The issue is not about charging or not charging . The problem is the fact that we are not our brothers keeper. If you invite a music minister to a programme., you have to consider his or her expenditure. You have to sit down and discuss the cost of him being there. Example if he is bringing too many back singers and that will increase the cost, you suggest some of your choir singers. They have bills to pay so you have to sit down and talk sincerely and not spiritual manipulation. If we sincerely love each other , this issue will not arise because both side will feel the burden of the other. The question is ARE WE OUR BROTHERS KEEPER.?

I think as a Christian the music ministers should be paid as a way of honouring the gift of God in their lives,n encourage them to continue with God's work,n also they need to take care of their families n personal bills..........i agree .....the problem is when they start quoting the amount n placing demands that cant be met by the people who invited them.Inside the gift,God will make provision i believe that provision includes financial aid in a Godly manner.

A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men (Prov 18:16) . One thing is concrete on this issue of charging or not charging: both collect money. You cannot deflate that fact. He who charges put a value to it and he/she who does not leave the space open for those that invite them to value the divine gift in them. Even if Bro Nath does not charge he gets paid as appreciation by those that invites him. The same for Victoria. I also wondered the pain in Michael Orokpo's voice when he talks about others on this subject. As George would say 'attention is currency', I think he loves to follow the trend. To expand this topic, I wont be shocked to say that gospel dramatists should not charge to appear in gospel movies sing gospel singers should not put a prize on their skill. George dont you think that is another angle? Like gospel books should be free e.g daily devotionals, magazines, books, and Christian memorabilias should be free. Kindly think about it George. We have churches that sells books every month, and every year. In fact, we have companies producing holy and sacred materials such as communion. Should that be free as well? How would they cater for themselves. I believe people should be left to do what they believe will help their ministry so long it is not a sin and does not contradict the stance of the scriptures. You cannot force it on them. God bless His church in Nigeria, Africa and worldwide.

My question is, "why are people so comfortable buying secular artists tickets for hundreds and thousands of Naira or Dollars, but when it comes to paying Gospel artists then it becomes a problem?" How are we supposed to support them?

I honestly think whatever is happening in the music ministry is a reflection of what's happening with the pulpit or pastoral ministry. Words are cheap but truth be told how many trending pastors or gospel artists will go to small churches on a regular where they know they're certainly not getting any significant honorarium if they get at all. Sometimes honorarium from big churches may even be higher than supposed charges!!!!!! Moderation is 🗝️. More often than not , those not charging have large church base abinitio. And therefore those not charging are not necessarily more spiritual than those who do. Let everyone abide in their individual calling and the dictates therein.

Hmnn. What really makes the difference between the decision to charge a fee or not charge a fee is the personal understanding the music minister has of their ministry's covenant with God. A music minister can fund their ministry adequately , pay for studio sessions, pay music directors etc uf they have a covenant understanding that God shall provide all their needs if they believe him for it. While planning my wedding I came into the understanding of having God as your source, and not your family, salary or hustle. We expected to be helped by people, but we got different than we thought. We had been praying but still waited and waited. It wasn't until we fully relied on God in these last months that God opened doors of contracts for my fiancé and myself. I urge music minister, grow in your relationship with God, so you can trust God to take care of you and your career growth without you selling tickets and charging a fee to minister.

My thought is, we have gospel artist and gospel minister. Artist will charge his audience to perform their music. Minister will bless, minister and admonish his audience through thier music.

Trust the God who called you to provide for you...except if you are an entertainer/performer(which many of them have become...wanting to be known like the secular ones, wanting to pull a crowd) Lord, help your church.

I may be Annoited and called to serve through music but I need transport to come to your church. My support team should also be facilitated. The church collects offertory and some of it should help in such instances. It’s very okay to charge money as a gospel music minister for better quality and facilitation

@@Michael75557Do you realize instrumentalists, their staff and other specialized experts (e.g. special drums e.g. gangan, Omele etc) have to be paid?? Pastors need to chill and work out a balance with said gospel artists. They know very well that these artists brings crowds (= money) to their programs. They are just being disingenuous because now they have to share the earnings with a facilitator i.e. gospel artist. They want to do business but not by principles of business. Only in Africa.

What I realised is the following: There is a difference between music ministers and music artists While the music ministers Minister from a place of consecration with God, the artists see ministration as a means of showcasing their gifts I have been a musician playing for churches and some top gospel artists in the past 20 years. During ministrations (even in our local church where there are different worship singers) you can spot the difference between the ministers and artists. For example: while the artist often backs the congregation during ministration in a bid to obtain perfection from his backup, the minister‘s full attention is on his congregation and tends to care less about his backups -atleast for the moment. Instrumentalists know this! This is just one of many examples the congregation doesn’t necessarily see. We see these things! Cheers!

