Back with my decorating glossary, this time for woodwork paints! I was keen to cover this as when I’m working in our store it’s some of the terminology that’s mixed up most!
Usually after chatting to our customers we get to the root of what you’re actually looking for but I thought it was important for anyone shopping online or without the face to face chat to have the detail on what you’re looking for!
3 main finishes are used in woodwork paint (although requests for a matt finish are increasingly popular so I covered this in another reel last week!
Gloss is something you will have all heard off before I’m sure. The highest sheen level of the woodwork finishes at about 80% (although generally water based gloss doesn’t reach quite the same sheen levels as traditional solvent based gloss used to but the technology is improving!)
Satin is your mid sheen finish at around 40/45% usually. Incredibly popular as it offers a nice contrast to flat matt walls!
Eggshell is the final one we’ll talk about and to add a touch of confusion it can also be used on walls when using the waterbased acrylic eggshell. It’s around a 15-18% sheen level usually and if you’re opting for solvent based that can take 2 weeks of curing before it flattens to that sheen.
Did you know your woodwork paints? Do you have any other questions? Let me know!
