It’s amazing how much of a difference it makes when you actually place them open & next to each other! You had 4 TOTALLY different brands that had probably 10-12 shades that were almost exactly the same! I think that says a lot about how much cosmetics companies see one palette doing fantastically, so in turn, they do a palette with some of the same shades, and it trickles all the way down to drugstore brands! Nate Berkus is one of my all time favorite designers, & his motto is that, “Each room in your home should rise up to meet you.” Simply meaning, it only contains the things that you love, not things you have purchased just to fill it up. Every item should give you joy, just as you said! You found the one thing that brings you pure joy & set everything else against it! Now, there is no way everything is going to carry the same weight!! Yet things you love should give you a light feeling! Throw the stones out so you can stand tall as your house rises up to you! Much love! 🤗💜😘

I recommend keeping the empty Makeup Geek palette and filling it up with single shadows you want to use. I make a little custom palette for myself each month and put it in my everyday makeup drawer and I use my single shadows so much more when they're more curated rather than in the overwhelmingly large palettes. Just a thought!

Right! I finally decluttered my ABH modern renaissance after holding onto it for so long because it was a gift from my boyfriend for our 5 year anniversary it held so much sentimental value to me, BUT I hated the formula I would force myself to wear it and I didn’t love the colors. It felt amazing to finally let it go!

Wendy Kuma I actually got a little pissy during her last palette declutter and stopped watching because she kept the naked palettes because it seemed like she was keeping them for the wrong reasons. I know it's a little silly but it bugs me when people keep palettes for status reasons as opposed to actually using them (beyond the occasional semential value of course).

Susie Gingerich I agree 100% it aggravates me to no end when I watch them and they get rid of one or two products and it's always the drugstore products. I see no point in having 65 foundations and 300 lippies. They expire! Then all that money wasted!

Yesssssssssss, be ruthless, Jess!! I'm honestly so happy to see you come back and say to yourself, "You know what? I was holding back before." Good on you to finally pass on those Naked palettes. You've had them a long time, and your tastes have changed over the years. None of us should feel like we NEED to keep something "just because." And honestly, since you're a RU-vidr, your personal collection can be a separate part of what you review for us. We, your viewers, aren't entitled to know how much of what you buy/are sent end up being something you keep after you've filmed your review. I think of these declutters as something nice and motivational that you share with us. I like seeing you be more and more honest and ruthless with yourself these last few declutter videos.

I don't know how Jess feels about it but I really wish people would stop blaming these ruthless declutters on her pregnancy. She said her system and having this much makeup has not been working for her for a long time and that she's already so much happier with her new setup. Is she nesting? Maybe. Is it okay for people to tell her that her actions are solely based on her hormones? Not really. If she is nesting, it's not our place to all point fingers and assume we know what's going on just because she happens to be pregnant. I know people aren't saying it with bad intentions but this is equivalent to saying a woman is in a bad mood so maybe she's on her period.

That's how I feel about it too. And it's not about if they're right or not, it's just about the insensitivity of blaming a woman's hormones for something. It irks me that people are even saying she'll regret it when the hormones calm down.

Why are you making the judgment that nesting is a bad thing? Nesting is an instinctive behavior that came about by natural selection to increase the chance of survival for women in late pregnancy and their babies. You would be foolish not to take advantage of this superhuman trait while you can.

I was a little shocked when I saw her get rid of the shade and light. I have a whole singles palette of mattes I've picked and curated for myself; and I STILL have and love my shade and light palette! I wish I could be as cut throat with my eye shadows... That's the one category that I fail at every time.

I decluttered my naked 3 a few years ago. I had a gift card and bought it when it was just released and fell into the hype. I swatched it more than I ever wore it. People called me crazy for getting rid of it,but I never even think about it until I see declutter videos. Proud of you for being so cut throat and only keeping what you truly love! 💕💕

One of the most beautiful things about the beauty community, makeup artistry in general is that it brings us together, but in a unique way. Like for example, I NEVER declutter. Or very rarely. I like collecting and having a lot of makeup! There, I said it! lol. It brings me joy to see where I started, etc. and it’s fun to remember the hype around certain things, etc. I also feel like in general I don’t buy every single new thing that comes out. Often I’m like “no. I have zero interest in that”. So maybe in a way I declutter before I even buy anything lol. But like the Clover palette, you were like “eh”, and that thing brings me SO much joy! The packaging, the shadow placement, etc. and the Soft Glam I’m like “eh”. It’s so neat to be able to express ourselves in this artistic way, and have so many other people that share this love, but other products speak to them vs. what speaks to me, etc. anyway! Great video! (Now that I’ve gone on and on for 10 minutes)

This is my absolute FAV declutter video of all times. Why? When I watch RU-vidrs talk about "cut throat declutters" but still keep sooo much I actually cringe and want to yell at my screen for many reasons. I have really enjoyed watching your recent declutters! It's so nice to see a youtuber that is being both realistic, but still doing their job. In everyday life, not a lot of people have that much makeup because it's unreasonable that you can't use all of it. It's so refreshing that you're truly only keeping what you love, and getting rid of the things that you don't need. It also helps us to know that those few products that you keep are the best.

