Thank you Joanna. Always a pleasure to hear you speak. My husband and I have been to Great Britain on several occasions (heard daily Mass at St. Etheldreda's, what an experience! and spoke to the pastor there, as well as a lovely and very knowledgeable elderly parishioner, afterwards). We visited almost every church we came across and at one point stepped into a High Anglican church; we had to keep checking the sign outside, so close were the similarities to a Catholic church! So I was fascinated to hear the part of your talk when these were mentioned as rather recent innovations in the Anglican church. I had always assumed the similarities to have been remnants which were preserved by Henry VIII, who was actually very Catholic in his practice of the faith.

@FigaroHey
@FigaroHey 7 лет назад
Actually... since 'Catholic' means 'universal,' and 'Anglican' means 'restricted to England,' 'Anglican Catholic' makes no sense. And the title 'Roman Catholic' was invented by Anglicans to suggest that the one, holy, catholic and apostolic church was 'merely Roman' and 'foreign' and not one, holy, UNIVERSAL and apostolic. Anglicans trace their origins to the lusty loins of Henry VIII, not to the Apostles. Anglicanism is definitely not 'one,' though it is singular, and thus not by any definition 'catholic.' Anglicanism is one of those branches that has been cut off from the vine, and is thus withering and dying, while the Barque of Peter sails on.
@johnking5174

I am Church of England and proud of it. Episcopalian is another word for Anglican too. Let me give you some facts about your church. The Roman Catholic church in Ireland at least is dead. I will give you an example from Diocese of Derry where some of my family come from. It is a diocese with 51 parishes. In 1992 there were 140 full time priests serving it. In 2002 there were 105 full time priests serving it. Now in 2017 only 75 full time priests serve it. Hardly flourishing. Attendance at masses on a weekly basis has plummeted to 25%. This is just one diocese. Ireland as a whole has a priest problem in your church. Yes, we have ours too. So please get off the high horse, have some humility as Jesus Christ expressed on Holy Thursday when he washed the feet of the disciples, and acknowledge that your church has severe problems, not only the child rape and molestation, but so much more problems, as well all do. "one true church" is nonsense.

I am not going to waste my time in trying to apply logic and reason to you after this excellent rant you have wrote. You must be proud. So Mr/Mrs Inferno (great name) I will leave you to your nonsense. There comes a point, when someone does not use paragraphs in comments that it is fruitless to continue. So, bye bye nut case, bye bye.

John King: I could never understand the claim that some Anglicans make that they are Catholic. They separated from the Catholic Church, rejected the authority of the Holy See, rejected the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, got rid of 5 of the 7 sacraments, substituted the Protestant and heretical Edwardian Ordinal for the Roman Pontifical, imprisoned, punished, and put to death countless Catholics for maintaining the "Old Religion" and you anglicans claim to be Catholic? Absolutely bonkers !

Constance St Michael Vatican II was truly the work of the holy spirit because out of it ecuminism it has now brought great defenders of the faith back home to where they belong especially in ardius times like ours where information flows like hot lava. They have helped make many a cradle catholics wake up to reality of the faith. This shows that Jesus will never forsake his church unless one follows your heresy of denying the church founded by Christ on Peter. So being truly founded by Christ he will never forsake his church. As has been shown by the early church fathers during the trying times of Arius, have faith on the chair of Peter.

God bless you Joanne. I am British. Grew up in Norfolk and Suffolk. Married a young American in 1969. Brought up in the Church of England. My husband's family were strict Methodist. I lived with them while my husband served in Vietnam. Worst year of my life. They were anti catholic and were very unkind. I should have gone home to England. I found the Catholic Americans so much kinder. I converted to the Catholic Faith. In 1978. My husband and I divorced after about 17yrs. It so funny my in laws reminded me of the Puritanes. Unfortunately I did fall away from the Catholic Church for many years after my second divorce. Started to watch E.W.T.N. about 4 yrs ago. Started to watch the Journey Home. Sent away for a book on the Early Church Fathers. Last step going to my youngest Goddaughters wedding the day after Our Lady Assumption Aug 2014. I believes a small miracle happened to me in that beautiful Catholic Church. So blessed to be back in the Church. I was home for Christmas. My dear sister and husband took me to the Catholic Church. Also took me back to Our Lady of Walsingham Shrine. Enjoyed it so much. I miss England so much.

