ik its a joke but i think the reason why it be like that is because after regret i think the process of sanitization is done so dedf1sh just celebrates or smth? idk hard to explain
from this, it is implied that track 8 (regret) is censored to not include the calamari inkantation. as i heard it, i realized that dedf1sh was longing to hear it again, and it was removed to keep test subjects from becoming too hopeful of escape. octo expansion is so dark, and you captured it so beautifully.
The cheery music of 14 transitioning straight into the frantic and panicked 16 honestly makes me think of an octarian completing tests and thinking they're making progress only for them to defend for their life and ultimately get blended up and that idea that's what they're trying to convey is really cool to me!
I also feel like 19-bless after 16-salty shows the feeling of cold and mindless obedience that oct olings face after the sanitization/blending process. Overall such a good album, and an amazing job ardnin did mixing everything. I've been listening to this for like a week straight now lol.
@@ultimatekettlecorn7460 Pretty sure that the blending makes the sanitizer goop, not that the blending sanitizes. If you were blended you would be dead. Which to be fair would also make you cold and mindless
#14 crush makes me feel strange. Like it’s peak dedf1sh but something is wrong. When I close my eyes I see sanitized octarians dancing on strings all singing their part in the song.
Yeah. Honestly #14 crush has always been my favourite due to how _not right_ it is. Like, the 'cheerfulness' is so off-putting, and the line than sounds like "Run injection." does not help. I love it.
I like to headcanon that Dedf1sh had a moment of clairty after sanitization, and thus produced track 8, Regret, as quickly as they could. Maybe as a small warning to those who come after. I also love the breakcore vibes their music give. :)
I like this interpretation because it also follows the naming of the song and implies that they realized in their moment of clarity that they regretted something in their past possibly relating to them becoming sanitized.
8 regret always makes me sad whenever i hear it. it seems kinda silly, but it’s amazing how solemn it is. i feel like i understand it perfectly even though it doesn’t have lyrics, not even silly gibberish like the rest of the songs.
The void bgs were all so absolutely beautiful though. I feel like the idea of having a bunch of random unidentifiable objects floating around in a black space is so terrifying
In the art book its seems that depend of the kind of octarian, if you were a tentacle they just attatched you to a conveyer belt and cover you with sanitizating ooze, if you were an octoling they injected the sanitizating ooze direct to your ink

its about the lore. each song is dedfish processing her being sanitzed. and as she losses her memory she may skip numbers as she lost track. just a therory tho
Opinion of one, but I want to believe that, despite the overall dreary (but in a good way) and dark nature of the lore around the character and the facility, 13 shade, based on the name, clear speech, and general vibe is in fact a diss track
update: i genuinely forgot where i got this from. she speaks in full sentences that arent just "destory" normal sanitized octolings dont do that. eho the fuck told me that claiming to know japanese that's actually kind of a... weird translation. if anyone reading this comment is confused, she didn't get "partially sanitized" it means part of her wanted to be sanitized, and she ultimately accepted the offer.
I always headcanon dedf1sh as the first sanitization victim (hence the 1 in their name), and it was a partial success because it was their first live test. She was the blueprint for perfecting the formula

I honestly feel like these are meant to go in reverse, like a countdown maybe detailing Dedf1sh's difficulties and adventures in the Deepsea Metro while succumbing to sanitisation...
It would explain why her mixes in reverse slowly lose their flavour and she progressively uses less and less instruments and leaves more and more empty space, the way her music moves from clear defined style to soulless husk
For fun I decided to make up a whole story based on the idea of 19 bless being her life before the series of events that lead to sanitation and 0 shell being her last memory before she touched the sanitation. It’s not exactly a detailed story but I find it fun to think about.
I know this video is a lil old now, but I forgot how beautiful and eerie dedf1sh music is. the way you can really tell that shes different, how sanitized the music feels. its totally different from anything else in any of the games and their modes. the obsolete kick and snare in the backgrounds are the only thing that makes the music feel grounding. thank you so much for tying it all together so well!!
That transition at 6:50 from #5 to #6 is one of my favorite things ever now. Amazing video, glad I found it! The Dedf1sh lore has really brought some of us fans back together.
I really love these liminal space screenshots. It’s like a fever dream. Especially when you first start Octo Expansion in that mini tutorial area; too bad we can’t go back there or listen to that background music.
Love how you incorporated the blender completion theme into the transition between 14 and 16. That track gives me goosebumps everytime due to its mix if disturbing human screams and overly up beat music mixed with TarTar mimicking the music's melody with distorted noise all comes together to form an uncanny and disturbing track as you realize your about to be killed.❤
I love the idea that these song represent dedf1sh’s sanitization/sanitization in general. The dip of highs and joy to possible pain because of the transition is so morbid and interesting. It really makes me wonder if the missing songs represent very dark sides off the sanitization process
I am IN LOVE with the crush to salty transition Like it makes you feel like your actually going through the sanitation process. Your happy about it as it doesnt seem to bad, only to plummet into terror realizing your about to get blended.
Honestly 11 above is just so different from the others that It feels like something isnt right, and the transition from 11 above to 12 awake feels like trying to escape being sanitized and then going back to reality and feeling like You're trapped. 14 Crush is really strange too It gives you creeps, the feeling that something is really wrong, and the transition from 14 to 16 is also gold, I can see how much effort you put into It. The transitions are great, It really represents the dark background of the octo expansion (sry for grammar mistakes, English isnt my native language)
This makes me swear on my behalf that, not only will I take my time to enjoy splatoon 2’s and 3’s music, but the map designs and the artist behind them as well, because the shots shown with the music is just- life changing. And the music? Oml
Now that this video is getting kinda big and people also mention that transition I should probably clarify that the transition from #9 party to #11 above was taken from the dedf1sh teaser video Nintendo uploaded in 2018. That video was also a short mix of different tracks of her and I liked this transition so much I thought it'd be fun to reference here. All other transitions are original though. In retrospect I should've made this clear from the beginning so I apologize. (I added a link to the video in the description)
One of my favorite splatoon theories is that each song that dedf1sh wrote is an emotion that octolings feels when getting sanitized, in this order, and regret really stands out to me for some reason. Though the jump from a sad song like regret to a really jumpy happy one like party is funny ngl
Keeping the poolball percussion into 9 was sick as hell The low synth that helps meld 11 and twelve is wonderful And as everyone else has already said the movement into 16 is superb I overall love how the instrumental elements were added to create the sense of cohesion. Quality mix.
I just realized, Dedf1sh’s name kinda represents on how sanitized octarians don’t rlly have a pulse, similar to how dead organisms usually don’t have a pulse after they die. In short, sanitized octarians are kinda somewhat dead. Sanitized octarians are just literally Zombies who have no control over themselves and can’t think for themselves. The only thing different from Dedf1sh is that she chose to be only PARTIALLY sanitized. That means that she still has a small amount of free will, emotions, and memories, but not much. Remember, she only chose to be partially sanitized so she could focus more on her music and not have any self doubt. I also need to mention that sanitization can also wipe out emotions, in this case doubt. Guess her wish came true, but at what cost? One last thing, I like to think that Sanitization is sorta like a second life, or revival, only the consequences are you being a zombie under a robots will and can’t think for themselves and later on will be killed by a octoling.
I just love how it's not just a compilation of Deadf1sh' s songs but you really managed to built transitions between the songs, and the transition between n°14 and n°16 OMG so great, it goes from a very happy and catchy song, then it slowly becomes darker, with Tartar's cinematic and it becomes completely wicked in the end, truly a piece of art