If there are pastors who expect and receive monetary honoration why do they judge the gospel artists who charges? When they invite well known preachers to preach at their churches, don't they negotiate the price? What is the reason to invite them if not to attract a crowd? They may believe God for their livelihood but God works through a person who supply through tithes and offerings and through other special offerings. Let them judge themselves first before judging others.

I'm not a fan of Nigerian Gospel artistes BUT I do agree with what the late Sam Okposo as he was specific to his concerts. A Gospel artiste should charge for their concerts. (However, when a Gospel artiste gets into charging for tables we should know that things like money laundering has entered the equation.) What is problematic is when they do so for church appearances. BUT like Victoria Orenze said, those who invite artistes that charge should pay up because they know what they want by inviting such.

I respect the submission of the late Sammy Okposo, but the problem I have with his analogy is that he's comparing the processes involved in the creation of music between the worldly musician and a Divinely consecrated musician. You cannot make that comparison, because while the worldly musician operates independently from God, the music minister is under the authority of God, so while the worldly music artistes have no choice but to fend for themselves, the music minister of the gospel is taken care of by God Himself. If God really called and sent you, He Himself will make a way for you. What you need will be provided. My submission is, there is nothing wrong with trying to make money out of your music, but not at the detriment and desecration of the call of God upon your life, and not in comparison to the worldly pattern.

If these Pastors have a habit of supporting/appreciating financially, the Music ministers the same was Pastors get honorariums, I personally don't think these ministers will put pricetags on their service.

Toh, nobody should pay for anything that comes from the church because it's God's gift. Even the books that are published by our beloved spiritual leaders should be given for free. Even the bible perhaps sometimes given out for free, the booksellers should stop charging to give them out. Full time pastors should stop receiving salaries and Men of God should get a job outside their ministries and never feed from the tithes and offerings from the altar. Pastors write books and sell them. Why? How can it be wrong then for gospel artists to charge for singing live or selling their albums ? How will earn their living ? Through charity?

That's 2 different things.. Of gospel musicians produce albums we will buy.. We will stream.. We will see their RU-vid videos and they will make money Pastors sell their books and we buy..but putting money first before u come is what he is against

We are different from the world system, should we pay praise and worship teams because they bring the glory of God down to lead people to the presences?! People should know that we are different sacrifice is rewarded by God charging money brings to the front wolves among sheep skin. Not tried and tested. God will back up what is his not men. Your platform is backed up by God else views can drop any minute are you the only one investing in music? Let God back you up people. Apostle Paul asks everyone to work while They minister.

You can't be a good musician without spending time and money in bulk to study and train. So money is a must but if you can't afford it you can negotiate a small amount and they will come. Look, even the pastors and so called apostles are more greedy than Nigerian politicians. Musicians collect anything you give them, if you can't afford to hire musicians, take the free ones because there are instrumentalists and musicians that won't charge a Kobo but be ready for poor music. Good music will cost you money to learn and to hire a professional.

I think it’s wrong to say music minister who sings will soon fizzle out of a generation And God will reject them because you are not meant to judge Preach, teach but don’t judge Whenever a music minister put up a gathering of musicians to rehearse the team are expecting money or do you think they just go out to start singing Then if that is the case pastors should use their personal money to run church I have a friend who is a gospel minister I marvel at the amount she put into her music and yet no one knows her It isn’t easy please judge not. This is hypocrisy. ALL pastors are given honourarium without even asking for it. Everyone knows to give the pastor something after preaching. This is not the case for music ministers. How do they expect these people to eat? Are they expecting God to come down from heaven and give them money? Obviously, there are some music ministers that are abusing this and going overboard. My 2 cents is that just as pastors receive honourarium, music ministers should also be given honourarium. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. They are all ministers. Let’s not open the chapter of the ones that own private jets 😅 oops!

Sami should at least come and tell what his situation is now after leaving the earth. Any pastor minister who charge money to minister unto God's people is in hellish error. God gave us gifts for free, we are to give out for free. No trading of spiritual gifts, within the body of christ. The love of money has blinded these guys.

Abi there's no office called music minister in the bible. The so called music minister is just an artist like all other artists, the only difference is that they sing gospel. The problem with the church is that we give artists an office and then try to dictate what they've been doing for decades. That's the craziness of the church. This people run businesses, so if you expect them to allocate their time for you, you must pay for that! if you don't want to pay then don't invite them. Moreover pastors charge money for everything, so they have no moral right to rebuke those who do the very thing they do. Well at least musicians don't lie about God to make money.

Also, I thought she was referring to you too...when she said the "world". But also... You ain't the only one who has reacted to the trend. These pastors have serious audacity. They need to leave the altar, if they have nothing else to teach. Have they not been performing themselves? now they’re jealous that these young music ministers are about to become richer than them. They’re lying. If they can’t afford any musician, they shouldn’t invite them na. Who told them that when God gives one a gift one can’t make money from it? Do you know how much some cardiologists bill for one surgery? Let every man or woman follow his/her spirit abeg.
