Deep Snow

Well, if deep snow was what we were looking for, we definitely found it!! It's not often that the suburban looks small, but the amount of snow around it just dwarfs the 46" tires, it was a great day for the snow wheeling enthusiast!! We even got a little stuck, but thanks to the rear mounted winch, we were able to extract ourselves pretty easily.

I like how he lets off the gas as soon as traction is lost instead of staying in the gas and beating on the drivetrain. Smooth driving. This guys knows what he's doing.

this guy is very good. He knows how to drive in snow. Cant just bury the throttle when your stuck. You have to use momentum. And he does it amazingly. You can tell by the throttle control when hes barley moving. Rep man you did a great job.

Finally someone who doesn’t just floor it and dig in and get stuck

Yeah it's not too often to find guys with big trucks who know how to drive in snow. They all want to floor it and use power not skill. This is a lot of snow and this guy did a great job.

I have to point out here, that this is a driver who is very well connected with the physics of driving in deep snow. I only Know 1 person personally who can operate a vehicle like this besides myself. There is a "feel" to deep snow driving, and even stock 4x4 SUVs can go into the nasty like this provided the driver is able to "feel out" the traction and get into that "rhythm" of only taking what traction is available and not digging. Superb skill!

I take my stock 2500 and it stock 16’ tires. It does well. last time I went up the mountain we had some snow flurry’s thought I was driving on fresh snow... I should of known the snow much higher in the mountain would be frozen went off the road a little enough that I could get back in the road bent the step bar on a rock. Guy on a side by side gave me a tug went right back down the mountain.

@SarahSmith-hd8kd 4 года назад
Yes exactly correct. I have never been able to tell someone how I can navigate deep snow so well and after reading your comment it hit me like a brick I will now tell them you have to literally "feel your rig" in the snow as if it's one with you sounds all hippie like but that's the only way to describe it for me from now on. I however like to hit super deep snow with my fully framed out Jeep Cherokee XJ super built but still with all the built weight it's so light the snow likes it much better then the weight of my k5 which I can do awsome with to as it's also geared low 4.56 with rear posi it's just the XJ with the FT lbs of TQ and the light weight giant tires all locked up is just smooth like butter.

@racecardriver467 It's hard to tell by the video but there is only 2.5 psi in the 46" tires running on 16" wide double beadlocks Snow fall had been over 7 feet in the last 3 days.

The Suburban 4X4 is one of the best snow vehicles partly because it's heavy, around 5000 lbs. so once it's moving, it tends to keep moving. This one looks like it's set up with lockers front and rear. Also the extra weight of the equipment you're carrying over the rear tires helps. Great driving skills and a well done video! Thanks

+Ray Stanton I have a 99 K2500 with the 454, 4x4 winter studded tires and it weighs 6700 lbs. In cases like this well obviously I would use 4x4 haha, but on snow covered roads or ice covered roads, I don't even need to use 4x4. at least last time I have had it on the scale, and there was nothing loaded in it instead of a full tank of fuel.

I think the opposite way for me it's always been my XJ that dominates the deep snow it is fully framed out and locked up with trussed out axles huge long arm lift tires ect but my posi 4.56 89 k5 is a beast as well but will never pull the hills and trails that I've done in my XJ it's just what I've experienced I'm no snow vet but I'm pretty darn good just wanted to let you know my personal experience was 180 don't know why🙂

I just recently started thinking about running 395/85R20s on my '04 Dodge. Strangely enough, I was thinking of using tube flat fenders for clearance to give it that Power Wagon vibe. This beast has shown me just how good flat fenders and 46" tires can look on a fullsize rig.

Time for some of those Mat-tracks to be installed, like a snow cat, exept make for a truck/4x4.....That suburban is heavy like a tank.....put those wheels and tires on a Toyota, (much lighter), and they might work?

@chickensodelicious
@chickensodelicious 8 лет назад
Not on that kind of snow. You don't want to dig into the snow, you want to float on top and slowly pack it under the tires. Usually guys wheeling in the snow will air down to like 5psi to increase the foot print and stay on top, rather than digging down and just getting caught up on the chassis.

Needs wider wheels , those tires are 19.5 inches wide, would of been a lot better on 19-20 inch wide wheels , then 2psi in the tires and he would of driven there most likely effortlessly
