Deepak Chopra and Bernardo Kastrup On the future of Planetary Evolution 

BK is one of the most interesting cats out there today IMHO.

In my personal search for truth, I found non dualism as expressed in Advaita Vedanta, the satisfaction that ended my search. Bernardo's scientific and rational thinking is frosting on the cake. I find the internal subjective search the ancient Rishis did was the best scientific examination ever done. This talk came to the conclusion that "I am the Thing in Itself." The ancients were right.

Was enjoying this conversation but gave up after 15 minutes due to adverts.

I was so enamored, but I completely forgot myself, in their conversation I felt like I was in a movie experiencing everything they said it was absolutely amazing and breathtaking.

I just finished reading Bernardo's book Decoding Schopenhauser's Metaphysics which I found to be pabulum for the soul. I cannot wait for his book on Jung as I have all of his books thus far. I am confused though because when he talked with Gerry Woerlee recently he said he was not au fait with the NDE literature but he wrote about it in Brief Peeks. He also argued with Tim Freke in a very explosive interview as Tim is arguing that Consciousness is emergent and moving teleologically towards a singularity, Bernardo seems to be saying the same thing in the Schopenhauer book. I have been a big fan of Deepak for years his book The seven spiritual laws of success is a must-read and it helped me gain my biggest ever breakthrough. The debate between Idealist and Materialist is on par for me with the debate between those who are pushing the Germ theory of diseases as opposed to the Terrain theory of disease. I am firmly in the Terrain camp and more people need to get involved as we are living in dangerous times. Regarding Constants they do not exist as Rupert Sheldrake disclosed in his Ted talk which they banned, they fixed the Constants. This goes to show that they are making the data fit the theory which is bad science, in fact, it's worse it is fraudulent science.

Deepak, do you have knowledge if Bernardo feels sympathy for, and sustains Tom Campbell's work as well? I have never heard him mentioning Tom when discussing the nature of consciousness. He does seem to recognize the work of Don Hoffman.

Hold on... arguing? Why argue, or is that just a linguistic convention, Deepok? So, I am curious if Deepok knows of Tom Campbells' work. I know Tom is aware of Deepok. Tom is a physists who has "the theory" of everything that seems to wrap it all up, and it is consciousness that is the base... reality is like a virtual reality, etc. Excellent work, and it really should be studied by anyone seeking the truth, imho.

Archetypal systems such as astrology, which Jung appreciated, should be of interest to Bernardo. I'm willing to make a solar harmonic chart and analysis for Bernardo if a birthdate and ideally a birth time is provided. He was born in Rio de Janeiro but no other info via google.

If the only way to know Consciousness is thru transcendental experience, what is the value of talking about it? Doesn’t talk inflate the ego of the listener as well as the speaker? Listening to all these talks seems liking watching the speakers rearrange the books in my library.

If every thought changes the space time geometry then we should mind our thoughts and always be in gratitude. This is the simplest answer but let’s break it down. I would say any sort of cultural or societal conditioning is akin to brain damage because of false beliefs and assumptions causes a division within you that makes you feel you are separate from this universe. I would go as far as saying thinking (in a divided from the whole way) is mathematical but a paradigm shift (into a universal I’m not separate from the whole way of seeing and awareness$ is a quantum operating state of being but which still is dependent on capturing the quintessence of mathematical way of thinking. So to die to all information and knowledge in the deepest sense of your being and to be reborn from the ashes with a fresh unconditioned mind that can finally see those subtle nuances of our thought process that hides those assumptions and beliefs from us.

Is it that a zillion universes pop up for every individual observation, or is it a universe pops up for each and every observation made. So if I collapse the wave form by observing my couch, there is one collapse (one universe). If I am having big party and 100 people observe my couch there are 100 collapses, 100 couches and 100 universe. We see the same couch because there is one 'knowing', or shared consciousness. (At my party are 100 disassociated alters - it is ok, we can't help it).

