Deepcool FK120 fan noise

hint: This recording is not meant to be an accurate loudness measurement but rather a recording of the different noises a fan produces throughout the whole rpm range
This fan was supplied to me as part of an AK620 review unit by Deepcool and HWLuxx. During testing i noticed resonance noise at different rpm values. Both fans of my AK620 show this behaviour.
Watch for the resonance peaks at 250-260Hz and ~600Hz that will appear and disapear throughout the rpm range (0.5%/s ramp from 20-100% and back down to 20%).
Update: There are people reporting that their FK120 fans dont have any humming, so i dont think there is a 100% chance that FK120 fans do have humming, but there is a possility that they will have humming.

Good stuff. My AK620 also has those resonance peaks.

Just installed a AK620 WH and I get the same sounds from my setup. It makes the hum/resonance at around 117-1250 rpm range (55%-59% PWM). At 1380-1400 rpm (70% PWM), the fans will start to shake and make the cooler wobble slightly.

hi guys , thanks for the video , exactly the same problem on fan of my new deepcool LT720 , good AIO but I must replace the fan , The buzzing noise / resonance is unbearable after a while

Glad I'm not alone. Got myself an AK620, and every time the fans went 1200 RPM the blades would shake/vibrate so much I could feel it on my desk . Since it was a new build waited a bit and just bought some Noctua fans, just didnt want to risk so I got the best I guess. Happy with the coller but these fans are kinda bad from my experience.

These are the fans that come standard with the LS720 AIO. Got mine a month ago. The buzzing noise / resonance is unbearable after a while, i have 2 fans doing this, only 1 does not and is perfectly silent. Deepcool support plays dumb... but i'm pretty sure they know very well they have a big problem here so they do their maximum to complicate the process for fans exchange ! Any Fan recommandation for replacing these with, i saw you mention P12 A(RGB) in the other video ? Because i'm pretty happy with the LS720, it's just that noise driving me nuts now. Didn't had any problems with my CASTLE 360EX A-RGB and the CF120 fans.
@busterscrugs
@busterscrugs Год назад
I've been in contact with DeepCool, they actually sent me this video. Per the representative's exact words, "...the noise wouldn't actually be due to a manufacturing defect. We've gotten back with our design team and they've explained to us that the FK120 fans that come with the AK620 are known to occasionally produce a humming noise, which can become more apparent at higher RPMs." Crazy that they sell these premium products to customers despite knowing the fans are problematic.

Yes i have recommended the P12 (A)RGB as an RGB replacement for the FC120 in the comments of my LS720 recording. The P12s (A)RGB still do have humming but its way more decent than on either the FC120 or FK120. I have upladed a recording of a P12 (A)RGB, which should show the worst case you can expect. I have used the P12 (A)RGB on my LS720 for over a month (until i had to change it for anther cooler :D ) and was generally happy both in terms of noise and temperatures. If you dont care about RGB and are willing to spend more money on fans, then the ultimate fan you could get for the LS or LT270 would be the Noctua NF-A12x25. Other than its price i did not find anything worth criticizing on the A12s.

@@TheFlow2000 Thank you for the feedback, appreciated. I got my hands on 3 x T30's and waiting on them to test out. There where less expensive than getting 3 noctuas (had noctuas on all my previous air builds) I was about to pull the trigger on the artic 420 rad but it doesn't fit the lian li medium sadly.
@TheFlow2000
@TheFlow2000 Год назад
I did not even think about them but the T30s should be an excellent choice as well (especially if you can get them cheaper than the A12s). In a nutshell they should be slightly better performing A12x25s due to the additional 5mm in thickness.

Oof. Love my AK620 performance and appearance but these resonating sounds have been driving me insane. At certain RPMs between 1100-1300 the resonating is so loud that I can hear it rooms away and only one of my 2 fans is effected by this flaw. I have undervolted my CPU, so I can usually run the CPU fans at low RPMs but, even at the lowest fan speeds the resonating is pretty bad and much louder than any other fan or part in my PC.
@TheFlow2000
@TheFlow2000 Год назад
Other than the humming fans the AK620 is a really good cooler. Very good colling performance (also per noise, when the fans are not humming), good motherboad and case compatibilty and it also looks really good (although that might be very subjective). By switching out the fans you can get rid of the humming but also loose a bit of the looks of the cooler.

