What I can say, the crucial point is the transfer of energy from the speaker into the base-plate. The raiser-tubes need damping to prevent ringing. But to much mass and damping leads to unpleasant results.

No, absolutely no spikes. That would be the opposite of our approach. All our speaker paired with an isolation-base are very stable. But you're right - depending on the carper, we recommend stone/marble plates for a solid foundation.
