Keep in mind that cockatiels need at least 12 hours of sleep everyday. So you don't need to stress over your cockatiel being lazy for a portion of the day
Mine sleep according to sunset & sunrise. Summer they go quiet around 8pm and wake around 5am. That's 9 hours night time and any snoozes during the day. Which matches the wild bird cycle. Winter and the nights are longer but they still wake at the first crack of light.
This has been debunked and they dont sleep the entire time. Usually 8 hrs, sunset to sunrise, is plenty. They do tend to take mid day naps naturally. The real issue with sleep is making sure they arent distrubed while sleeping as they are very sensitive and can wake up easily being prey animals.
Our cockatiel puffs up when he is relaxing and wanting a nap or napping :) So it depends, I don’t think being puffy is always a sign of stress. On the other hand, when he was sick, he also puffed up and slept a lot… So it seems like both sleeping(relaxing) and/or being stressed could correlate with puffiness
Actually most of the time if cockatiel bobs their head it means 2 things one is they are telling you to come close or they are trying to go to somewhere or to you sometimes it means they will fly to where they want to go
my bird sits at the bottom of the cage but when we took her to the vet she’s fine so idk why she does it? i mean she talks to the faces on the newspaper but other than that idk why?
Ok let me clear one thing up one of the signs of sickness was looking around to sit it was like that now it got some people thinking that their birds are sick no that aren’t sometimes this happens in friendly males like mine cuz their much more energetic and their friendly they’ll wait for you at the cage oftheir doors this happens to Maine and don’t worry they just want to play as their friendly and their energetic
Just means he's cranky..they get hormonal especially when they molt. They will snap and hiss to show they are annoyed, but wont actually bite because he's not frightened and doesn't really want to hurt you
pls explain this behaviour of my cockateil - He constantly makes hissing sounds and do not whistle more oftenly. is this because he is alone in his cage?
I have an extremely aggressive cockatiel, his name is Peter and he cannot mate properly with his girlfriend winter and will physically harm her if the eggs don't hatch, as well as being abusive literally everyday but having separation anxiety when they are apart. I have tried to bond with him in hopes if could ease his focus off of winter. The only problem with this is he's a relatively smart bird, he can bite and it hurts and I get a bit scared sometimes, he can sing and has copied some o my sounds but I haven't gotten much further with my cranky boi.
One time my cocktail was drinking water then he started sneezing and then he coughed some gooey white thing I didn’t touch it but it looked so gross and I want to know what it is if you know tell me please
just have a doubt. My cockatiel does preening very frequently, is it itching sensation or its just natural to do? and my cockatiel sleeps less than 11 hrs per day but still i dont see any problem occuring
I’m on the way to get another bird but they don’t have males left so they have the ones that are unknown gender so please can someone explain how I can identify
Sometimes they shiver what does it mean? I assumed they might be cold or sick, but then they act normal, so what could it possibly mean for birds to shiver?
This is amazing I just don’t believe it now I know how to know how my parents at and what it saying to me. This is the Jess it’s just it’s just the deal Dy been looking for. Thank you.😮😂❤🎉
Our cocktail is extremely aggressive when we approach his cage. He doesn't like us cleaning the cage or changing his food and water. And we can't touch him he goes ballistic if we even try to touch him. He's about 12 years old now and he's always been this way. He used to sing but not anymore.
My cockatiels don't really like me and seem to consider me a stressor. They eat (but my GOSH they are picky, can anyone give me ideas about what they might like also if they like baby spinach? I'm running out of options.) and sometimes they come out, fly a few rounds on my room, sit on the top of the furniture and when they are hungry they return to their cage. I'm wondering if one of them is despressed however. She is not as active as her male friend and sometimes sits puffed up, but she eats well, her droppings seem fine and they already had an antibiotic treatment when they got here (my parents purchased them from a store and they got here sick.) Can I help her some way? Also, they never even touched their toys. I have a feeling that my poor babies are bored. Can I help them somehow?
My cockatiel bites whenever he doesn’t want to get out of his cage, get off of the windowsill, or get off of me. He also makes a little screech noise too.
I have a cocktail bird, he mostly lunging , biting and puffing up his feathers! Also he doesn't sing, I just heard his voice twice in a month. I don't understand him. What is going on with him, What to do with him??? Please help 💛
Only male cocktails sing, if they have a partner or consider you one. My father has 4 cocktails and everyone of them are angry or scared of me, but with him they seem happy although he doesn't touch them. Maybe give him some space and let her go out of the cage and be alone or with you but with distance. Time and patience.
I don't what happened to my cockatiel he is shaking his head again and again like jerked his neck i dont know what is this if anybody know pls tell me??????
