This video for me is about how she feels she's a moneymaking machine for the corporations, business man and her label and they make her talent and artistry take a step back, because they want her to make songs that make money no the songs she's passionate about. So the first scene for me is like you say she represents freedom, but her creative freedom, and the people fighting over money are the label people (and her late manager who left her ) because it's for money that they "kill" her creative freedom, to make more and more money. So her creative freedom kind of dies but she can find it again so she heals or it's reborn. Then she "creates" new people with the qualities she believes are important, compassionate, kindness, mindfulness, talent, artistry, ect. And distracts the business man with more money to change them for this new people who have all the new better qualities .

It’s about the music industry’s relationship with Gaga back in 2013. A little bit before that time, she was being criticized by Madonna who claimed she was plagiarizing her work. That opened huge windows for the media to question Gaga’s authenticity and she suffered major backlash from the general public. Her career was hanging by a thread and then she got dropped by her manager. Akon, at the time a collaborator and sort of ‘godfather’ of Gaga’s since the beginning said in an interview that he “cashed out”. All of that made Artpop’s release and promotion a huge mess and cast a huge shadow over her work. This video, released in 2014, is Gaga’s response to all the greedy corporate assholes who “cashed out” on her and thought she was over. Then, she gets uplifted by people who cherish her art, she’s reborn as a new artist and basically gets her revenge by transforming men into better beings who now populate the music industry instead of the old, greedy ones. In hindsight, Gaga seems to really have calculated an amazing masterplan to revive her career during that time and she certainly succeeded against all odds. She made a jazz album with Tony Bennett to showcase her vocal prowess, appeared on the 2015 Oscars singing The Sound of Music and got acknowledged by Julie Andrews which shocked everyone. Then she worked as an actress in American Horror Story and got a Golden Globe for it, released the folk/pop album Joanne to re-establish her public persona as that of a singer-songwriter, got the Super Bowl Half-time Show, got the lead part in Star Is Born, won an Oscar and tons of awards for the film’s main song Shallow and now she’s regarded again as one of the best in the biz. She truly did resurrect her career and her overall portrayal of her image in the media. In 2013, she was almost hated by the public and ridiculed by her peers. Now, she’s a legend.

The video is about her label. They shot her. They didn't care anymore. Gaga paid for this Video but it had no promo and the song was sent to the radio 1 month later. In the video she is also shooting money at them because they were still getting money off of her. And she then takes over control. Gaga also wanted to release aura as the first single but the label didn't want that. Aura was supposed the be part 3. of 1. Paparazzi and 2. Telephone. Edit: I am also making music on my channel. This reminded me that this is one of my favorite Gaga videos! The opening is so chilling to me. I feel like it symbolizes how people only see her as a money machine, the second people in her life weren’t happy with the amount of $ she was making for them, they leave her. The opening scene symbolizes the relationships many pop stars have with the people they work with... I think the choreography & costumes are amazing! G.U.Y deserved to be a big radio hit in my opinion! Thanks for the reaction :)

SHE’S NOT A WOUNDED BIRD SHE’S AN ANGEL LMAO

I think other ppl pointed that out already, but my intepretation is that Gaga uses symbolism to make a commentary about the music industry and to citicize her label. As you said, Gaga as a bird represents freedom. You can say that in the beggining of her career she was free to make her art but when she begun working on ARTPOP, those bussinessmen (ppl in her label that left her during that time) wanted to take that freedom away from her, exploring her to milk all the money they can, but she survives. Then she goes to this palace (maybe refering to the things that make her stronger and inspires her), she is healed in the water and rebirths to claim back her artistry and independence. Once able to do that, she decides to make her part in changing the music industry and getting ppl who actually supports her by reviving those "ideal men" which she thinks have the traits to create new, honest and honorable bussinessmen. Then she invades the company (her label) and replaces the corrupt guys for the new ones and also send them to other labels so they can make the music industry a better place for female artists.

Actually the video is talking about reallity, her reallity, the beggining is how music industry works, how the music industry, her label and all these executives exploit her and only care about the money. So she was having a hard time with mental health issues, adiction issues and she was in a way abandoned, very hurt, so she needs to go to this place to get better and be able to take control of her carreer and her life, by replacing all these men with a better kind of men. And also all these ladies in pink, aren't musicians they are from a reallity show or something like that, and gaga use them in a way of critize all these "artist" that can't even play and instrument or sing well, but have money, recognition and a high level in the industry (I'm sorry for my english, it is not my first language)

an interesting tidbit about the ladies in pink: they are played by the real housewives of beverly hills, (partly because gaga is a fan of the real housewife franchises lol) but also because they represent the pantheon of notable people/singers who are "famous for being famous" without any real talent (see how they aren't playing the instruments correctly) - and that's not shade by any means, it's just a show of how mindless superstardom can still make you successful, whereas gaga's authentic creativity is put on the back-burner. by the end, however, some of the housewives join gaga's side and help her kill the executives in attempt to restore the industry.

I exist in abstracts concerning much of art , and especially Gaga's art, because Gaga once admitted herself that she isn't really sure sometimes what or why , and what are the meanings of forms of art she does, and that she starts out with one thing in mind, and then the thing takes a life of its own. To me that is the point of much of art itself. The interpretation is simply rawly out there, as in life itself doesn't explain itself (like the statement "why do birds sing? Answer: because they can). When I watch Gaga's videos (and hear music), no matter what is said...even by Gaga herself...I don't believe that. And per what she has said, she only speaks one interpretation she has about her own stuff, because I've heard her say different things about meanings of her stuff, which fits in with things she's said about what it means on different levels (I don't want to even paraphrase her, but it seems I heard her say in an interview something to the effect that there's some other thing that is creating the meaning...and it's different than even what she thinks it is, which is exactly how I see art. There is some meaning(s) that I am not even aware of, that even my own art isn't about what I think it's about. And that is what so many artists say when people ask "what does it mean?"...the artist says, "what does it mean to you? That's what it means". The artist doesn't even know what it means. They are just vessels, and it is just said that way by truthful artists. I recall comedians like Jim Carrey saying to them something else creates the joke, and they are witness to it coming out of their mouths, and laugh just like the audience at this thing that they didn't create. I am a real life comedian. My audience is the bank teller and grocery store clerk. I've literally made people pee their pants cuz my humor is crazy good, yet nothing out of my mouth do I create. It just pours out. And I'm peeing my pants, too. I swear once (she's been known to do things like this) Gaga responded on RU-vid comment I made that, "You really have deep interpretations of this" (The reason I think it was her is because the user i.d. was hers. I guess that's a giveaway).
