Still learning. Edit: I just want to say to the people who are commenting about the mistakes and the inconsistencies made within this video. This is my second blender project and yes it does have problems which is why I am thankful for those spotting the ones such as the Defiant leaving DS9 but saying "set a course of DS9" (Could be Impek Nor but that's kinda rotated). I will look over these mistakes and possibly do a remake of this in the future once I have more experience with blender. Anyways, love to you all!
But it's pretty good already, so well done on your progress. I would perhaps have had DS9 pan in for the end shot, just to reinforce the fact that it's ST:Deep Space Nine.
Warp sequence needs some work, the current sequence looks more like Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda, where the Defiant is entering a slipstream portal rather than creating a static warp field and moving space around the ship.
It looks kinda rough with several things that could be easyly fixed while improving the result drastically. 1) the static background starfield with every star being a circle of the same size and color. I think a simple particlesystem should do the trick to create a more random and 3-dimensional starfield (e.g. each particle being a sphere with a random diameter and the texture being a light emitting material with slightly random colors in the red, yellow, blue spectrum) 2) DS9 is too low poly or simple textured without any lights. pretty sure there are better models online available for free (or better textures) 3) The ship flyby through the character names, should have the ship appear from a much farther distance and smaller scale. Right now you can clearly see the plane with a starfield texture through which the defiant model is flying. If you don't want a super huge scene with the ship very far away, you might be able to trick it, by scaling the ship down the farther it is away. Since there is no other reference point, no one should notice if the defiant is only 25% size when far and 100% when near the camera 4) the later closeup and 0:59 needs better lighting. The shadows are pure black, but when you check out original footage, even the ships shadowed areas still have texture visible. So raising the ambient light to about 20% could help or add another light source in a different position which lights the currently shadowed areas. 5) better material settings. right now they are matte plastic of a uniform color. no reflectivity, no metallic sheen, no noise for slight dirt or subtle metal plates. Try creating a realistic looking brushed metal texture, then reduce the reflection slightly to get the more star treky duranium effect. 6) the warp effect. take a screenshot of that light effect they use in the show when a ship breaks through the light barrier. Put that image on a plane, then simply animate the scale of the plane up and down for the warp effect.
This just doesn't work: 1. Why set a course for DS9 AWAY from DS9? 2. The show is mainly about DS9, not the Defiant. 3. The TNG intro and titles are so dated these days, I think DS9 and Voyager are superior in every way.
