A week before the big freeze, I camped at the Steele Campgrounds at Lake Whitney. Had a great time. Really enjoyed it. In the early morning i had to exit my sleeping bag to traverse up to the restroom facilities. Unzipped my tent flap, turned the corner and had the biggest shock of my life. There in the darkness with my tiny flashlight were thousands, it seemed to be glowing eyes staring back at me. In the big big center circle of the camp drive, were hundreds of deer. No exaggeration ... WOW! A whole herd of deer , I have never seen so many deer at one encounter. It made the chill of the cold night instantly be forgotten. who needs a little buddy propane heater after such an experience.

@@TheElementWild I’ve scouted the second unit y’all did and shot pigs on it in the summer, but once October rolls around it’s so packed that it’s almost impossible to find a spot to hunt. There’s lots of deer, I’ve gotten pictures of them and I’ve seen them while scouting, but when it’s time 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s nice how descriptive you guys are about exactly where everything is. Should take the route of The Hunting Public and be more respectful of local hunters. I respect that you need to make content, but you could probably do this in a better way.

Is this lake Whitney corps area where yall kill most of your Texas public land deer? I've been wanting to get into that type of country where most of yalls Texas vids are. It's not piney woods where I am but also not south or west texas
@preston1384
@preston1384 4 года назад
Been scouting Sam Houston and I swear most deer I find sit on the fence line between public and private next to the Ag and open spaces. Not to many open spaces and obviously no Ag in Sam Houston... Looks like I'm gonna be a fence sitter. Its the only edge I find! Deer also seem to be pretty much nocturnal even in summer. A ton of pressure there every year. Y'all think best move then is to hunt their bedding?
@TheElementWild
@TheElementWild 4 года назад
Yeah man it can be tough in that big woods setting! I like to say that the deer have to be somewhere LOL. They are somewhere in the woods during daylight, just have to find where that is. Usually that is bedding, but that’s not easy to find in East Texas. Definitely good thoughts on your end there! Maybe also look for a place where they can bed and browse during the day like clear cuts or honeysuckle thickets.
@preston1384
@preston1384 4 года назад
@@TheElementWild Its definitely a grind! Do y'all know laws regarding hunting next to private here in texas? Do I have be certain yardage away from their fence line?
@TheElementWild
@TheElementWild 4 года назад
I think that’s going to vary from property to property, but there are laws restricting it for sure! Best to check with the GW or the booklet. We don’t do legal advice haha!

Depends on the land and rules for such. Just make sure you read them first or call your game warden.

What trail cameras would y’all recommend for Texas public land I want to get 2 or three but need them to be budget friendly
@TheElementWild
@TheElementWild 3 года назад
Honestly we can’t really recommend cheap trail cams. They are gonna fail plain and simple and they also vary year to year and model to model quite largely.

Good content showing how to read a map. Could you guys do this without being so specific about where you are at. Now people can search for this corp project from now to eternity and find this exact spot. You could probably remove some detail and at least make people do some leg work on their own to figure out where you are. Just a thought, thanks y'all.
@TheElementWild
@TheElementWild 3 года назад
Wayne Carlisle The point is to really help people see how we read a map. Not to have them go to a spot which was sent to us by a podcast listener to use in this btw. We’re trying to help people with this project. Success is better for hunters than people trying hunting for a year and quitting bc they nobody would help them. I appreciate your thoughts and compliments so I hope you don’t take this offensively. Just wanted you to know we’ve thought long and hard about how to produce this project. Have a great SZN!
