Seeing the limits of vanilla 1.8 being pushed this far is insanely impressive to me. Obviously the later versions of the game provide tons of incredible new features for developers (even custom models/uis in bedrock iirc), but there will always be a certain charm to old servers that rely on armor stands and chest menus and zombies wearing player heads. There's probably still so many little tricks and quirks that are yet to be found
This is a pretty old trick. I used it back in 2017 or something when I still did 1.8 development, I think it was in some troll plugin. Might still be on SpigotMC. Another cool visual trick you can do with packets is to send a Camera packet for an entity that has a special camera effect, like Creeper or Enderman, then send an entity destroy packet. The camera effect will stay.
I stopped Playing skyblock a while ago but as a plugin developer I love to see stuff like this where professionals document their methods. Thank you for the informative video!
Dude this is actually really cool, really respect how hard you work on these little details you can use on development of skyblock (or other things that you may work on)
What would happen to players who play on higher versions where this does not work on their client? Would there still be an extra effect besides the ones shown in your video?
I've known about this packet for a while, but you've taken it to the next step. Using biomes and different status effects to get major varying results in sky color is incredible.
Man, it would be pretty funny if someone made a boat that did something like this, that would be crazy though, probably will never happen, people would just want it out of their inventory, would have to find a way around that.
Have you given any thought as to how FullBright might impact this for the players who choose to use it? I don't know if it would give the same effects night vision does or not.
Watched the video now, this is really cool. Especially considering the specific requirements of hypixel skyblock. Usually, you could always just install a mod if you need fancy tinted lighting or something but you can't do that ofc. Even though I'm no programmer (not even close) I'm able to marvel at some of the complexity behind stuff in skyblock even if there is glaring gameplay flaws and bugs. Would love to see more behind the scenes stuff, even if its after rift release to avoid any spoilers.
haven't played skyblock in about 2 years but your videos first got me into programming & now I recently got accepted to MIT for CS :) Vid popped into my recommended so I figured I'd say hello
Quite informative, as a new plugin developer, I would like to make a small server, not based on melee pvp, should I choose 1.8.9 or the latest versions? While the latest versions provide good features, I should keep updating the code each time, because of nms.
tbh i don't understand anything you did but it looks pretty cool. are the different fog colors gonna be used in the rift update or no cuz it's a pretty cool concept
He said in a different comment that this will be used for a slight aqua tinting in an ice area. I kinda hope it is retroactively added to other areas. If its possible to do it clientside-only, imagine if the screen started actually tinting red when you burn up in magma fields, things like that. edit: just rewatched the start and he says its a packet sent from server so i do think its clientside. there's a lotta potential for this just for the vibes of areas, I feel
@@burntpizza1437 while it can, clearly it doesnt always since they plan on using it for rift, might depend on the intensity of the effect or something, so maybe specific colors are a no-go. I feel like something like that should be toggleable anyways, so not an issue. (Also, mods will deffo swoop in to solve any actual performance issues if there is any, for mod users which is most players, not saying they should develop around that or anything but just something to keep in mind)
For instance if I was once a cheater on hypixel with MC coding knowledge such as knowing mc packets etc. and knowing how everything works would that be eligible for still applying for a position as a watchdog dev or would it completely ruin my chances? ( hypothetically )
As you stated this is going to be used in the rift update, but will it decrease performance on lower end pc's? Because I an quite certain as a hypixel admin you got a high end pc. So long story short, is/will this be tested for lag on a lower end pc?
New video !The colour thing seems cool i didn't know much abt it .Also idk if u have made a video game but i am working on a python game but making the characters and animations and staff is a pain in the ass d u have know apps that are easy to use for 2D animations which are free?
thats so cool MInikloon surly u soon working on mega walls we all want new kits and maps pls i understand your busy but u could boost the amount of players on megawalls if u do that
Will there be rain in the end? If there is a skyblock update like this? If there is, I might come back to play skyblock since I got hacked before. Also Minikloon, you are one of the chillest Admin in the whole Hypixel Server thats why the game keeping it clean.
Fun fact, if you set the rain level change to a very high value, for some people, their fps drops. You can take this to an extreme and even crash their computers. Pretty useful
