Yesss the stuff at the beginning is so important to say! I made a spine for my Doc Ock cosplay that I was SUPER proud of, and all folks could ask was 'WHEN ARE YOU MAKING THE ARMS?' Never! Doing as much or as little as you want to for a cosplay is totally fine!
Haha, reminds me of myself. I want to make every part of my Mandalorian costume sublime, but it takes so much time and energy that I can't finish all before an event starts. Then i just wear the costume as is and then ignore my perfectisme for that moment. When you see others pointing at you a making big smiles you forget about the feeling your costume is not good enough. For most of the audience they don't even notice the costume is not finished. Learning so many skills for the first time is quite overwhelming but taking things easy and not hasting yourself makes it so much bearable.
Yesssssss to all of this! I have those perfectionist tendencies with my costumes where in my head I want to make it as perfect as possible and there always comes a time working on pieces where I'll go ... this is good enough lol. If I tried to make everything perfect I'd never have finished a costume, and it's so true about showing off our stuff as well. Since we're always so up close and personal with our costumes, it can be tough to step back and look at the costume as a whole and appreciate that!
My Dad made me whistle when I got him a beer to ensure I wasn't stealing a few sips. I still whistle every time I reach for a beer decades later. I also love weird Al and don't know what's in my hoard of supplies. I think your thoughts on things, cosplay related or not, speak to a lot of us. Keep sharing.
Thank you so much Laura, especially for your last statement. I won't lie, the past couple months have been rough with not wanting to make stuff/general stress over the state of our house lol ... but comments like this remind me why I do what I do. Also I love that story about your dad. Thank you :)
Organizing my print space is the hardest thing for me to do. Even throwing away parts that don't fit is tough. My 13 yr old daughter was a Fennec for Halloween.
it really is tough! I cut out a lot of the hemming and hawing over some pieces but it really does suck going through old stuff you were so excited for in the beginning
Sorry for such a late reply but omg!! I’m still so happy that you like the helmet!! I had a blast making it and it’s my thank you for everything you do for the community!! Enjoy!
Great progress! My goal in in January to get my space organized like you are. What Alex Draw is that ? I think that would help house a lot of my paints, and greebles I have in small boxes every where.
Thanks! It's the 9 Drawer Alex (www.ikea.com/us/en/p/alex-drawer-unit-with-9-drawers-white-90486139/) it was actually a last minute decision because I originally had a larger Kallax but it blocked the light switch lol
LOVE WEIRD AL! We've seen him I wanna say six times or so? Glad we sprung for the meet and greet this go around, always a good show and such a good human!! Was Daniel Radcliff at the Carnegie Hall show? I thought I heard that he showed up for that
@@vaultfox he was! He came in during the first song and kept his hat real low and a mask the whole time. Still instantly recognizable. I also got a selfie with Questlove, though he didn't know it. I just hit show 42
Space is looking great, well done!! Feels so much brighter than the old space. I am sure you need a holiday to Australia so want to come and do mine?? ;)
thank you so much! and yeah it's been (and continues to be) a huge project getting things situated aaaaaand listen, I would LOVE to get over to Australia one day!!!
thank you SO much for your donation! I'm hoping next year I can have this giveaway squared away a bit sooner so I can have it available internationally!
Will some of the stuff you are gonna not finish be donated/ sold so you can have funds to charity etc as well? I'd also say don't just throw stuff in the trash, I'd say donate them to places to keep them out of the landfill. Instead of just throwing them in the trash. I'm sure good will would love that fabric scraps. Or donation boxes. I always try and donate to good will, savers etc or thrift stores. The give away sounds so cool especially giving back to where you got the pooch 😍
So at what point do you let go of raw materiasl for a costume? I have a really hard time letting go of fabric especially because I feel like I could use it, even if just for a mock up. And who knows...maybe I will build that Ventress costume one day haha.
it depends, especially because I like to work on say ... a 3D printing heavy costume and then switch to a sewing heavy costume, because I crave variety and working with the same materials over and over tends to bore me, which is why I think I just have so much stuff laying around. I realized that I work best when I have a few projects going at once with different mediums, but through this declutter recognized I had TOO many projects floating around both in my head and the actual physical pieces of those projects and had to let go of the ones I wasn't super crazy on anymore (like Fennec and The Armorer, I am just not feeling working on 3D prints right now) whereas I've kept stuff for 2 years (like my Tali cosplay) because I just know it's simply a matter of knowing I have to be in the mood for a sewing intensive costume.
Hehe, at some point just share it with fellow cosplayers. They might have stuff u can use in the near future and you can have stuff they can use. If u have a nearby cloth store just buy smaller pieces so they can keep your giant storage while you only take the pieces you need at that moment.
we just started a whole house reno. obviously its gonna take away from my time that i use to make content. How did you, if you did, accept that you had to give up making some content to take care of real life stuff cause im finding it to be a bit stressful.
funny you say "how did you, if you did, accept that" because I don't think I ever truly did accept it. while I don't think I ever accepted it, I did take a step back from certain platforms (like instagram + tiktok) in order to give myself the time to make videos, but even then I'm not making nearly as many videos as usual. I could def put together a video on my struggles/experiences with this though!
the HOPE is to keep them in the garage if we can find a place for them, I have really been liking not having the noise down here and want to keep that going if possible. if not, they'll probably live beside a larger wardrobe I have down here
