Episode 3, of my deep dive into KORG Volcas. This episode features the KORG Volca Keys, the poly/mono analogue lead synth, of the volca series. Released in 2013, and still today one of my favorites, with its raw analogue sound.
I have owned the Volca Keys for just over a year, this is definitely one of the best videos I have watched that explains how it works, would recommend anyone who has just bought one watch this video!! Nice work 👍
Cool video, you were really able to create some unique sounds with the ring mod and VCF/LFO. I picked up one of these as my first synth a few weeks ago and I’m really loving it.
So many Volcas out there , so many sounds , do i buy a vloca or should i go out and buy a korg monologue or minilogue . mind is over loaded with the choice , but don't know which direction to take. I'm quite new to all this , I love the sounds to all the volcas , Love the sounds from the monologue too.
Hmm.. sounds strange... maybe you have a defect unit? 🤔 What happens with the volca keys if you turn down attack, decay/release and sustain all to zero (turn all the way to the left). Still one long tone?
I can include a new deep dive in Keys. I think this was the first deep dive episode I ever made, so I think I can add some new aspects on this great unit! :)
Nice video and beautiful sound design. The Keys is also my favorite. But as far as I know, the Keys only has a saw wave. The LFO has variations but the OSC does not, or? EDIT: Got it! It's only accessible through the ring mod, right?
Yes, I didn't have time to answer until now, but you are correct: Mode 5 and 6, Unison Ring and Poly Ring is based on Square wave. Mode 1-4 is Saw wave. To be able to select VCO (saw or square) for every mode would be a great idea for a upgrade, but as far as I know, not available as of today.
Hi, thanks for the comment! Can and will. I am still learning a lot about recording techniques and editing of videos, so every episode gets better and better! :)
Hi, I have not used Arturia MINILAB so I am not sure. However you will need a MIDI out. There are no USB connections on the volcas (except for Sample 2). I have seen people using arturia keystep 37, but that one has i MIDI out.
