Many more trout mountain camping fishing trips coming soon now that the weather is nice. Will be headed to Eastern Sierra soon with high hopes to catch and cook some good food! www.fishermans... fishermanslife...
For the fishing regulations, spots not specially mentioned in that guide follow broader statewide regulations based on the speciss. For trout in CA right now, that looks like with a few exceptions, you can fish all inland rivers with a five bag daily limit, two bag possession. Page 31 of the 2024-25 fishing regulation book 👍
I love you man please be careful every couple weeks I always come back and binge watch your videos please don’t take so many risk life is about risk but man your life is just worth a little more than mines please be safe I look up and forward to you
Matts, when you are using satellite maps an area you are interested in fishing, find a topographic map to find the features of the terrain. That way you can plan ahead.
It’s so good to see you again I thought I would never see you post again when you stopped for a while I’ve missed your content your the reason I got into fishing thank you
Ive been watching you for a couple of years now back when i lived in California and youve taught me a lot. I moved to Kentucky 2 years ago and i went fishing here about a year ago and caught my first ever catfish. And thats honestly probably the first fish and only fish ive ever caught. I remember catching tiny fish when i was young and fishing with my dad but he was always helping me. This was the first fish i feel like i caught all on my own.
Careful out there Matt these videos are excellent for those at home but don't take unnecessary risk. I'd also recommend small jerk baits and micro jigs they are killer for trout.
I've been out exploring doing trout fishing myself. Been watching you for at least 5 years on/off. I haven't been doing exactly the best but I've been averaging 3 fish each time I go out-usually for a day. Thank you for the videos
For your fly rod, using an Egan's Frenchy on a Euro nymph rig set-up could be a good strategy for getting into more trout on a stream like that. Ticking it off the bottom and feeling the grab. Great video, thanks for sharing.
Hello from Ohio! I just came across your channel with your Dugout Shelter in the Sand Video. I loved it and subscribed right away! ❤Thank you for sharing! 😊
Thanks for these how to videos on fresh water. I’ve fished the ocean for years but have very minimal knowledge on mountain stream/river fishing. Gonna go have some mountain adventures!
@fishermanslife I actually love the adventurous. You should get a dual sport motorcycle to use for exploring new fishing holes. Just makes fishing that much more fun.
Hello Sir I am a new subscriber and I really enjoy your matter of fact way of doing things using common sense!! OK I am not a hardcore fisherman but as a boy growing up in the Mountains of NC I fished all the time using worm fly or spinner. Flys on top or 6-10 inch under water seemed best. BUT here is the thing you are not doing. You have to walk upstream and throw in the pool above you without being seen by the fish. An ole timer told me the fish watch the horizon line all around them. Anything crossing that line will scare the fish for 30 min sometimes. In the creeks you can see the fish scatter 200 feet away when you pop out on the shore. We would crawl to an edge behind a tree and put the pole out like a limb. When they don't see you its possible to catch many in the same hole. Try this!! you will be amazed.
Now, if you go to a stocked river where guides float and people are its different. Boats are better than standing on the bank But in remote places with narrow areas the fish are eaten alot more by other critters.
I got a really nice PFD fishing vest that I always wear. it has a ton of pockets for all my gear. I usually fish alone also so I want to have any advantage I can get if i fall in. you should really look into getting one and wearing it when you're fishing alone. you fish in some sketchy spots. please be careful out there.
had to get the camera back lol the fact you are so determined is why I been watching you for a few years now, always trying something different. Love what you do my guy.
Nice trip man 👏, loved how you change the view every few seconds while you were talking by your car, I'm sure that's a lot of work, but I gues that's what it takes to makes it fishing movie instead of fishing video 🤩, loved it, keep them coming! Sure you will catch some good ones next time 💯! Watching you all the way from Kazakhstan 😉🖐
On the Sacramento river for trout I have really good luck with orange Thomas buoyancy spoons. I use like 2/5 but I have to go heavy for the current and how far out I have to cast. But in spots like that it doesn't need to be that big obviously. And what I do is a cast a little upstream, let it sink going down river, anticipate bottom, and give it little pops, that action as it flows down seems to be the most consistent for me. Something you should try also are float setups, specifically slip floats if more than 3-5ft of depth. This was you can get the lure right in their face. Can do this with jigs, flies, etc. Can add scent to them.