Here is a way we can determine the truth of 'non-duality'.. People generally have a very poor understanding of what the word 'infinite' actually means.. This is not any kind of 'fault', but just that we have evolved within the confines of what appears to be a finite environment, and we thus try to look at things in finite ways, also justifying those 'finite' thoughts. When I first approached the 'problem' I had the same difficulties, so it takes our minds a lot of effort to reach another perspective of understanding, but it IS achievable.. Firstly, there cannot be more than one 'instance' of infinitude, otherwise a secondary 'thing' would render them both 'finite'. So we are describing a 'oneness'.. Also, it can have no 'beginning' nor 'ending' as these would also necessitate a secondary 'thing' (or the utter nonsense of a 'nothing'!), so we are describing 'eternity' when we apply 'time' concepts. Then, we have to admit that it can only be the one thing that interconnects all other 'things', and we deduce this to be 'Space', necessarily.. So, in terms of 'numbers', infinitude can only ever be 'one'.. ('Non-dual') All references to 'size' or 'direction' do not apply to the nature of infinitude, and thus have no relevance to our understanding of the true nature of existence. 'Measurement' has limitations.. When we point to any position in Space, we effectively create a 'beginning' to any subsequent forms of measurement, which only has relevance to the entity desiring to understand said 'measurement'. Measuring things does not make them a main-feature of the nature of reality, only a desire of 'measurement' from a purely Human perspective. 'Math' is another finite aspect, and so has limited usage. It helps us to describe specific positions and calculate certain desirable measurements to ourselves, so that we may use finite reference points, but it breaks down at the level of describing a necessarily infinite reality. Thus, as it is with our 'senses', we need various different kinds of understanding, all working in tandem with each other to produce the 'bigger picture', and we have philosophy and psychology, arts and 'mysticism'/intuition, among others, evolved for this task. However, because we live in an 'expert' driven society, all the 'senses/methods' are at war with each other, jostling for control, when the only true understanding occurs if we emulate nature itself, and work from a foundation of wholeness.. All methods of attempting to genuinely understand must eventually lead to success, as long as we can whittle each aspect down to that which is necessary. In fact, it may well be that it is a requirement of genuine understanding to approach the 'Allness' of existential questioning from as many necessary aspects as possible, all things existent necessarily converging in truth.. The emphasis should be on genuineness and necessity, not favouring one Human-invented method over another. When it comes to truth, the Human necessity is that we must 'be it to see it', for the very reason that we ARE 'it'.. The importance of the 'mystical' aspect Humanity carries within it, and so has access to, is not 'god' in its many guises, but the intrinsic aspect of infinitude.. 'God' has been our excuse for irresponsibility, leading to false 'authoritarianism', but the real 'enlightenment' occurs when we see how necessary infinitude is.. So 'god' has just been a vehicle, a carrier of genuine understanding, not the truth itself.. Within infinitude everything appears to be at the 'centre' of that which it finds detectable ('observable').. So, the moment you create the perspective of a 'centre', you become that centre..Here we can find the real problem with using 'mathematics' as a tool for understanding infinite nature. We have to firstly posit the 'points' to be 'measured' in order for the measurement to take place.. And this is why we end up inventing 'things' that do not exist in reality from mathematical constructs that do not describe the truth about nature.. We then require a 'scientific' understanding that explains the necessity for Infinitude to be the 'default state of being'.. "Commendation from NASA for research work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology on the Earth's atmosphere and the Moon's surface for navigation of the Apollo spacecraft to the Moon.. Dr. Milo Wolff has found the structure of the electron consisting of two spherical quantum waves, one moving radially outward and another moving radially inward. The center of the waves is the nominal location of the electron 'particle'. These waves extend infinitely, like charge force. All 'particle' waves mix and contribute to each other, thus all matter of the universe is interrelated by this intimate connection between the fundamental 'particles' and the universe. The natural laws are a direct consequence of this Wave Structure of Matter (WSM), thus WSM underlies all of science." spaceandmotion It takes our minds a lot of effort/energy to actually try to understand things in the real sense. We have to consider how much effort has already been used in trying to understand things which we know to be false! This 'conditioning' is necessary in order to communicate with whatever kind of 'culture' we are born into, and explains why the understanding of the nature of our reality has been difficult for us as a species, and been left to rare individuals such as 'mystics' and other forms of intuitive, in the past.. The question of infinitude does not rest on opinion, but with the genuine scientific method of deduction from necessity. We might well wonder why this is not something promoted most vigorously from within science itself, so that us 'laypersons' are able to understand things more clearly..? In fact, all people everywhere already have intuition of infinitude being the fundamental state of being, but it is masked beneath cultural traditions and erroneous assumptions. In an 'expanding' universe, what is it 'expanding' into, and is THAT infinite, or the next thing...ad infinitum. If you believe in 'god/s', it is their infinite aspect that gives them any credibility.. Even if you posit the completely insane idea of a 'nothingness', you still have to ask: Well, is THAT infinite? So you see, it is all really a question of how we interpret infinity, and if we are being genuinely 'scientific' about it we must use deduction from necessity as the de facto method.. On time.. 'Time' is really the motions of space, that we have conceptualised in finite ways in order to communicate ideas of relevant motion between ourselves. It does not exist as anything more than a human concept, but the motions of space DO exist, in the same way that Space exists, i.e. infinitely. When we apply the 'time' concept, we call this 'eternity'.. On Morality.. Morality can only come from the nature of existence, otherwise the human invented fantasy is inevitably dissolved in the hypocrisy it always was..

