Grant, great comments... thanks for sharing. How many acres is the property? Bob

How do you know how many does you need to take each year? I only have 25 acres in WI.

Study about a mile in each direction and see if there's enough quality forage year round (late summer and late winter is when food is often most limited for a deer). Do the neighbors harvest many does?

Grant, will you guys do a video to educate us on liquid lime. I have heard that Deer GRO PLOT start for food plots, is not an effective liming alternative. It's calcium chloride, which is much different from calcium carbonate, which is what lime is. Calcium chloride is used on highways before snowstorms, and in tires as it doesn't freeze. I've never seen brown lime.. I feel you speak the truth as a Christian, and I feel many people are being tricked. Can you do a video explaining the differences and or pros an cons of calcium chloride and calcium carbonate so we can hear the Truth.
@GrowingDeerTV

There are many liquid lime products and I certainly don't know all of them. All of the research I've read shows that it's not a good investment. Calcium is heavy and bulky. A few gallons is going to change the pH is an acre or so.

I saw a great video on this topic earlier and he pretty much broke it down to lime being crushed to a small enough size to be faster acting and last very short time and higher size partial takes way longer but last way longer, no getting around the volume issues in food plots, liquid is for a quick shot for a quick fix, won't last longer than the plant life!

🗣️you said that you had CWD deer 🦌 meat 🥩 in the freezer. WHAT did you do with the meat ? 🤔 Toss it or eat it ?? 🧐. 🤠🇺🇸

The State wildlife agency took it so it could be disposed of properly - not put on the landscape to potentially be another point of spreading the disease.

Thoughts on buckwheat in the small plots?
@jordanhudson5075
@jordanhudson5075 2 месяца назад
Whats your reasoning for planting the buckwheat? As what food? Or cover crop until you plant ?
@iamtheshaker
@iamtheshaker 2 месяца назад
@@jordanhudson5075 Both, I'd think it would be less desirable food than the beans in the large plot and work well as a summer crop which should be easy to crimp

It can be over browsed or a great crop. I always prefer the many benefits of blends!

Are you referring to Sericea? Google Sericea and see if that's it. It's a very invasive species.

I think Oklahoma has decided to reduce the amount of nonresident hunters with their significant price increase this year.
@GrowingDeerTV
@GrowingDeerTV 2 месяца назад
Seems like that's about in line with several other states. Inflation is impacting everything - unfortunately.
@Range-X
@Range-X 2 месяца назад
They have. There are a disproportionate amount of non-resident hunters that come here because of the amount of public and the cheap tags/license. I don’t think it’ll make a giant difference but it’s a step in the right direction. I really wish they’d go to a 1 buck rule
@CATCHAHAWG
@CATCHAHAWG 2 месяца назад
@@Range-X I already know a few hunters that won’t be returning to Oklahoma due to the increase so it’s definitely working. Unfortunately government likes to spend money and eventually will raise resident tags as well to make up for the difference. Colorado is doing the same thing with elk tags. Won’t be long before the working man won’t be able to enjoy hunting or fishing.
@Range-X
@Range-X 2 месяца назад
@@CATCHAHAWG Yeah I can’t see much they’ve done with the money as is. They’ve put less and less into public land habitat improvement over the last several years. Dried up old food plots and dead access roads. They don’t do a very good job with poachers either. Instead they come after people who buy tags 30 minutes after they shoot a deer. I’m lucky enough to have some private access otherwise I’d strongly consider fishing during hunting season lol

The genetic management approach to CWD is childish at best, and exacerbates the problem at worst. Leave this challenge to the best science available, and it’s NOT that.
