Hey Andrew I bow hunt in Illinois for 12 years now and have had similar experience’s. A few things I learned and made changes to are I practice shooting from a tree at about the same height I’ll be hunting. Shooting from the ground and at elevated heights makes a big difference on how you arrow goes through the animal. Also there is a good chance that deer is still alive. A lot of times a fatally wounded deer will run off and lay down and if you end up pushing it you will see large blood spot on the ground and in the video I know you guys covered a lot of ground that night following blood spots but never heard anything mentioned and blood puddles. Deer are tough and amazing animals and aren’t that easily killed with an arrow; it almost takes a perfect shot to put one on the ground. But after watching your video twice seeing the hit you put on it and the way it took off I think there’s a chance it’s still alive. Just my thought

Same thing happened to me 2 years ago. Shot a massive-bodied buck (my first buck) and he ran about 30 yards and tried to run up a hill then fell over. I waited about 30 min to an hour to get out of the stand and jumped him back up. He ran about halfway up the hill and fell over again so I waited a little while after that. He ended up jumping back up as soon as I started walking. I will forever regret not just staying in the stand longer and backing out that night. The last pile of blood I had was similar to yours - just stopped where he stood before he fell over and nothing else was found after. But these experiences help you learn and improve. Hunting is a tough sport and those deer are so tough. It wouldn't be as much of a challenge if we got it every time. Can't wait for more hunting videos, and keep up the good work Flair!

Flair, with a liver shot you have to wait a minimum of 6 hours. You need to back out right away and not even check the arrow. 9 times outta 10 they will bed within 200 yards of the shot with a liver shot. The blood “clotting” may have been guts plugging the exit hole which has happened to me. Bubbles don’t always mean lung, you’ll notice the amount of frothy bubbles in a lung shot vs a liver shot.

I got humbled really quick by losing her. It killed me mentally knowing I did that to her. NOW, with all that being said.. I think I’m ready to try again this season. Don't give up, that's just part of hunting and half of it sucks ass like wasting a deer. You can be the beat shot in a range or at a target but in a tree with weather and a live target that also has a say in the outcome then that's just what's called hunting and just need to learn what lessons you can where you went wrong. Losing a buck is so much worse

If you hunt long enough, you will lose deer. It's always best to wait a few hours before tracking unless you see the deer drop. It is hard to wait in the moment when you are excited or unsure about your shot, especially if you see a blood trail right away.

Two options for finding it would be 1, put up your drone or 2 get Lucy to track it. Also, definitely get paper tuned and your sight adjusted properly. But yeah, I agree with the others that you need more practice and don't take a shot after you're muscles are fatigued like that. Make a check in a day for birds. She might not be salvageable for food but you're going to know.

Blood vessels are less vascular in the back of the lungs so even though that looks like a bunch of blood you didn’t completely deflate her lungs which causes that cardiovascular shock that kills the deer so fast. That last pool of blood is where she prolly bedded or stood for a while and would have died but I think y’all bumped her. When in doubt back out give her 6 hours minimum and they’re usually dead and not stiff

@chriscanterbury8647
@chriscanterbury8647 10 месяцев назад
They are still alive most of that time too and it's also night time and cooler out. It's a gamble but you can guarantee you'll lose the whole deer if you bump it while it's adrenaline is going, need them to get sleepy for a minute and doze off and never get back up. 2 hours for a bad shot is not nearly enough, I've done this same exact thing thought 2 hours would be good, she lived 2 days atleast. If I waited until the morning she would have been dead 250 yards away

I bet you practice and don't call a 8 inch group at 35 good enough. That's a hard issue to overlook. Nobody is perfect but when he's got thousands of potentially new bow hunters viewing it puts some added responsibility on his shoulders to shoot better.
@Topshelfpoison
@Topshelfpoison 10 месяцев назад
@@williamwhite1997 I also don’t just assume flair hasn’t been shooting because he hasn’t posted hours of footage of him practicing. What I saw was a real life look at how it can go no matter how much practice you put in. He is the only one that knows if he truly has been practicing enough. If you watch the video you’ll see the problem was his hold for 2 mins and deciding to take a bad shot. It was a fast decision he says himself was bad, I bet you wouldn’t have the balls to post a bad shot like him. I think there is more honor in that. Shit Ted Nugent himself has even had bad bow placement shots.
@williamwhite1997
@williamwhite1997 10 месяцев назад
@@Topshelfpoison I watched the video and I saw him question if his sight was off, while all his shots pushed right at 15y and then way rightbat 35y with an up and down 8 inch group. That's not satisfactory. Look the hold was long there's added pressure for him to make the shot, I understand all that, but he's got added responsibility with so many inexperienced bow hunters watching. #1 be confident in your equipment #2 practice to a high standard. #3 accept that mistakes still happen but the chances decrease if #1 & #2 or followed.

Appreciate the honest video. It's happened to all bowhunters. Not ragging on you or being narcissistic, but in the video at least, I didn't see enough blood to go after her knowing where the shot went. We all get over optimistic in those situations, though. Another hour or so and she would have been on top of that pile of blood where she laid down. On sub-par shots, go home and look at the footage, not at the stand. It'll force you to give her more time. You'll get the next one. Good video.

Archery starts for me next month. Got a teal hunt this Saturday (opening day) and it’s looking good. I had a buck make the same blood trail on me before. Was found dead about 30-40 yards from the last blood spot, by DNR. Would have been my first deer taken with a bow.

Bow creeped forward before you shot. With the elite bows, sometimes lowering the letoff will help that. You don't want to much letoff it will allow you to hold the bow much longer but the downside is that when your at full draw and get lazy with your shot that can cause you to creep forward. Just a little tip keep up the amazing videos man

It was 100% a liver/gut shot. When she was walking away she had a hunched back which is an immediate sign of liver/gut hit. In that scenario it is best to take a picture of the arrow, and leave in the complete opposite direction, and let her lay for at least 4-6 hours. Liver shots alway bleed well to start, then eventually go down to small specks, after it clots. Based on the looks of how fresh the puddle was where she was standing, means she was there when you started tracking, and took off sprinting when you headed her direction. She probably would have bedded up there had you backed out. But it happens to all of us, it sucks, but you honored her by giving it your best shot to find her. Keep your head up, keep practicing, and capitalize on that next opportunity! Love watching your videos man! Hard work, works!

Flair we got to you put a bow target in your concrete room and just put like thick blankets behind your target so ur arrow won’t hit the concrete and you could have a indoor bow range and not have to worry about the wind because on camera that’s atleast 40 yards it looks like so it would be prefect
