Indian cinema legend Deepti Naval speaks about Goldfish, exploring a dementia-suffering role, mental health awareness through cinema, shift of film styles since pioneering parallel cinema and more.
Goldfish, which first premiered at Busan, is set for a theatrical release. In the film, Anamika, a half-Indian half-English woman, returns home to the U.K. to deal with her mother’s dementia and the scars of her childhood. The cast includes Kalki Koechlin (“Sacred Games”), Gordon Warnecke (“Venus”), Rajit Kapur (“Rocket Boys”) and Bharti Patel (“The Undeclared War”). Directed by Pushan Kripalani.
Deepti Naval’s major contribution has been in the area of art cinema, winning critical acclaim for her sensitive and 'close to life' characters that emphasized the changing roles of women in India. She is the first Indian-American actress to make her debut in the Hindi film industry. Known for roles in classics like Chashme Buddoor, Angoor as well as contemporary international movies like Lion and The Boy With The Topknot.
