Mascis was one of the few hardcore drummers to incorporate a cowbell. The only other I can think of was Raw Power’s first drummer, Helder Stefanini, who was oddly doing it across the Atlantic in Poviglio, Italy at nearly the same time.

Proto grindcore excellence. An awesome guitar, bass and drum onslaught like no other. These tunes burrow into the brain. Great vocals too without any tedious cookie monster growling. Fecking fantastic.

For today standards , this would be considered PowerViolence .

There is no such thing as "today standards", "yesterday standards". This is 80's hardcore and "powerviolence" doesn't exist. Stuff labelled as "powerviolence" is nothing but super fast hardcore.

@@luigirussolo3382 Yoth Korps started earlier than Deep Wound. J Mascis saw Youth Korps play live in 1981 and was influenced by their ultrafast sound.

@@chano7053 i think, that process of formation of grindcore was long (197x-mid 1980s) and there were different bands which added new elements to grindcore (fast speed, blastbeats, raw vocal etc). I usually recall in memory Urinals, Discharge and Bad brains. But no doubt Yoth Korps sounds like early grindcore, and gives new information to analyze. Thx for this band, i didn`t know about it before.
