Yeah, I wish I lived earlier…saw them live in Wacken Open Air 2013…one of the worst live bands ever, I was so embarrassed…! First, I asked my friend: “ who is this bad DP cover band?!”….then I realised, it was them….😢

Black Sabbath,Led Zeppelin,Deep Purple the holy triad of rock music🤘

Beatles broke up and suddenly we had the trinity of super hard rock heavy bands to compensate the loss, and take over the decade. You are completely spot on, as those 3 bands stood out, way above other bands for that time.
@dr.juerdotitsgo5119

Such as the trinity in the 60s: Beatles, Stones, Kinks. Although the best of the 60s trinity was the least popular (Kinks), while the best in the 70s was the most, Led Zeppelin.

@@Dibbdroid True, just as Sabbath is overhyped in the metal community. But that doesn't change anything. All 8 official Zeppelin albums are good, Purple and Sabbath were slouching before the 70s were even over.

@@dr.juerdotitsgo5119 In through the outdoor isn't good, it is poor at best. They were done by 75. The only consistant on thyeir albums is Bonzo's drumming. Sabbath released one poor album and that could be improved with better production. Purple ended in '76 without any duds, the only downer on their legacy is the Come Taste the Band Tour. Led Zeppeilin are over-hyped in the media and their main asset, aside from Bonzo, was Peter Grant. He is a true legend.

The icing on the cake of all Deep Purple songs is that organ. It gives all their music such a unique vibe. Coupled wih Blackmore's guitar and Gillian's vocals. Just an amazing sound. I love that Blackmore continued with the organ in Rainbow. @SalvoG you really need to check out Rainbow On Stage - in my top 5 favorite live albums.

The importance to Deep Purple of the King of Keys,Jon Lord cannot be overestimated. What a heavy sound he got from that Hammond C3,with NO synths. A master,as they all were in that Mk2 line up.

So many prog bands incorporated classical music, blues and jazz into their music. Many times in the same song, lol. Loved this and was my gateway drug to my appreciation of those genres..

I was basically doing the same thing when I saw em in 73. I was 13. No parental supervision. That was an exceptional show. ZZ Top opened followed by Billy Preston, Savoy Brown , Blue Oyster Cult, and anchored by Deep Purple. Saw Zeppelin a couple months before, Chicago and Santa, after that and Pink Floyd before I moved back to Atlanta. Great summer.

Classic song that started many a heavy/hard rock music journey, including mine. The intro is iconic was meant as a statement. Deep Purple had dabbled with some classical collaborative stuff and guitarist Ritchie Blackmore had enough. He wanted to make a hard rock album and Speed King was very much the opening statement. Effectively a music genre started here.

… Yes, there are other bands and not only Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Black S. etc - there is also Deep Purple and they've been making damn good music since 1968... especially from 1969 to 1975 the best songs for me! … Sorry to anyone who hasn't heard Deep Purple as you're missing out on a lot!! 🎸🎹🥁🎤

This is their fourth album however it's the first album with Ian Gillan as vocalist. In their first few albums Rod Evans was their vocalist. Ritchie Blackmore wanted a more heavier sound and he realized that if he wanted to continue with that and the release of the Deep Purple In Rock album he would need a vocalist that could fit in with a more heavier sound and he knew Rod couldn't handle it so he fired him and hired Ian for this album and the rest is history.

Hi Sal❤ This one was great...nice pick. If you want to hear a gorgeous song by CSN, do "Find the Cost of Freedom". Another beautiful song by The Eagles is "Seven Bridges Road". I don't think anyone has reacted to either one. Be the first.🥰

they have done some great stuff - I also like Hush (1968) - what I did not realise when I first heard the tune was it was a remake of a Billy Joe Royal tune - Royal's version was a more basic swamp rock tune - I prefer the psychedelic rock of deep purple with the swirling organs

It is a shame that in U.S.A. cut off the beginning , and I wonder why. It was full of meaning, the song lost the force as an amazing introducing piece of the album.

You will definitely enjoy side 2 of that album. 23 minutes of heavy organ / guitar solos and duels, excellent rhythm work and Ian Gillan in the best year of his career. 4 songs unfortunately seldom mentioned when people suggest Purple songs to react to with the best of them closing the album.
