my hoarding room for xmas presents and EVERYTHING else. I really need to tackle this weekend.
I loved your video, I enjoy these kinds of videos. We cleaned out the storage room in the garage 2 years ago in spring. My husband built floor to ceiling pantry and storage shelves, and I recently decluttered some of the house. I really need to load that stuff up and donate it
My spare room was once a tidy and functional office when I worked from home. It is now a laundry drying/ironing and junk room for everything I can't decide what to do with. I've decluttered my kitchen (mostly, only one pantry to go) and bathroom, my bedroom has never been cluttered and my clothes fit into the storage space I have for them... but the spare room is the beast I keep gearing up to tackle then putting off, tackling any other project instead. I need to just drag everything out of there and do it.
My house is 980 square feet, I don’t have room to store anything we aren’t using, but this seriously motivated me to find something to organize!! I just found your channel!
Watching this to get ideas on how to start decluttering our basement. I loved the little cabinet. We want to turn half of it into a basement bar and the other half storage.
Great job! i just started mine yesterday. I kinda did a rage purge first (a week ago) cause i was mad about it (look at the messy minimalist you tube she's hysterical) and then got down to the nitty gritty. It makes my brain and well being feel so much better. Less to clean and stress about
Well my father in law passed away and we are in the process of buying his house and we have been cleaning it for months (1st and 2nd story of the home). He was a “collector”, He has over 5000 records, over 5000 old car magazines, 12 cars from 1930-1950, tons of old cologne bottle, and a crap ton of other stuff. He collected almost everything. I know some people would call that a hoarder but he didn’t keep trash it’s all worth money and everything is in boxes. So we have a basement that’s about 1000 sf that we have to clean and it’s filled with stuff from the floor to the ceiling. U can’t walk around anything! I don’t even know how we are going to pull stuff out and go thru it, we will probably have to take stuff up stairs just to be able to go thru it. I’m just trying to get myself prepared lol.
This just depresses me.... that even in a home so large we still need storage for boxes and boxes of things. I live in a 2 bedroom apartment with 3 kids. We have a lot less than is in your storage room but it still drives me NUTS! I love your videos though, please do a daily routine talk through one day xxx
Loved this video!! We all have that one place in our home that is the catch all for extra stuff. Our is in the guest room...but we are making progress, it just takes time. Thanks for sharing your family's story!! ❤
I love these videos! We don’t have a storage room, so every cupboard in our house is cluttered. 😂🤷🏻♀️ I’m slowly working on room by room, removing things we no longer need :)
I do have a storage room which is in desperate need of decluttering. I always say I'm going to do it and don't. It's the one thing resting heavy on my shoulders. Maybe this holiday season. My motto is just do it. I need to listen to myself :)
Ugh my notifications were off I just saw this new video and thought “how could this happen?!” 🤣 I love your decluttering videos ! yay for a new video !!
You may laugh... but if you keep the cabinet in good condition over the years as your son grows you can move it and his collectibles in his home or apt. he can eve use the space for music and /or computer wiring . whatever you do don't declutter toys that can be brought from childhood into teenage years. let him do it himself. as time passes his stuff will eventually fit one cabinet shelf. plus game consoles and so on changes as we all grow up. he will end up .especially around 16 years old. it's a high school phaze or use for books and storage for college books. my mother did this with my brother. she changed his toy bin for a bookshelf/ or media . he kept it all the way til adult hood and moved it in withh his girfriend 10 years ago when he was in his late 20's .
Started adult life with a mattress and a bookcase, now we have a combined storage area of 4,000 sf and its killing us. Got rid or 3 cu. yd. of junk last week, this and next week 6 more cu. yd. Its getting easier with the help of a trash compactor and band saw to dispose all the non essential junks plus a few donation runs. I was making fun of a friend I was helping to get rid of his stuff in couple of paid storage spaces he had over the years then I realized I was much worse. The cost of storage was much more expensive than what was stored.
I started going through our storage pile in our basement that we hadn't touched since we first moved into our house two years ago. And a lot of the boxes were empty moving boxes or half full of stuff that could be donated! I couldn't believe it 🤦
This has nothing to do with KonMari though. In fact, it's exactly what Marie Kondo tells not to do: searching for things to donate/throw away and going one area/one box at a time. It's a nice decluttering video, but calling it Konmari is misleading.
At 5.35 there was a Halloween pumpkin basket thing with “Michael Venditti” written on it. Was that Mike’s when he was little? So cute! Absolutely love your decluttering videos. I’m also eagerly waiting for the next mudroom update. 🙂
I have attic spaces... 3 to be exact. And they really need decluttering. However, I am in the process of moving a rearranging our house a bit. I am combining my office with my baking supplies so we can make room for a future nursery. But that is a hurg project. I have been thinking about starting a youtube channel and wanted to knwo what kind of video editing software you use. I love watching your videos. They are very motivating and inspirering. Thank you!
laura lopez nope! Mudroom is paused, but we have been working hard on our laundry room and games area in our basement! I will show you soon. Mudroom will be 2019
My whole house is a storage room that needs to be declutered😱lol i alsp have a shed and outside porch and storage unit if we still own it. Quite a bit to go through.
Nasa I don’t want to argue but I asked her that question for a certain reason, it seemed like a waste of time to transfer and on top of that earthy me just thought great another trash bag that harms my habitat. Like I voiced my concerns, thanks for your opinion.
Yes, some of the dog things were reused for Oliver, some donated, and some were in bad shape and had to be trashed. The open products couldn't be donated. And no, I'm never sad to donate lots of clothes, if just some of our items go to somebody who needs it, I'm happy.
