Panama City, Panama, has an enormous amount of wealth flowing around. But today we're going to explore the more local neighborhoods. I wanted to show what life is like for most Panamanians - the kinds of houses, income, and lifestyle.
Some of the neighborhoods we'll be exploring are: Rio Abajo, Curundu, El Chorrillo, San Miguelito, and so much more.

you need to see são paulo and rio de janeiro hoods. These "poor areas" are much more developed than Rocinha or any other favela. For brazilians these would be low middle class homes.

The area he showed first, around Plaza Amador, is walkable. The street where he showed the baseball stadium is walkable too. The place where the driver said he used to live is on the side of a major road, so one should be ok walking by as long as you don't hang around for too long or enter alleys between the buildings (common sense, and also who would if he's not specifically looking for something). Pueblo Nuevo, the major or mid sized roads are walkable, just stay away from alleys. The other places you'd have to get around alleys and who would want to walk through alleys or slums. Most, if not all, gang activity in Panama, as anywhere in the world, has ties with or directly work for foreign criminal groups. A minority of criminal operations have been known to be carried by small foreign groups. It's just that big criminal groups from other countries do not operate in Panama directly, or at least not overtly. Colombians and Venezuelans are usually relatively easy to distinguish, but, specially with Venezuelans that has changed because of greatly expanded inmigration of people from all regions and social groups of the country, which has made lots of people with a kind of racial mix more similar to that of Panamanians to come into the country. I still think i have a knack for telling more mixed venezuelans from panamanians based on their appearance and rather subtle facial traits. Of course the accent would tell them away inmediately. And the driver here doesn't look colombian at all, he couldn't have looked more panamanian, I have no idea where this guy got that from haha. Also, a lot of chinese did came as labor force for the construction of the Panama Canal. But I assume there had been significant inmigration before that, and they kept coming even more after the construction of the Panama Canal. They always keep coming to Panama, just as in the US or other places where they migrate a lot to.

this cab driver gave a very poor tour and had a very poor knowledge of panamanian history and ghetto life. chinisse people came into PANAMA during 1850 for the construccion of the Panama railroad.