If all the living organisms in the universe die, will it still exist. As it exist as a product of observation becoz of all observers die than how will we know it ever existed?? Isn’t that the big-bang and evolution process took place so that it could reach a point of giving rise to humans so that the pure consciousness can be experienced

I mainly agree with Bernardo and I always learn something from him. He's a titan. But I think he is wrong when he characterizes materialism as claiming that we get experience from a description. He is correct that we start with experience and then use number as a way to describe and talk about it. But the materialist doesn't believe that the description itself is what is out there as the fundamental property of the world. The materialist uses number/quantity to talk ABOUT this material base of reality but the materialist does not conflate the linguistic use of number/quanity with what they suspect is at the base of reality. I am an idealist but it is strange that Bernardo consistently claims that materialists do not distinguish between linguistic activity and what they consider to be the bases of reality.

Both of them are the epic manifestation of pure subjectivism - less than snake oil sales person selling half baked absurd theory of consciousness!

A BRIEF SYNOPSIS OF “LIFE”: Everything, both perceptible and imperceptible - that is, any gross or subtle OBJECT within the material universe which can ever be perceived with the cognitive faculties, plus the SUBJECT (the observer of all phenomena) - is to what most persons generally refer when they use the term “God”, since they usually conceive of the Primeval Creator as being the Perfect Person, and “God” (capitalized) is a personal epithet of the Unconditioned Absolute. However, this anthropomorphized conception of The Absolute is a fictional character of divers mythologies. According to most every enlightened sage in the history of this planet, the Ultimate Reality is, far more logically, Absolutely NOTHING, or conversely, Absolutely EVERYTHING - otherwise called “The Tao”, “The Great Spirit”, “Brahman”, “Pure Consciousness”, “Eternal Awareness”, “Independent Existence”, “The Ground of All Being”, “Uncaused Nature”, “The Undifferentiated Substratum of Reality”, “The Unified Field”, et cetera - yet, as alluded to above, inaccurately referred to as a personal deity by the masses (e.g. “God”, “Allah”, “Yahweh”, “Bhagavan”, etc.). In other words, rather than the Supreme Truth being a separate, Blissful, Supra-Conscious Being (The Godhead Himself or The Goddess), Ultimate Reality is Eternal-Existence Limitless-Awareness Unconditional-Peace ITSELF. That which can be perceived, can not be perceiving! Because the Unmanifested Absolute is infinite creative potentiality, “it” actualizes as EVERYTHING, in the form of ephemeral, cyclical universes. In the case of our particular universe, we reside in a cosmos consisting of space-time, matter and energy, without, of course, neglecting the most fundamental dimension of existence (i.e. conscious awareness - although, “it” is, being the subject, by literal definition, non-existent). Just as a knife cannot cut itself, nor the mind comprehend itself, nor the eyes see themselves, The Absolute cannot know Itself (or at least objectively EXPERIENCE Itself), and so, has manifested this phenomenal universe within Itself for the purpose of experiencing Itself, particularly through the lives of self-aware beings, such as we sophisticated humans. Therefore, this world of duality is really just a play of consciousness within Consciousness, in the same way that a dream is a person's sleeping narrative set within the life-story of an “awakened” individual. APPARENTLY, this universe, composed of “mind and matter”, was created with the primal act (the so-called “Big Bang”), which started, supposedly, as a minute, slightly uneven ball of light, which in turn, was instigated, ultimately, by Extra-Temporal Supra-Consciousness. From that first deed, every motion or action that has ever occurred has been a direct (though, almost exclusively, an indirect) result of it. Just as all the extant energy in the universe was once contained within the inchoate singularity, Infinite Consciousness was NECESSARILY present at the beginning of the universe, and is in no way an epiphenomenon of a neural network. Discrete consciousness, on the other hand, is entirely dependent on the neurological faculty of individual animals (the more highly-evolved the species, the greater its cognitive abilities). “Sarvam khalvidam brahma” (a Sanskrit maxim from the “Chandogya Upanishad”, meaning “all this is indeed Brahman” or “everything is the Universal Self alone”). There is NAUGHT but Eternal Being, Conscious Awareness, Causeless Peace - and you are, quintessentially, that! This “Theory of Everything” can be more succinctly expressed by