@TheFlow2000
@TheFlow2000 6 месяцев назад
The AG620 has different fans, which remind me of a slightly downgraded FC120, but they could be even more different. I have no information if the fans used on the AG coolers do have the same issue.
@jeen0351
@jeen0351 Год назад
same here, on ak 620 zero dark, so should have one of the latest revisions. I even tested it outside the case using a potentiometer to rule out anything else and that was it making that annoying reverb, inside the case it resonates even worse
@TheFlow2000
@TheFlow2000 Год назад
So with the newer cooler versions it is still a lottery if you get fans with or without humming. I hope Deepcool fixes that issue with their next generation of fans. I have tried the same but with the motherboard fanheader set to dc mode (which is essentially the same as using a potentiometer) and the humming was still there.

Just out of curiosity, which version of the PA 120 did you buy? And the PA does not have any humming issues? I have some TL-C12C fans here which should be the ones the PA 120 SE uses and they have some very light humming. Compared to the FK120 it should be a non issue though. I am temporarily using my AK620 with two A12x25 (which should be on of the most expensive "fixes" for the AK620 i can think of :D ) and with those fans its amazingly good.

I have an ls720. It makes funky noises. I tested several speeds. 40% doesn't make it. And 70% plus doesn't. So I set it to 40% when below 75c. And 70% at 75c and 80% at 80c and 100% at 90c. Rarely breaks 70c I also have no fan curve. It's fan steps. Lol.

Does anyone get a rattling noise on the AK620? Almost sounds like a piece of wood stuck in a bicycle wheel spoke. Or "turbo croaking" of a frog. It's immensely annoying and I have tried checking everything to ensure nothing was loose or anything.
@TheFlow2000
@TheFlow2000 21 день назад
Since the fans are the only moving part capable of producing rattlign noises it must be one of the fans. Do the fan cables (or any other cable or pc component) touch the fan blades? Does that noise disappear if you disconnect one of the fans? I would try to identify which of the fans is causing these noises and getting it replaced if your AK620 ist still covered by waranty.

@@TheFlow2000 No, I made sure to thoroughly manage my cables and move them away and organized. I will try to disconnect a fan to see what happens. Thanks.

Is it quieter than the Arctic p12 pwm?
@TheFlow2000
@TheFlow2000 Год назад
The FK120 i recorded is for sure louder than the Arctic P12 rev.2 i recorded. If it is also louder than a P12 rev.1 i didnt really bother to find out, since both have humming that makes them unbearble to me. I would not recommend using either an FK120 with humming or a P12 with humming, if humming fans are an issue for you. I could record both the FK120 and and a humming P12 rev.1 with as similar setup as possible so you can decide yourself which of the two fans is less annoying.

@TheFlow2000 9 месяцев назад
Yes and no. For the P12 that depends entirely on the Revision you have. I have had five P12 that were marked as Rev.2 (see the video i uploaded) and none of them had any humming at all and i have five unmarked P12 (so possibly Rev.0) here of which every single fan has humming.

I don't think the fan should be free to move on the table!
@TheFlow2000
@TheFlow2000 10 месяцев назад
I am with you on that, if just having the fan sitting on the desk like that would introduce additional noises that present not there, if the fan were mounted to a case or a heatsink/radiator. But since that is not the case i think it is perfectly fine to have the fan sitting on my desk like that for showcasing any possible unwanted noises a fan might produce, if they are present in the expected usecases as well. For scientific and accurate (loudness) measurements i would have have to mount the fans fully decoupled, but since it is not my goal to provide those i dont see any issue in that as well.

Annoying low frequency noise in low speed, even noticeable in high speed... It's like the fan is vibrating front and back when it's working, hitting the stick and make the noise.
@TheFlow2000
@TheFlow2000 Год назад
Yes, you can actually feel the vibrations when the fan is running at an rpm where it makes that noise. Although the fan blades are not vibrating enough to hit the spokes. That would produce another type of noise and the frequency of that would change with the fan rpm, and the two present humming frequencys stay around the same throughout the rpm range.