I don’t fish at all but I really enjoy your videos lol keep doing it man you’re very entertaining you should have your own show like survivorman but about fishing 🙌🏼
Get some Wax Worms, it'll be killer for trout fishing in those rivers. Bait to a small hook with a splitshot and throw it out there and just let it drift. If you want you can also add a floater and let it drift. Goodluck and fish on! 🤙
I go into the Sierras all the time and love exploring California's mountain river valleys and am always quite successful and If I can give you 1 piece of advice is this: Wear natural color clothes to blend in with either sky, rock, dirt, trees, plants... whatever your backdrop will be to the fish looking up at you and the 2nd part to this is keep a low profile and cast from "inactive" parts of the pools or runs INTO the active parts where the currents drop oxygen, food and offer proximal swimming depths. Avoid being seen... give them credit as this is their home and have to live being wary of predators... especially the larger older wiser ones. Good luck on your next outing into the beautiful Sierra Nevadas bro! 🏞🎣😊🔥
And you can't go wrong with either black or bi/color dark top with silver sparkle/clear bottom mini jig or a small panther martin or small Thomas Buoyant in gold
I’ve been subscriber for a while and today I finally for some reason your videos weren’t showing in my feed. I have a lot to lovely videos to catch up on so stoked. Love seeing you shine!
Definitely some goldline rope with some large knots tied in it. Wouldn’t that be important but you sure proved it is. Still love your little underwater fishing pole. Was a great episode you did with catching crawdads and fish while underwater. And then out to the ocean doing a similar thing. Good job, love watching your stuff!
I've tried fishing in these mountains many times. The fish in these small rivers and streams are very skiddish and tough to catch. You have to hide and cast. They will come out and eat it if they don't see anybody on the shore.
Drift a Powerbait Floating Mice Tails on a mosquito hook and a small split-shot weight a foot or two from the hook. Bring various color combos, the fish just might hit on a specific color. Slow retrieve on the way back. Hot on the Kern River. Good Luck and be safe my dude!!
I'm surprised you never use mini jigs. I use the Berkley yellow and white or the natural brown trout colored jigs and always catch. But I also fish 4lb flour. You win some, and you lose some.
Great video 👍🏼 my friend I love and enjoy saltwater pier fishing 🎣 I have a recommendation you should get a collapsible ladder 🪜 that can to make it easier for you to climb down and up when you are down there at the river
If you want to catch trout in those waters. Cut off the tail on a three inch paddle tail minnow. Use a medium speed retrieve and, and twitch it like a jerk bait fishing for bass but not quite as aggressive. Choose a jig head that works well with the depth and current
50mm jerkbait are the way to go for river or stream trouts, anything from the 2-3” range. Just a moderate retrieve with insane non-stop jerk motion highly recommend “Tsurinoya 50s”
love it 🎣 1:37 man just creators understand the pain of getting those kinda shots! 😂 driving or walking off and returning just to pick up your camera again haha. a lot of work, but worth it 🔥
Jeez Matt, all that peril and NO fish, that sucks big time. I lived in a little town up in Northern California for 16 years, there were two places to fish, the feather river, and butte creek. The feather river NEVER gave me one single fish in the entire 16 years I lived there, but butte creek was an anglers dream. So I feel your pain of getting skunked, better luck next time.
Although you had your jacket on alot of the times, I also noticed your white shirt was very bright in the sunlight. Something more neutral, (like medium greyish) may have helped. Tight lines brother, keep the videos coming.
I like these trips. I would also like to see what else is living in those water ways. Never been there. Don't know what other species of fish are there.
I wish salmon season was open this year , I’ve only gone for salmon once in Feather River in Oroville CA and there was so many people and so many big salmon but didn’t end up catching any
Try artificial worms. There are hotdog tube jig I use for trout from bass pro there called trout maxx trout worms. I like using them for trout at the lakes
OMG it's 5:18 in the morning and I'm watching the video. thinking wait a minute mentals never said the freshMaker. I could've swore it said the breath Maker 😂😂
A panther marten is good but there are a lot of different spinners I’ll give you a hint a lot of spinners you’d think of using for steel head slay trout they are a lot more aggressive then you think
I’ll watch here in a little bit, but the title cracks me up… The forest camping but had to run an extension cord lol unless you can somehow run it from your car if you have some kind of rig for that, that’s really cool but it just sounded funny no disrespect. Can’t wait to watch later bro!
