Use of Deep Learning to Generate Synthetic CT from Diagnostic CT for Expediting Palliative Radiotherapy

Currently, palliative patients are required to attend an additional CT simulation session at SCGH.
This is particularly stressful for patients living in regional areas, given the travel involved and their
advanced cancer. This step could be removed using AI to transform the image used for their diagnosis into an image that’s essentially the same as the CT simulation scan. This transformed image can then be used to plan the patient’s treatment so they only need to come to the clinic for therapy. This means less travel for the patient and a shorter time until their symptoms can be addressed, leading to an overall improvement in the quality of their remaining life.
