The great thing for me that’s come out of quarantine is I’ve been so much more clean and organized, plus now that we have so much time free it’s easy to stay off my phone and do something more productive! Hey there! I just listened to your solo Pretty Basic episode :). I just turned 30 and I went through my whole anxiety journey over the last four years. It all started hitting me when i was about 26. There was a lot of change in my life, and i think as you transition from being in your 20's to your late 20's/early 30's, you change A TON. I can imagine that in your industry, you are surrounded by much younger people and in constant "go-mode" to get shit done. To do as much as possible. To be as productive as possible. But around 26, i began to realized that when my ideal "me" was not matching up to the real "me" there was this identity crisis happening within myself where I didn't feel like i was the person i was "supposed" to be. These days, and all throughout my young adult life, i was told that in order to succeed, you have to be competitive, a "go-getter" but also beautiful and skinny, but down-to-earth, and driven, but also motherly. There were so many things that i thought i had to be by a certain age. And because i didn't live up to what i thought i needed to, I felt like a failure. Over the years, i had to learn how to be kinder to myself. I had to learn how to love me. I learned to accept the pace of my life and enjoy the ride, not the destination. So when you talked about your struggles with anxiety, my heart went out to you. So many of your stories reflected so much of the struggles i went through four years ago. Although i watch your videos, I never comment. But i felt compelled to do so listening to your ep. Here are a couple of takeaways that i discovered in my journey: 1. Don't let the internet,TV, movies, celebrities, tell you how long your anxiety journey is. Listen only to qualified professionals that can give you medical advice based on your work with them. Don't let Joe Shmoe on the internet tell you HOW you should/should not work through this. Everything you read online is a suggestion-even my post. Also, being in your type of industry, you're probably surrounded by a lot of "influencers" and people who are in the entertainment space. They are there for entertainment. Take the internet with a grain of salt and reach out to qualified professionals for you to go through this process. It sounds like you are working closely with your therapist already- thats great! 2. Throw out your own life timeline. This one is hard but necessary. You are a very competitive and goal-oriented person. So Im sure you have these markers in your head of what you must be like/have done by age 27, 28, 29, and 30. Goals are great to have, of course, until they give you anxiety and makes you not-function. I cant even imagine what people like you go through having to get an insane amount of negativity on the internet by strangers. That cannot be easy on a younger womans mental health.