I'm grateful and humbled to be Catholic - not 'proud.' My Catholicism was received, as we all receive faith, through my parents and other witnesses, other relationships, and by the grace of God. There's nothing to be proud of, since it's not my accomplishment. It is my responsibility to live up to it, but not my achievement to boast of. Don't like it when people say they are 'proud' to be Catholic. The Church is the Body of Christ into which we are - all undeserving - incorporated. And that 'proud to be' stuff is exclusionary (I'm so proud of something I have no responsility for' implies, 'And you poor slob have nothing to be proud of .') There's nothing truly 'catholic' about being exclusionary (us - the proud ones, versus them, the benighted outsiders). And while we're all busy being proud, we're failing in the call to go out into the whole world and proclaim the good news. We should not be 'proud' to be Catholic; we should be ashamed that we have been poor witnesses and so many people remain outside the fullness of truth.

48:30 - Well John Paul II did say that Charles and Camilla would only marry over his dead body, and it happened. Now, why I wrote this, was due to Joanna's insult that wasn't it great the Prince of Wales had to postpone his marriage blessing because the pope died. No, it was out of pure courtesy and respect from one state to another. She made it out to be divine. Sorry Joanna, I thought you had more respect than that.

@@PInk77W1 I am a member of the Church of England and I detest papists who always think the Anglican church was created just because King Henry VIII wanted a divorce. Reform and change was stirring in England in the 1520s, and it just happened at the same time as King Henry wanting a divorce. Also, do some research and you will see it was the Archbishop of Canterbury Thomas Cramner who actually formed the rules, doctrine and worship of the Church of England, not the King. The Church of England blends a mixture of reform and Catholic tradition into one. Ensuring we never lose the beauty of our ancient faith, but keep our protestant ideas too. I understand certain papists like you will never accept our faith, and that is fine. But please, do not insult me before researching our faith first.
@gregoriotauro4469

Then you may also stop using the term "papist", a historically pejorative term and refer to Catholics as Catholics. That reformation was "brewing" in England is a poor excuse for what happened. There's a reason as to why Anglicans are referred to as "Catholic lite". The entire affair was so political and devoid of any sincere reform that for such a time Anglicans retained a lot of catholic practices that the Reformation immediately dealt with. I hate when heretics, sorry Anglicans, keep reading their propaganda and truly believe what they speak.

14:30 - No Joanna, "Touch Wood" is not Catholic, it is actually pagan - where you would touch a piece of wood to get rid of excess energy in your body. Also pagan belief was that spirits inhibited wood, and so touching the wood brought good luck from the spirits - nothing to do with Catholicism. She decided not to mention this of course.

This woman's frantic, scatter-brained way of talking is so English, and so - sorry - annoying. Rattling on so fast and trying to make jokes just feels like she's wasting time, when she could slow down, be easier to follow, if she just dropped trying to be funny and got on with the information. But so, so English - their way of being funny with all these asides that are off-topic and much more funny to the speaker than to any listener. Had lots of that at university there and always wanted to do a Joe Friday and say, 'Just stick to the facts, ma'am. Stand-up comedy is not your strength and not what we're here for.' I find her hard to focus on. I'd rather just read the information. Too bad. It's my period of study - English Renaissance and Reformation - so I am interested in anything about it. Maybe I'll try some of the other speakers.

49:00 - And many millions of men and women who were sexually abused by catholic priests watched too, as John Paul II did nothing to protect them during his reign as roman pontiff from a vile paedophile priests across the glove. Between 1978 and 2005, thousands of boys and girls were subject to the most horrendous torture by these priests and nuns, and John Paul II did nothing. Turned a blind eye, and allowed his successor Benedict to write to bishops across the globe ordering them under pain of excommunication not to go to the police in regards to priest sex abuse cases, "perpetual silence" was the term he used. So Joanna, many were watching, and many were delighted he was dead, because he can now come face to face with his God, and understand the pain and hurt he allowed to continue because of his inaction as pope.
