Take out that hot water heater and put in a tankless water heater saves space will not be a eye sore in your new laundry room . Just a suggestion.

I hope you like the laminate. You could always check online to see if there are any stores in your area that sell quartz or granite and then call to find out if they have pieces left from slabs or damage pieces that they would give you for a lot less and you have the damaged parts cut off. You could use granite tiles. Because you only need a small piece, that's the only route to go with out spending a ridiculous amount of money. There's a product called quartzite that looks good too. They even have porcelain that looks like marble or granite that looks good. Granite has to be sealed every 6-12 months. Marble is a whole other nightmare. I have a feeling you are going to second guess that laminate like you did the kitchen backsplash tile...
