Thanks for the lesson. I think some of the things said were inaccurate. Our ancestors had a system of giving names, based on what was called ntoro. An example is if a man is Owusu, all his sons will be called Osei, and his daughters, Serwaa. Osei will name his sons Owusu, and his daughters, Owusuaa. Adu's son's will be called Opoku, and his daughters Opokuwaa (Pokuaa). Opoku's son's will be called Adu etc. Names like Manu (Maanu) Mensa (Mansa) and Anane are given to consecutive boys (or girls). An example is a couple have 5 kids in this order: girl, boy, boy, boy, and boy. The 3rd child will be called Manu, the 4th, Mensa and the 5th Anane. You were right with names like Nkrumah and Badu, which are based on the position of birth and nothing to do with consecutive gender. I hope this is clear, and helpful.