the mathematical equation: E=A͚ (Everything is Infinite Awareness). HUMANS are essentially this Eternally-Aware-Peace, acting through an extraordinarily-complex biological organism, comprised of the eight rudimentary elements - pseudo-ego (the assumed sense of self), intellect, mind, solids, liquids, gases, heat (fire), and ether (three-dimensional space). When one peers into a mirror, one doesn't normally mistake the reflected image to be one's real self, yet that is how we humans conventionally view our ever-mutating form. We are, rather, in a fundamental sense, that which witnesses all transitory appearances. Everything which can be presently perceived, both tangible and immaterial, including we human beings, is a culmination of that primary manifestation. That is the most accurate and rational explanation for “karma” - everything was preordained from the initial spark, and every action since has unfolded as it was predestined in ETERNITY, via an ever-forward-moving trajectory. The notion of retributive (“tit-for-tat”) karma is just that - an unverified notion. Likewise, the idea of a distinct, reincarnating “soul” or “spirit” is largely a fallacious belief. Whatever state in which we currently find ourselves, is the result of two factors - our genetic make-up at conception and our present-life conditioning (which may include mutating genetic code). Every choice ever made by every human and non-human animal was determined by those two factors ALONE. Therefore, free-will is purely illusory, despite what most believe. Chapter 11 insightfully demonstrates this truism. As a consequence of residing within this dualistic universe, we experience a lifelong series of fluctuating, transient pleasures and pains, which can take the form of physical, emotional, and/or financial pleasure or pain. Surprisingly to most, suffering and pain are NOT synonymous. Suffering is due to a false sense of personal agency - the belief that one is a separate, independent author of one’s thoughts, emotions, and deeds, and that, likewise, other persons are autonomous agents, with complete volition to act, think, and feel as they wish. Another way of stating the same concept is as follows: suffering is due to the intellect being unwilling to accept life as it manifests moment by moment. There are five SYMPTOMS of suffering, all of which are psychological in nature: 1. Guilt 2. Blame 3. Pride 4. Anxiety 5. Regrets about the past and expectations for the future These types of suffering are the result of not properly understanding what was explained above - that life is a series of happenings and NOT caused by the individual living beings. No living creature, including Homo sapiens, has personal free-will. There is only the Universal, Divine Will at play, acting through every body, to which William Shakespeare famously alluded when he scribed “All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” The human organism is essentially a biopsychological machine, comprised of the five gross material elements (which can be perceived with the five senses) and the three subtle material elements (the three levels of cognition, which consist of abstract thought objects), listed above. If I may Dr. Chopra, there's a British philosopher / journey man by the name of Paul Brunton that has invaluable insight here. I say this because he stayed at an ashram in Cambodia in the 1930s for a few months and transcribed an oral teaching of Vedanta that isn't in any other publication and has hardly any sanskrit in it. The book is The Wisdom of The Overself and I'm sure taking just a quick look at the table of contents page on the online PDF will arouse much curiosity. Anyway, loved this conversation and look forward to the next between you two.

You can have only a perceptual experience of fire. In order to really experience fire (not its properties like light, heat etc) you have to become fire itself. Is that possible? Yes, it is in yogic science. You can become one with it in deep intense yogic practice. There have been innumerable examples of yogic demonstration of that. But yogis do that not for Dharshanam (public display) but for Nidhashanam (giving the direct experience to a sincere seeker)

I'm pretty sure Kant said that even our inner life appears to us not as it is in itself, but as constituted by the Forms of Intuition. F.i. our Thoughts are arranged in Time, but time is a Form of Intuition and we cannot know if it exists in the thing in itself. I honestly find this hard to argue with, so I guess it's time for a deeper study of Schopenhauer.

The truth about the nature is reality must be accessible to everyone. Equipment and infrastructure is an abstraction from empirical observation. Science focused outward early on (The Christian worldview from which scientific thought emerged is also quite materialist) and skipped over the most obvious starting point.
