When I was a kid I mowed neighbor's lawns over the summer to buy a green Game Boy Color that came with Pokémon Crystal from Best Buy. I'm 34 and both are still sitting in my desk drawer over 20 years later. It's the longest I've ever owned anything and I get emotional thinking about how long I've had it. It's the first thing I ever bought with money I earned. It's the one piece of my childhood that I said I would always keep. Sometimes I take it out and just look at it.
So satisfying to watch! You make the process go so smoothly and its a good reference for anyone trying to refurbish their gameboy! Im gonna do mine soon as im sure its got a ton of grime to clean, but i also need to look at the speaker because i feel like its not as loud as it should be.
Super straightforward process and very clear step by step instructions! Just got a GBC to mod and wanted to clean it before getting the new parts in there to familiarize myself with the system. Great vid!!
I don’t have any recommendations, because I haven’t really used it much. But you could check out Steve’s recommendations in his Amazon list on the TronicsFix RU-vid channel. That may be helpful, depending on if it is priced decent 🤷♂️
I have only used 99% but I have noticed other a number of other people who prefer to use 70%. I personally think both are fine as long as you wipe off leftover residue on plastic surfaces (with the 99) and avoid unreasonably soaking components (with the 70).
I'm not confident in my method. There are ways I see other people doing it better (Odd Tinkering) where they actually replace the nickel coating on it. I personally just scrape the visible rust off, give it a good wipe and make a mental note not to get it wet again. For really bad rust I soak it in white vinegar for a bit then clean it off with a toothbrush.