I have recently embarked on a minimalism journey and this is very satisfying for me to watch. I have decluttered so much of my home from my kitchen to my bedroom. It is in fact painful to watch but at the same time it is amazing to see your method, I think it is better to buy something you truly love and will use, not something that will sit on your vanity. I looooove eyeshadow palettes but I think for a while before I make a purchase, I try to find in my own collection the shades that I like in new palette realeases, it is like a game to me. Better to have things you truly care about, love and appretiate than having many things accumulating dust. Quality over quantity :D

It seems like you’re really getting bored of your current collection, which is kind of understandable for RU-vidrs since you guys are pressured to have such huge collections. It’s kinda disappointing to see you get rid of stuff you previously recommended, but at the same time it’s cool to see what you truly do use and love. It’s definitely a reality check for those of us who follow RU-vidrs and listen to their recommendations; obviously there’s just no way you guys can reach for every single item in your collections all the time! So how much do recommendations really mean when in the end you’re still reaching for the same stuff you actually love? I think it’s a good call for us consumers to reflect on how much we buy based on recommendations too, for sure.

For example she’s not a colorful palette kinda person but she stated the eyeshadows in the clover palette blend well and are pigmented SO someone who likes or wants colorful palettes this is helpful.

Your Huda beauty has condensation on the mirror. Mine did so I scrapped out the Cosmo shade and the pan was all rusted.

this is the first declutter that I find painful to watch. Maybe because you were so determined to get rid of them, I was like "nooo, jess, how can you declutter that one?" Many of those palettes I really like or would like to have, maybe that's another reason why

luvinamyst I got both and I can tell you I love the abh soft glam hundreds more! The way the colours blend in each other is wayyyyyyy easier and after you blend you can still notice the degrading of the colours while whith the tarte it was harder for ME (of course others can have different opinions and experiences) to blend and the colours after blended seemed to be just one... hope it made sense... again this is my experience! I love so much to play with the colours and textures in the soft glam that I am thinking of getting the modern renaissance because the eyeshadows are amazing to work with. I almost forget that I have so little experience in creating beautiful eyeshadow looks

You’ve definitely had a switch in mentality towards makeup. I feel like it may be because you’re mentally and physically preparing for room for baby in your life. Becoming a Mom changes a person so much. Becoming a dad has changed my husband a lot but he’s still hoarding his comic books that he never looks at lol

Omg Jess u were really cut throat wow! I own all them pallets except the viseart, clover, and that Natasha Denona. I do have the Natasha Dennona sunset I believe it’s called and the lilac one. U would think i remember huh? But guess what Jess....I don’t reach for them hardly I’m bad. I just made a lot of my coworkers happy I took soo many pallets and I gave them away. I know their being loved. And also to my nieces. My mother I gave her a couple but she won’t use them maybe once in a big while. I felt good giving them away. It hurt cuz I bought them with my hard earned money. I do fine, money wise. Ur I’m not def rich by any means. But the satisfaction and knowing I was gonna make a lot of girls happy is worth it. I’m not a RU-vidr I shouldn’t have so many. U are so u do have a legit excuse. For reviews, for subs asking for a look or GRWM with a certain pallete. Anyhow sorry for such long txt. I feel guilty. Awh, when I first started watching RU-vid, you were the first person I ever watched. You were the reason I bought my first ever palette which was the Sweet Peach palette because you used to love it so much! Such a bittersweet moment watching you let it go! A side note though, my makeup collection has also grown and your curating videos made me realize that I should let some of my makeup go to someone that will use them! I have found new palettes lately that I love, and I haven’t paid much attention to my others. So thank you for everything 😊❤️

Love your videos and this "curating series" is at the top of my list. You've inspired me to curate as I watch, so here I am making piles as well. This process helps me to re-acquaint myself with past loves that have gotten lost in the mix. I think passing products on to others, whether they are friends, family, co-workers, or women's shelters is very commendable.
